Chapter 83 - 85

(Greek Mythology) The Abyss of the Underworld

Chapter 85

"Charon can be ignored for now. Let's discuss building the bridge first." The ever-nagging Hemera wasn't worried about Charon's situation at all; her only focus was on how to build a Greek mythological version of the Bridge to the Underworld.

Brothers are like that—too many of them become worthless, especially these reckless little brothers. —by the spoiled Hemera with her many brothers

"I haven't thought about getting involved," Denise replied calmly. Although it seemed rather heartless, since she wasn't going to respond, it was better not to be soft-hearted and give people hope.

"However, shouldn't the decision to build a bridge across the River Styx be made by King Hades?" Denise reminded Hemera that she seemed to have forgotten something.

"Say something like that, Hemera, are you trying to overstep your bounds? It's a good thing Hades knows about your silly and adorable nature, otherwise you'd be suspected of something in a heartbeat."

"...Uh...I didn't mean to." Hemera laughed awkwardly, feeling incredibly guilty for accidentally ignoring Hades.

Suddenly, she had this feeling that Hades' presence was weak—what to do? She believed it was just her imagination.

Okay, actually, Hades was very authoritative in the Underworld. His innate, overwhelming aura and meticulous personality successfully made him infamous for his ruthlessness throughout the three realms, adding another layer to the Underworld's terrifying reputation.

Unfortunately, none of this could overcome the fact that Hemera was a light deity not serving in the Underworld, so ignoring Hades was truly an accident.

"Besides, I don't think amnesia will affect ferrying the dead across the river." Denise disagreed with Hemera's view that amnesia meant she couldn't work.

With the lingering feel of his skills from so many years ago, and most importantly, the added advantage of his divine authority as a ferryman on the River Styx, rowing a boat—something inherently low-skill—was a piece of cake for Charon. Even with his amnesiac state, it wouldn't affect his work; he wasn't disabled.

As for caring for amnesiacs... →_→

What? Did you even speak? Denise thought the wind was too strong and she hadn't heard a thing.

"But I want the Bridge to the Dead," Hemera muttered dejectedly. It was just a small wish; was it really that hard to grant?

"You can dig a canal to bring the Styx water to your garden outside your temple, and then build a bridge over it," Denise said, indicating it wasn't a problem.

Although this was far from the high-quality replica she envisioned, she believed Hemera wouldn't mind.

"Great idea!" Hemera, so easily fooled, brightened up and happily accepted the suggestion.

"Hmm, I'll go back and ask my brother for help to build the Bridge of Helplessness, the Stone of Three Lives, and all that~~~" (in an exceptionally cheerful tone)

Fusheng: "My capable elder brother, what do you think about Hermella dumping these tasks, which should be done by the divine servants, on you?"

Aether (in a doting tone): "As long as she's happy."

"Yes, that's how it should be. My sister only needs to focus on me." (A doting brother's tone)

↑↑↑ Of course, the above is only the author's personal speculation and does not represent Aether's true opinion.

Hermella is very happy, and Denise says she is happy too.

Charon has never been very diligent in his work, and Hades has been dissatisfied for a long time. If it weren't for the fact that only a god with the divine authority of ferrying souls across the Styx could cross such a large number of dead souls in a short time, Hades would have replaced Charon long ago.

If Hermes were to actually suggest it to Hades, the chances of Hades agreeing would be a staggering 90%. Then, once Charon regained his memories, wouldn't she be driven crazy by the jobless Charon? Therefore, she couldn't let such a tragedy happen.

"What are you planning to do afterward?" Completely unaware of what her friend was secretly plotting, Hermes asked, her wish fulfilled.

"What do you mean?" Hermes' question was too broad; Denise needed specifics.

"What if, after Charon regains his memories, he doesn't give up and continues to pursue you? What are you going to do? Will you say yes?"

"Impossible." Denise was determined to remain single forever; she wouldn't change her mind for any reason.

"What if he doesn't give up?"

"So I think swearing to the River Styx to become a virgin is a good option." After thinking seriously for a moment, Denise suddenly had a brilliant idea.

What?! Σ( ° △°|||) Utterly dumbfounded

The more she thought about it, the better the idea seemed. Always decisive, Denise quickly made a decision. Before the shocked Hemera could recover, Denise, as efficient as ever, swore an oath before Hemera to the River Styx, vowing to remain a virgin for life.

Denise, having solved all the trouble in one fell swoop: Hooray! ヽ(▽)ノ

After a moment of stunned silence, Hemera finally reacted.

Hermera: You scared me to death!!! ∑(Дノ)ノ

Denise, can you please stop jumping to conclusions like that? Where's the basic trust between gods? At least give me some time to process this news! This is terrifying! We're no longer friends, you know that?

Having managed to process the series of unexpected events, and seeing Daenerys radiating good spirits, Hemera silently lit a row of candles for Charon, a rare pang of guilt rising in her heart.

Charon, I'm so sorry. I truly didn't mean to bring your beloved goddess to the River Styx to discuss building a bridge. I especially shouldn't have asked Daenerys what she planned to do. If I had known it would turn out this way, I would have definitely taken her to the temple; at least there would have been time to make amends.

After three seconds of half-hearted repentance, Hemera thought that a god like Charon was better off dying a tragic death.

Charon: ...

Sister, you're my own sister! What grudge could you possibly have against me?
