Chapter 2 - The Whisper Behind The Walls: Part-3(Peace?)

But Meera did.

It flickered in the dark window behind her—slow, patient, almost proud.

"Didyou seethat?" Mina whispered.

"See what?" the nurse replied gently, adjusting her IV line. "Try to rest,Mina."

Rest.

That word again.

When the nurse left, the room fell silent except for the steady beep of the heart monitor. The white hospital walls felt smaller than the old house ever had.

Mina sat up slowly and stared at the window.

Her reflection stared back.

Alone.

She exhaled shakily. It was just my mind, she told herself. Just another trick.

But then—

Tap.

A soft knock on the glass.

From the inside.

Her breath froze. The window did not open to the outside. It faced the hallway.

And the hallway lights were off.

Tap. Tap.

The reflection began to move half a second later than she did.

Mina raised her hand.

The reflection followed.

She lowered it.

The reflection held its hand up.

"You said Iwasthe truth," the voice whispered fromeverywhereand nowhere. "But you forgot something."

Mina's head throbbed as more memories forced their way in—not just Alia falling.

There had been another presence that night.

Aarush.

He had been at the top of the stairs.

Crying.

Begging them to stop fighting.

Alia hadn't slipped.

She had turned suddenly—

Trying to protect him.

Mina gasped. "No… I didn't pushher…"

"You didn't," thevoice agreed softly.

The hospital door creaked open.

A small figure stood there.

Aarush.

But younger.

The same age he had been that night.

"Didi," he said, tears in his eyes. "It wasn't you."

The heart monitor began to beep faster.

The reflection in the glass stepped forward again—but this time, it wasn't Mina's face.

It was Alia's.

Calm. Pale. Watching.

"You blamed yourself," Alia's reflection said. "Sohe wouldn't haveto."

The truth crashed down.

Aarush had pushed Alia accidentally during the chaos. Mina had seen it. And in that one split second, she had chosen to take the blame—shielding her younger brother from guilt.

Her mind had split not because she was a monster—

But because she was protecting someone she loved.

Tears streamed down her face.

"I remember now," she whispered.

The beeping steadied.

The younger Aarush in the doorway faded.

The reflection shifted back to her own face.

Whole.

For the first time, there were no whispers.

The next morning, sunlight filled the hospital room. The doctors called it "breakthrough clarity." Her parents cried with relief.

But as Mina was discharged weeks later, walking past the long corridor toward the exit, she paused near a darkened window.

Just to be sure.

Her reflection smiled.

Only one smile.

She turned to leave—

And the hallway clock above the exit flickered briefly.

3:03.

It blinked.

Then changed to 3:04.

Mina stepped outside into the sunlight.

Behind her, in the glass doors—

For just a second—

A faint handprint appeared.

And slowly faded away.

The whispers were gone.

Or perhaps…

They were finally at peace.

Will this continue?.....
