Chapter 1 - The Test of a True Heart

The Test of a True Heart

Raj was the sole heir to a massive business empire, living in a world of luxury cars and silver spoons. However, he had a deep fear: did people love him, or his bank balance? To find the answer, he decided to live a double life.

He moved into a tiny, rented room in a crowded neighborhood, wore faded clothes, and took a job as a simple delivery boy. That's where he met Pompi.

A Love Without Price Tags

Pompi was a kind-hearted girl from a middle-class family who worked at a local bookstore. She didn't care about the bicycle Raj rode or the fact that he often shared his single tiffin with her to save money.

She fell for his laughter, his kindness, and the way he stayed by her side when she was stressed. To Pompi, Raj was a hardworking orphan struggling to make ends meet. She started bringing him extra food and even saved up her own small earnings to buy him a new shirt, thinking he couldn't afford one.

The Proposal and the Truth

After a year of dating, Pompi took Raj's hand and said, "Raj, I don't care that you have no family or money. I want to spend my life with you. Let's get married."

Raj felt a pang of guilt. He had seen enough—he knew her love was pure.

"Pompi," he said seriously, "I have a confession. I'm not who you think I am. I'm actually the son of the Malhotra Industrialists. I have a mansion, cars, and a family waiting for me."

Pompi burst out laughing. She patted his cheek and said, "Stop watching so many movies! It's okay if you're poor, Raj. You don't have to lie to impress me. I love you just the way you are."

No matter how much Raj tried to convince her, showing her photos on his phone (which she thought were edited), she refused to believe him. She simply thought he was insecure about his poverty.

The Grand Revelation

They had a simple registry marriage. On the night of the wedding, Raj told her he was taking her to his "real" home. Pompi expected a small hut or a tiny apartment. Instead, the car pulled up to a massive iron gate that opened into a palace-like estate.

Dozens of servants stood in a line, bowing as they entered. Raj's parents walked out, draped in silk and gold, holding a welcoming tray.

Pompi stood frozen. She looked at the chandeliers, the marble floors, and then at Raj, who was now dressed in a designer sherwani.

The Bittersweet Ending

Instead of being overjoyed, Pompi's eyes filled with tears. She felt a deep sense of hurt.

The Betrayal: For a whole year, she had worried about his meals and his future.

The False Identity: She had fallen in love with a man who struggled alongside her, only to find out that struggle was a "test."

The Loneliness: She realized the "lonely orphan" she wanted to protect didn't exist.

"You let me worry for you every single night," she whispered. "I loved the Raj who had nothing but me. Now, I feel like I married a stranger."

Raj realized that while his test proved her love, it had also broken her trust. He spent the next many months not using his wealth, but using his heart to win back the trust of the girl who had loved him when she thought he had nothing.
