Chapter 12 - Chapter 15 — The Beginning of War

The gunshot shattered the silence like a bolt of lightning tearing through the storm-filled night. For a single heartbeat, the entire compound froze. Rain continued to pour from the dark sky, drumming against rusted containers and abandoned buildings while thunder rolled across the horizon. Then chaos erupted. Enemy guards immediately opened fire from every direction, transforming the abandoned warehouse compound into a battlefield. Muzzle flashes illuminated the darkness while bullets sliced through the rain-soaked air. Men shouted orders, weapons roared, and the night exploded into violence.

Standing at the front of his forces, Riven remained completely still. Rain streamed down his face and soaked his black clothes, yet he seemed unaffected by the storm around him. His eyes remained locked on the warehouse standing at the center of the compound. Somewhere inside that building was Anya. Since the moment she had been dragged into that black van, only one thought had occupied his mind. Find her. Bring her back. Nothing else mattered.

With a single gesture from Riven, dozens of armed men surged forward. The battle intensified instantly. Enemy defenses tried desperately to hold their positions, but Riven's forces continued advancing through the storm with ruthless determination. Explosions shook the ground as grenades detonated near barricades and vehicles. Broken concrete scattered across the compound while frightened guards scrambled to reinforce collapsing defenses. It quickly became clear that this was no longer a rescue mission. This was war.

Inside the warehouse, Anya sat alone in a dimly lit room. Her wrists remained bound while armed guards watched her carefully from the doorway. Every explosion made her flinch. Every gunshot caused her heart to race. Yet beneath the fear, another feeling slowly began growing inside her. Hope. She knew who had come for her. Despite the danger, despite the carefully planned kidnapping, Riven had found her. Somehow, he was getting closer.

Far beneath the warehouse, hidden inside a secret control room, the mysterious villain watched the battle unfold through dozens of surveillance screens. Their confidence remained visible, but cracks had begun to appear beneath the surface. Riven's forces were advancing much faster than expected. Defensive positions were falling one after another. Guards rushed into the room with increasingly desperate reports. The eastern perimeter had been breached. The outer compound had fallen. The enemy lines were collapsing.

For the first time that night, genuine concern appeared in the villain's eyes.

They slowly rose from their chair and stared at the monitor displaying Riven's position. Rain, darkness, bullets—none of it seemed capable of slowing him down. The villain smiled bitterly.

"So you finally came."

The words sounded almost amused.

For years they had watched Riven build his empire. For years they had lived beneath his shadow while his influence spread across the city. Every victory he achieved became another reminder of their own failures. Every success fed the resentment growing inside them. Destroying someone like Riven through direct confrontation was impossible. That was why they had chosen another target. Someone capable of becoming his weakness.

Anya.

Meanwhile, the sounds of battle continued growing louder throughout the warehouse. Guards rushed through corridors while emergency alarms echoed from every direction. Dust drifted from the ceiling as another explosion rocked the building. Anya immediately noticed the change in the atmosphere. The guards seemed nervous. Afraid. They were no longer acting like men who believed victory was guaranteed.

Then the villain entered the room.

The moment Anya saw them, a chill ran through her body. There was something disturbingly familiar about the way they moved, the way they spoke, and the way they looked at her. It felt as if she had seen them before. Somewhere. Somehow.

"You trusted me," the villain said quietly.

Anya frowned.

"What do you want from me?"

The villain smiled.

"A better question would be why Riven wants you."

The answer confused her even more. For weeks, she had been asking herself the same thing. Why had Riven saved her? Why did he keep protecting her? Why was he willing to risk so much?

The villain seemed to read her thoughts.

"You still don't understand, do you?" they asked softly. "You think all of this happened because of coincidence."

Anya remained silent.

The villain took another step closer.

"No. Everything was planned."

Before they could continue, the warehouse shook violently. A massive explosion echoed somewhere nearby. Dust filled the room while alarms blared throughout the building.

A terrified guard burst through the doorway.

"Boss! They've reached the central corridor!"

For the first time, the villain's expression changed.

Riven was already inside.

The realization sent a wave of panic through the remaining guards. Defensive lines that were supposed to hold for an hour had collapsed in less than half that time. The Mafia King was tearing through the warehouse like a storm.

Minutes later, another explosion shook the building.

Then another.

And another.

Each one sounded closer than the last.

The villain slowly turned toward the reinforced steel door at the far end of the room.

So did Anya.

Everyone could hear it now.

Footsteps.

Gunfire.

Shouting.

The battle was almost here.

Suddenly, a powerful impact slammed against the steel door.

The entire room froze.

Another impact followed.

The reinforced metal groaned under the force.

Guards immediately raised their weapons.

A third impact shook the door even harder.

Bolts snapped.

Metal bent inward.

Anya's heart pounded wildly.

She already knew who was on the other side.

The fourth impact shattered the lock completely.

With a deafening crash, the steel door burst open.

Smoke and dust filled the room.

Several guards aimed their weapons toward the entrance.

Then a figure emerged from the shadows.

Tall.

Silent.

Terrifying.

Rainwater dripped from his black clothes while his cold eyes scanned the room.

For a brief moment, his gaze found Anya.

Relief washed across her face.

"Riven..."

The sound of his name barely left her lips.

Then his attention shifted toward the villain.

Instantly, the atmosphere changed.

Years of hatred.

Years of secrets.

Years of unfinished conflict.

Everything seemed to collide in that single moment.

The villain smiled slowly.

"So... you finally made it."

Riven's expression remained unreadable.

His voice was calm.

Dangerously calm.

"Bring her to me."

Outside, thunder exploded across the sky.

Inside the warehouse, the final confrontation had begun.

And before the night ended, the truth hidden in the shadows would finally come to light.
