Chapter 19 - Chapter Nineteen

Meanwhile, at the Njemanze Villa, moonlight spilled over the Njemanze compound, its glow catching the edges of manicured hedges and painting the swimming pool with liquid silver. Michael leaned against the cool stone balcony, chin resting on his knuckles as he watched the scene. A smile tugged at his lips, mirroring the crescent moon hanging low in the sky. Happiness simmered in his chest, warm and steady, but beneath it burned a different kind of heat - the unwavering flame of his determination. Chioma's face swam before his eyes, and he felt an ache in his chest, a longing to weave their dreams together under this same sky. He craved the day she would be his, that smile permanently etched on her face, reflecting his own. He was hopeful that the day would come when Chioma would be his woman.

Just then, a beep sounded from his phone resting on the couch. A frown creased Michael's brow as he recognised the Whatsapp notification belonged to Jessica. He hesitated for a moment before reaching for the phone, the warmth in his chest replaced by a flicker of annoyance.

'Michael, please... give me a chance. I can't live without you,' the message read.

With a stern expression, Michael responded to her with a voice note, 'Are you still chasing after men at this hour? What is your problem?'

'My problem is you,' Jessica replied.

Michael sighed. 'How can you be so shameless?'

Rolling her eyes, Jessica retorted, 'What's wrong with being shameless? I love you. Can't you understand that?'

'Go to bed. I'm not in the mood to entertain thoughts of you,' Michael snapped.

'How about going out for a drink with me... I'll send you the location. Let's get drunk and have our drivers take us home... what do you...' Jessica trailed off.

'Go to bed,' Michael replied curtly.

Before Michael could finish listening to Jessica's voice note, he sent his reply and tossed his phone onto the couch. After spending a while on the balcony, he picked up his phone and headed to his room.
