Chapter Four
"I will."
Ren declared completely unbothered by the fact that he only had nineteen dollars in his original bank as he placed Monica on the couch, jogging to his kitchen to make the lady a cup of tea.
Monica, who was on the couch, couldn't believe her eyes. 'Mr... Mr Esper is making me tea?! Since when was he so friendly?'
Monica watched as Ren moved around the tiny kitchen, looking nothing like the shuffling drunk she'd seen stumble through the hallways for the past three months.
'Seriously, what has happened to him...' Monica bit her lip, wondering before she slapped both of her cheeks to regain her focus. 'Focus, Monica. Rent. You must collect the rent today to pay Neil's medical bills!'
'So, tell me more about the system.' Ren sighed as he stared at the translucent blue screen while watching the tea boil underneath.

'Oh. I see.' Ren nodded, pouring the tea in two coffee mugs that he found in the kitchen cupboard earlier. 'Thank you, I guess.'
Ren returned to Monica with two mismatched mugs. One of which was chipped while the other one was stained. Ren handed Monica the less damaged one like he was taught in the military.
"Thank you," Monica whispered, trying to control her blush as she wrapped her hands around the warm cup. "So. What is it that you wanted to discuss, Mr Esper?"
Ren settled into the chair across from her, cradling his own mug. "You said you needed money for your brother's treatment, didn't you, Monica?" He questioned while sipping from his cup, keeping his eyes focused on the lady, who was clenching her thighs tight for some reason.
"Yes." Monica nodded as her grip on the coffee mug tightened. 'Why is he suddenly asking me about my brother? Is he going to pay the rent or not?'
"How much is the hospital bill if you don't mind me asking?" Ren asked, pulling Monica out of her thoughts almost immediately as she stared at him with her jaw dropped for a good two seconds. 'Why is he suddenly curious about my brother's hospital bills?'
Monica closed her mouth as she shook her head to get a reality check before responding. "Four Hundred Two Thousand Dollars."
Ren's mind immediately went to work. 'A thousand percent of four hundred two thousand is... four million and twenty thousand dollars. Plus the original amount gives four million four hundred twenty-two thousand dollars total. Enough to make her forget about the rent.'
Ren quickly did the math again just to confirm the amounts as a huge sigh left his lips. 'If only, I was allowed to spend the money on myself. Oh! The things I could have done…'
Monica watched Ren's face as he stared into space, clearly lost in some kind of thought that was making him sad. "Mr. Esper?" she prompted. "Are you okay?"
"Ah! Yes. Could you wait here, Miss Monica? I'll quickly change. I actually have to withdraw money from the bank to pay rent. We can stop by your brother first."
Monica blinked, a little stunned at Ren's thoughtfulness as this was the first time she was the recipient, not his cheater girlfriend. "Are you sure about that, Mr Esper? I don't really want to take any more of your precious time than I already have."
'She's too sweet and submissive to be a landlord.' Ren smiled at his thought as he got up from his chair. "It's no problem at all, Monica. I'll take that cup if you are done drinking."
'I must be nice to her. She's my best shot at splurging the five hundred till I make connections with some other women on this planet.' Ren concluded as he reached out, taking the mug from Monica's hands, passing her a gentle smile, the moment their fingers brushed accidentally.
Monica felt a jolt of electricity at the contact, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird as she felt moisture in her black lace.
"I'll be back in five minutes." Ren straightened as he looked at Monica, who was looking up at him with teary eyes, making him suck a huge breath.
"Y-Yes, Mr. Esper."
True to his words, exactly five minutes later, Ren walked out of his bedroom, properly dressed, looking nothing like the drunkard he had been for the past three months.
"...Miss Monica?"
Ren called out the lady's name. But, to his surprise, she was too busy washing his dirty dishes with her back turned towards him.
Ren couldn't help but blink as he stared at the small figure gently placing the washed dishes in the dish stand. 'What kind of landlord is this?' Ren couldn't help but wonder. 'I guess, I have to delay moving to Elysium Heights.'
"Mr. Esper?! You're already done?" Monica gasped in surprise as she turned around taking in Ren's appearance. He wasn't some sort of model, just a normal 6 foot 2 guy.
However, Monica couldn't help her heart that started beating like crazy ever since she caught a glimpse of him feeding a stray cat.
"Ah yes! I was just trying to find my car keys. Couldn't find them in the bedroom." Ren responded as he looked everywhere but in Monica's red eyes.
Monica's eyes filled with instant sadness. 'Poor guy. Drinking for three months must have seriously damaged his brain. He doesn't even remember that he doesn't have a car. But, a bicycle. That bitch. How could she hurt such a nice guy?!'
Monica pulled out her car keys from her pocket instead as she made her way to Ren. "Actually, I borrowed them from you two days ago to take my brother to the ER."
"That's alright." Ren responded as he took the keys from Monica's hand, making his gaze fall on her feet. "Didn't you have a sprain though? How are you moving around so normally?"
"Oh! That! I fixed it. No biggie. I'm used to pain." Monica waved her hand at Ren as she immediately made her way to the door.
'Used to pain?' Ren couldn't help but blink at the blushing lady, who put on her heels as if she hadn't sprained her ankle in the first place, opening the door.
"Hurry up, Mr. Esper! Let's go!"
"Monica! There you are!"
