Chapter 10 - The hell am I...?

"Arck!"

I woke up again with a sharp gasp, my head pounding so hard it was difficult to think.

"What happened now," I muttered, clicking my tongue as I looked around and confirmed that yes, I was still in the exact same place.

"Where even is here," I said out loud, because that question had been sitting unanswered long enough and it was starting to genuinely bother me.

[Artens]

I blinked, and then it registered.

"Wait, WHAT?!"

I was stunned for two reasons, and the first was that being in Artens made no sense at all, since that place was thousands of miles away from Arenford, which was itself only a short distance from the capital. The second reason was the voice, because I had no idea where it was coming from or who it belonged to.

"Who said that," I asked, though I already had a rough idea.

[You can call me System.]

"What?"

[I am here to guide you.]

"Guide me on what?"

[The conquest.]

"Stop feeding me answers one word at a time and just tell me everything. What conquest?!"

[You don't have sufficient privilege to learn about it.]

"Are you serious right now?"

[YOU. DON'T. HAVE. SUFFICIENT. PRIVILEGE. TO LEARN ABOUT THE CONQUEST. YOU MUST FIRST SURVIVE TILL THE BEGINNING OF THE CANON.]

I sighed and sat with that for a moment, because I genuinely couldn't follow what was happening or what any of it meant. What beginning? What was it even referring to?

"System," I said, deciding to try something more direct, "why am I in this world?"

[You are the representative of the Goddess Venera in this realm.]

"A goddess."

[Yes.]

"Okay so some goddess brought me here to be her representative, but representative in what exactly?"

[That answer is related to the conquest. You don't have sufficient privilege to know, user.]

I let out a long breath because this was genuinely starting to irritate me. I'd been brought here after being killed, and now it seemed like that might not have been a coincidence at all, which meant the goddess could actually be the reason I got shot in the first place.

[All answers will be provided once the user levels up to earn higher privilege.]

"Then who is the goddess?"

[She is the goddess of %^&@&^&()!!YUI(OU@Y@I!Y(U@IOY(@Y*(@!]

"What?"

[User is not permitted to know until the beginning.]

I turned that word over in my head again, the beginning, and wondered if it meant the start of the game, the first arc, something else entirely.

Why couldn't my life just be straightforward for once, and why couldn't this goddess just come out and say clearly what she wanted from me instead of locking everything behind privilege levels I didn't have yet?

"Fine," I said, "then at least tell me how I got here, how I ended up in this forest specifically, you can answer that much can't you?"

[It was a sin....]

"What does that mean?"

[Ding!]

[It seems you don't have sufficient privilege to learn more about your current situation. Endeavor to level up to gain more privileges.]

"OH COME ON!"

[Ding!]

[SIDE QUEST: There is no adventure without a little confrontation with death. Objective: Attend the Academy. Reward: 150 LP. Penalty: You don't want to know. Time remaining: 40:11:45:32]

"What is this," I said flatly, staring at the notification hovering in front of me.

[You have better things to worry about than that question. You barely have any LP left.]

"LP?"

[Lifepoints.]

[1 LP = 1 day to live.]

[User's total LP: 38.]
