Chapter 5
Leon takes a few steps back, before leaving the tower, and going back through the market/shopping district, he finds a small scrap bench, he sits on it, he pulls out the map, the paper uncrinkling as he pulls it out he looks around at other villages on the map, not finding any as interesting as the one he's at, he does see a small military base, marked on the map that turned into a village.
Leon decides to go back home in a few days.
Leon puts the map back into his backpack, standing up from the bench and walking out of the shopping district, looking around for a house, or a hotel, somewhere to stay.
Leon looks at the sky for a second, noticing it is already darkening, before an alarm goes off. The noise comes from the towers, it's brutal, like an air-raid siren, Leon thinks to himself, maybe a nightly curfew?
Leon tries to ask a shop owner as he rushes past Leon, all the men that are in Leon's view rush past him and towards the towers, while the women and children rush away and to the edge of the village. Leon walks towards the towers, the air-raid siren still blaring.
Leon sees something he shouldn't: a massive dragon that looks like a snake bursts through the right tower. Leon falls onto his back as scrap, wood, stone, and parts of the drill shatter through the air. Leon instinctively shields his face and organs with his hands and legs and uses his body enhancement magic.
Nothing much hits him other than wood chips and dust.
The serpentine dragon slams into a building, causing even more damage. The men rush in, shooting fire, earth, and other types of magic that Leon hasn't heard about from his grandfather.
The attack is over fast, but not fast enough; a few men and women are dead, maybe 10 in total, but the loss is heavy for a village this small.
Leon stands up, some dust falling off him. Leon waits for the shop owner to return from the fight, but he doesn't.
Leon goes to another shop owner who's returning, talking as he walks
"Hey? What was that back there?" Leon asks with a shaky voice, that's normal for an outsider.
"That? It was a burrow wyrm, it's blind but massive, it lives underground, sometimes the drilling wakes it up or startles it while it's doing whatever it does down there." The shop owner says while sighing.
"Is this… a normal occurrence?" Leon asks
"It happens nearly every day. Why do you think the towers and homes are made of scrap? We don't think they withstand these attacks for long; we make them out of replaceable materials."The shop owner walks behind the counter.
Leon, needing to know more about this world, asks: "What about that magic back there? My grandfather never taught me about that stuff, only body enhancement?" Leon says as he leans against a shelf
The shop owner sighs once more, "Listen, man, I don't know what you do or don't know, maybe find someone who does, like the person who created that rune tablet I saw you use not too long ago, his names scott hes probably at the dead body of the burrow Wyrm, collecting more information about the monsters."
