The Fox and the Crocodile
Once upon a time, a foolish crocodile and a clever fox lived near a river. The crocodile was strong but not very intelligent, while the fox was very clever. One day, they decided to farm together and share whatever crops they grew.
Potato Farming
First, they planted potatoes. The crocodile did not know that potatoes grow under the ground. He thought that potatoes grow on the top of the plant. So he said to the fox, "The upper part of the plant will be mine, and the lower part will be yours." The fox agreed happily. When the potatoes were ready, the fox took all the potatoes from under the soil. The crocodile got only the upper parts of the plant, which were useless. Thus, the fox tricked the crocodile.
Rice Farming
Next time, the crocodile decided not to be fooled again. They planted rice. This time the crocodile said, "The lower part of the plant will be mine, and the upper part will be yours." But rice grows at the top of the plant. When the rice was ready, the fox took all the rice, and the crocodile again received only the useless lower part. Once more, he was tricked.
Sugarcane Farming
Finally, the crocodile thought of a new plan. He decided to take both the top and the bottom parts of the plant and give the middle part to the fox. The fox planted sugarcane. But the sweet juice of sugarcane is in the middle part. So the fox took the middle part, and the crocodile got only the top and the bottom parts, which were of no use. Once again, the clever fox won.
