Chapter 1 - The Ordinary Nobody

Chapter 1 —

Every day was the same.

Leon Vale woke up.

Went to school.

Came back home.

Slept.

Repeat.

No excitement.

No drama.

No main-character moments.

Just… existence.

Leon wasn't ugly.

But he wasn't handsome either.

Not smart.

Not athletic.

Not rich.

Just painfully average.

The kind of person your eyes slide past in a crowded room.

Morning — Small Apartment

The sound of an old alarm clock buzzed weakly beside his bed.

Leon groaned.

"…Five more minutes…"

The clock didn't care.

It kept buzzing like it had a personal grudge.

With the energy of a man who had already given up on life, Leon dragged himself upright.

Small apartment.

Peeling wall paint.

Thin mattress.

Yeah… same as always.

From the kitchen, his mom's tired voice called:

"Leon! You'll be late again!"

"I'm up…"

Barely.

Later — Kisaragi High School

Classes dragged.

Leon half-listened.

Half-daydreamed.

Mostly survived.

Until—

The classroom door slid open.

Their homeroom teacher walked in looking completely done with life.

Teacher:

"Alright… listen up."

No one was listening.

She sighed.

"…We need a class president and assistant. I'm not dealing with nominations. You'll draw lots. Whoever gets picked, that's it."

The class instantly buzzed with energy.

Leon blinked slowly.

Inside his head:

…Yeah, not my problem.

He reached into the box when it came to his turn.

Pulled a paper.

Walked back to his seat.

Didn't even check it immediately.

Because honestly?

Nothing ever happened to him anyway.

Ten Seconds Later

Leon finally opened the slip.

His brain lagged.

He blinked.

Looked again.

Then slowly raised his hand.

"…Um. I got class president."

Silence.

Then—

"HUH?!"

"WHO??"

"Wait, that guy exists??"

Heads turned.

Eyes narrowed.

Murmurs spread.

Leon adjusted his glasses awkwardly.

Yeah.

This was already going badly.

The teacher just nodded tiredly.

"Alright. Leon Vale is class president."

Just like that.

No ceremony.

No hype.

Just paperwork and suffering.

Then — She Stood Up

A soft chair scrape echoed.

The prettiest girl in class rose gracefully.

Long dark hair.

Gentle expression.

Perfect posture.

The room instantly quieted.

Girl (soft voice):

"…I think I drew assistant president."

The teacher looked relieved.

"Good. Ayane Fujimori — assistant president."

Leon's brain:

…Oh.

Oh no.

Why is the universe doing this to me?

After School —

Students packed up and left.

Leon was still processing life.

Then—

Soft footsteps approached.

He looked up.

Ayane Fujimori stood beside his desk.

Smiling.

Gentle.

Almost shy.

Ayane:

"Um… Leon-kun."

Leon internally short-circuited.

"Yes??"

She gave a small polite bow.

"Let's work well together as president and assistant, okay?"

She smiled.

And walked away.

Leon sat frozen.

Completely frozen.

Inside his head:

…Wait.

WAIT.

There's no way.

This only happens in anime.

There is actually no way.

He slapped his cheeks lightly.

"…I'm definitely hallucinating."

Next Day:

Leon came in early.

Hair slightly more combed.

Uniform actually straight.

Man was trying.

During break, he finally gathered the courage and approached Ayane and her friend group.

Leon (awkward):

"Uh… sorry to interrupt…"

Her friends looked mildly annoyed.

Ayane turned.

Still smiling sweetly.

"Yes?"

Leon swallowed.

"So about the file work the teacher mentioned… maybe we could—"

Ayane stood up.

Walked closer.

And her smile… disappeared.

Her eyes turned cold.

Sharp.

Completely different person.

Ayane (low voice):

"Look. I don't know what gave you the confidence to talk to me during class…"

Leon froze.

"…but don't try that again."

Behind her—

Snickers.

Ayane leaned slightly closer.

"I talk to you when I want to. You don't come to me. Understand… glasses?"

And just like that—

Reality hit.

Hard.

Leon stood there quietly.

Then slowly pushed his glasses up.

"…Got it."

For a split second, Ayane's expression flickered —

like she hadn't expected that answer.

Leon turned away.

His chest felt tight.

Not pain.

Not anger.

Just… familiar disappointment.

Leon Vale was still ordinary.

But...
