Chapter 1 - The River Friends of Bangladesh

The River Friends of Bangladesh

In a calm village by the Padma River, three fish friends lived happily. There was Ilish, the sleek silver fish; Rui, the round and cheerful one; and Katla, the big, wise fish. Every day, they swam together among green reeds, playing hide-and-seek and sharing stories.

One sunny morning, Ilish said, "Let's explore the river's end today, where the water meets the wide fields." Rui clapped his fins with excitement. Katla nodded slowly, "Be careful, young friends. The river can be tricky, but together we are strong."

As they swam downstream, they passed floating water lilies and golden lotuses. Tiny shrimp waved their tiny claws, and crabs scuttled along the muddy banks. The friends talked about the villagers who relied on them for food, realizing their role in human lives.

Suddenly, a strong current swept them toward a narrow canal. Rui panicked, but Katla guided them calmly. "Trust me," said Katla. Together, they swam against the rushing water and reached a quiet corner, surrounded by lotus flowers.

In the calm corner, the friends met other river creatures: a playful turtle, a school of small colorful fish, and even a shy freshwater dolphin. Ilish shared stories of the river's history, how monsoon rains filled it, and how villagers celebrated fish festivals.

Rui exclaimed, "Wow! I never knew our river was so full of life!" Katla smiled, "Yes, and every creature, including us, has a part to play. Our river is alive because we respect it."

Suddenly, they heard a cry for help. A tiny fish was trapped in a discarded fishing net near the bank. Without hesitation, Ilish and Rui worked together to free it, while Katla kept watch for danger. When the little fish was safe, it thanked them and swam off happily.

"I guess helping others is also part of living in the river," said Rui. Katla nodded, "Exactly, every action we take affects someone else."

As the sun climbed higher, they discovered a shallow pond where young fish learned to swim. Ilish taught them how to glide with the current, Rui played games with them, and Katla told stories of the river's past. The little fish listened with wide eyes, excited to be part of the big river world.

By afternoon, the friends felt tired but happy. They realized that adventure was not just about exploring—it was about learning, helping, and sharing joy with others.

As the sun set, the three friends swam back home. Ilish sparkled in the golden light, Rui laughed with joy, and Katla guided them safely. They promised to take care of the river, the plants, and all creatures.

That night, under the starry sky, the river whispered softly. The friends knew that as long as they swam together, shared joy, helped others, and respected nature, their river home would remain a happy place for everyone—fish, villagers, and all creatures alike.
