Whoosh— Whoosh—
Still lost in the haze of sleep, Chu Yuan suddenly felt a biting chill sweep across his face.
Crackle, crackle—
A faint popping sound echoed in his ears, like the erratic yet rhythmic dancing of a campfire. It wasnt jarring; instead, the soothing cadence seemed to beckon him back into a deeper slumber.
Yet, the sound—both strange and hauntingly familiar—sent a sudden jolt through him.
His body convulsed instinctively as his eyes snapped open. Before him was a crude, makeshift ceiling—a few thin wooden poles lashed together, thatched with what looked like dried straw.
Chu Yuan: "O_o???"
....?
"WTF—?"
Instinctively, the words escaped Chu Yuan's lips.
What was happening? Wasnt he just sleeping in his small apartment? Why was he in this godforsaken place?
Transmigration!?
Having read countless novels, the thought immediately flashed through Chu Yuans mind.
A powerful surge of emotion swept over him. Suddenly, it felt as if a faint electric current was coursing through his entire body. Goosebumps erupted everywhere, and his scalp tingled with numbness!!!
It was real! Definitely!! He was certain this was transmigration, not some kidnapping for a movie set; this opening scene was just too familiar.
Bolting upright, Chu Yuan scanned his surroundings. He felt his mind working with exceptional clarity, as if his thoughts were running at full throttle.
He was sitting on a small, elevated mound of earth. Beneath him was a neatly spread layer of dry straw. Beside him, a small campfire flickered, but it looked ready to die out in the wind at any moment.
About a meter away from the fire, several logs of dry wood were stacked neatly, apparently meant to replenish the flames.
Chu Yuan was currently inside a thatched hut. It had no walls, only four crude wooden posts supporting the roof. As the chilling wind blew, the hut trembled slightly as if it could collapse at any time, yet miraculously, it held firm.
Outside the hut lay a thick, dense fog, limiting visibility to a blurry 4–6 meters.
Trees, bushes, foliage, and scattered boulders loomed vaguely in the mist. With the occasional sound of birds chirping and insects buzzing, Chu Yuan estimated he was likely in the middle of a forest.
