"Atlético on the break... Griezmann with the delivery! SHAAAAAAANE! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!"
"It's in! It's in! Shane Carter has a hat-trick!"
"3-0! 3-0! Atlético Madrid lead by three goals!"
"Even the most optimistic Atlético supporter could never have predicted this. We haven't even reached halftime, and they are already up 3-0!"
"Shane finally scores with his foot today. It feels incredibly strange to say that, considering the absolute aerial clinic he put on in the opening thirty minutes."
The commentary box was in absolute pandemonium. The entire Calderón stadium erupted like a detonated powder keg.
Amidst the deafening roar of the crowd, Shane was immediately buried under a pile of wildly celebrating teammates. They screamed and shouted, completely lost in the euphoria of the moment. A 3-0 lead in a title decider was monumental. It essentially guaranteed they would win this match and secure all three points at home.
That meant they would exit this round with a clear three-point lead over Barcelona.
With only two matches left in the season, Atlético would only need one more win to officially lift the La Liga trophy. Given their terrifying consistency this year, securing three points from their remaining fixtures was practically a foregone conclusion. Their final two opponents were Mallorca at home and Real Zaragoza away. Mallorca were already mathematically relegated, and Zaragoza posed very little threat.
The league title was truly just one step away.
"Atlético Madrid have established a massive three-goal advantage. The match is not over yet, but their victory really just feels like a matter of time now," Spanish commentator Mario noted with a shake of his head.
On the other side of the press box, the Catalan commentator sat in heavy silence for a long time. Finally, he leaned into his microphone. "The only good news for Barcelona is that halftime is approaching, and the rain has finally stopped."
However, Barcelona fans watching around the world found absolutely no comfort in those two facts. Even if the second half was played under Barcelona's favorite sun-drenched skies, overturning a three-goal deficit seemed entirely impossible.
Up in the English broadcast booth, lead commentator Martin was buzzing with excitement.
"That curling strike from the edge of the box is his absolute trademark! The Barcelona defenders were far too terrified of his aerial threat. They completely collapsed into the six-yard box to guard against another header, but they forgot what Shane does best. He scored two headers today, but he has scored countless world-class curlers from that exact spot over the last two seasons."
Beside him, Gary nodded vigorously in agreement.
"You are entirely right, Martin. Shane's newly revealed heading ability has made his late runs completely unpredictable. Barcelona simply had no idea how to mark him."
Across global social media, football fans were in absolute shock.
"Is Barcelona really done?"
"A title decider? I honestly never expected it to be this one-sided."
"The suspense is completely dead at halftime."
"Atlético Madrid are actually going to win the league!"
Inside the stadium, the Atlético fans were chanting Shane's name in a deafening, rhythmic loop. The broadcast cameras cut to the touchline, locking onto Simeone, who was currently wrapped in a massive group hug with his coaching staff. The Atlético bench was a scene of pure joy.
Not far away, Pep Guardiola stood with his arms tightly crossed. His face was a mask of grim severity. Out on the pitch, the Barcelona players stood frozen in place. They looked like statues left behind in the rain.
"Who could have ever imagined the match unfolding like this?" Mario sighed into his microphone.
Atlético had scored in the opening thirty seconds. Then they struck again before Barcelona could even catch their breath. Mother Nature had then intervened, unleashing a torrential downpour that completely drowned out any hope of a Barcelona counter-offensive.
The rain had temporarily stopped. But Barcelona were still drowning. Could they possibly muster the courage to mount a comeback?
…
Very little time remained in the first half. In those final few minutes, Barcelona failed to launch any meaningful attacks. The referee blew the whistle, bringing the first forty-five minutes to a merciful end with the score frozen at 3-0.
The television broadcast captured the Barcelona players walking toward the tunnel. Their heads were bowed, and their expressions were hauntingly dark.
"Halftime has arrived! For Barcelona, the next fifteen minutes are absolutely critical," Martin noted gravely. "If they do not want to hand the La Liga title directly to Atlético Madrid, they must make drastic adjustments in that dressing room. They have forty-five minutes to pull off a miracle, as impossible as it seems."
…
Inside the away dressing room, the atmosphere was suffocating.
Guardiola could feel the dead air the moment he walked through the door. Barcelona's morale had crashed to rock bottom. He was struggling to keep his own composure, so he could only imagine how his players felt.
Who could have possibly predicted that the entire title race would be decided by Shane Carter's forehead? It was something no manager in the world could have prepared for. You can analyze the past, but no one can predict the future.
However, dwelling on the unfairness of it all was completely pointless now. Guardiola stepped into the center of the room and looked at his exhausted squad.
"Listen to me, boys. We have absolutely no way back now."
…
Inside the home dressing room, the scene could not have been more different.
Unlike the deathly silence next door, the Atlético locker room was bursting with cheers, laughter, and loud music. Before the match, none of them had expected things to go this smoothly. Leading 3-0 at halftime in a title decider was a dream.
How could they possibly lose from here? Confidence was rapidly bleeding into arrogance.
Simeone walked into the room and instantly sensed the dangerous shift in mentality. He cleared his throat loudly. He waited patiently for the music to be turned off and for his players to quiet down.
"Boys, our opponent is Barcelona," Simeone said, his voice cutting through the lingering excitement. "A 3-0 lead does not guarantee us a victory. This is a final, and they will not simply roll over and surrender."
Simeone paused for a moment, letting the gravity of his words settle in. Then, he brought up a legendary night in Istanbul.
"Liverpool came back from three goals down in a Champions League final to win it all. If they could do it, why can't Barcelona?"
Simeone swept his intense gaze across the room. "The match is not over. It is not time to celebrate yet!"
