At this moment, the Tyrants were not facing ordinary survivors or a regular army, but the most elite "Specialist" special operations squad within Black Watch.
"Time for your medicine, big guys!"
Expert No. 1 laughed maniacally as he pulled the trigger, the rotary grenade launcher in his hand letting out a death-like roar.
"Thump, thump, thump, thump!" Six rounds of special armor-piercing high-explosive grenades were all poured out in less than two seconds, accurately covering the two Tyrants charging at the front.
Boom—!!!
The violent sound of explosions echoed within the enclosed control room, as flames swallowed everything.
Simultaneously, the special assault rifles in the hands of Specialist 2 and Specialist 6 spat out long tongues of fire. They were using Black Watch's special depleted uranium armor-piercing rounds; these bullets could even penetrate tank armor, let alone the Tyrants' so-called "biological armor," which was exactly what Black Watch had prepared for these creatures.
Bullets poured onto the Tyrants like a rainstorm, shredding their flesh and blood, turning their gray trench coats into tattered rags in an instant.
On Kross's side, the multi-functional launcher on his left arm armor instantly deployed, its dark micro-launch ports glinting with a lethal cold light under the tactical lamps.
Puff! Puff! Puff!
Three slight but fatal pneumatic launch sounds rang out. Three special "Driller" high-explosive micro-grenades, trailing tail flames nearly invisible to the naked eye, shot accurately into the wide-open, roaring mouth of a Tyrant in a triangular formation.
An extremely muffled explosion detonated inside the Tyrant's body.
The battle lasted for less than three minutes.
The four seemingly invincible Tyrants had now become four piles of smoldering black corpses. One of them had half its head blown away by Expert No. 1's grenade.
As the smoke cleared, besides the shell casings and flesh covering the ground, only the pungent smell of gunpowder lingered in the air.
Specialist 2 kicked a severed Tyrant arm that was still twitching on the ground: "I thought they could fight, but that's it?"
Kross scanned the battlefield, and after confirming total annihilation, he pressed his communicator: "Command, this is Cross. Threat eliminated, target escaped. Support units can move in to take over."
...
Half an hour later, at the perimeter of the research institute.
The roar of propellers broke the silence of the deep mountains. Several Black Watch gunships slowly landed on the open ground outside the institute, kicking up a gale.
The cabin doors opened, and fully armed Black Watch support troops quickly fanned out, establishing a perimeter. Following closely behind were several Gentek scientists in fully enclosed biohazard suits, carrying various precision instruments as they hurried into the laboratory now fully controlled by Cross's squad under military escort.
Expert No. 3 and 4 stood at the entrance, handing over to the Commander of the newly arrived support unit.
"The inside has been cleared," Expert No. 3 saluted. "But be careful, there's shredded meat everywhere, don't slip."
...
Meanwhile, at the F University Fortress - Intelligence Department.
On the massive tactical screen, the entire battle process of Cross and his squad was being replayed. Information and physiological data changes for every Special Infected were recorded in detail by the intelligence staff.
Dozens of intelligence analysts were working intensely, the sound of keyboard clicks rising and falling.
Lin Xuan stood before the large screen, arms crossed, his gaze profound.
He watched the screen, but there wasn't much of a stir in his heart. Over these days, with the system's enhancements, his various attributes—especially Intelligence and Perception—were rising rapidly. The once ordinary Lin Xuan was gradually disappearing, replaced by an existence more like a "Commander".
He could feel himself drifting further away from his past self. This was a metamorphosis of his thought patterns.
Just then, a series of pleasant system notification tones rang in his mind:
[Ding, killed Charlie (High-Intelligence Hybrid), reward: 1,000 Biomass]
[Ding, killed Tyrant x4, reward: 2,000 Biomass]
[Ding, killed Adult Licker x12, reward: 1,200 Biomass]
[Ding, killed Bloody Cross Fanatic x80, reward: 80 Biomass]
Lin Xuan looked at the constantly ticking number on the system panel—26,630.
This was a massive number, enough to support a large-scale campaign.
His gaze moved from the screen to the giant map of F City on the wall.
"Biomass is sufficient," Lin Xuan muttered to himself, his finger sliding slowly across the map, finally stopping at one location—F City Airport.
Although Black Watch currently had powerful ground fire with tanks and multiple rocket launchers, its air power remained a weakness. Those few helicopters were decent, but facing potential future unknowns, he needed air superiority. He needed gunships, fighters, and even bombers.
The prerequisite for all of this was that he must possess a base capable of taking off and landing these giants.
"We need an airport."
Lin Xuan turned around and gave the order to his adjutant, Ling Jianqing: "Notify all high-ranking Commanders. We have an operational meeting in half an hour. Target: Seize F City International Airport."
