Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Who is the Head of the Family? (Leaning Back)

Dorset, the place where Newt and his wife, Tina, lived in seclusion.

As for the specific address—which street or which number—no one knew it aside from the owners of the Scamander household.

As always, the magically concealed Scamander home remained tranquil. Although people came and went past the entrance, no one could discover that there was a house here.

Because today, the Scamander family would welcome a rare human guest who was not a magical creature.

Ever since Dumbledore had called Newt out late at night and the two had conferred outside for an entire evening, the mistress of the Scamander household, Tina, knew that a little girl would be coming to their home.

Married to Newt for many years, they had only raised one son. After their son married and moved out, they had a grandson. Although life was already very complete, occasionally, Mrs. Scamander would fantasize about having another granddaughter.

And today, she finally had the opportunity to briefly fulfill this wish.

Her grandson loved sweets, so presumably, the arriving girl would not refuse them either.

Her wand waved, arranging the newly bought sweets on the freshly cleaned table. Just then, the sound of the doorbell rang from the entrance.

She walked to the window and saw her husband leading a silver-haired little girl inside.

"This place has been concealed with magic; even Dumbledore cannot find it. So if you want to go out, you must tell us in advance."

Newt was still rambling on with explanations for Kate when he looked up and saw his wife already standing by the window waiting for them.

Following his gaze, Kate also saw the legendary Mrs. Scamander.

Tina Goldstein, a former American Auror, who had moved to England after marrying Newt.

She was much like Kate had imagined; the young and beautiful woman from the movies retained her temperament even in her twilight years.

Kate smiled sweetly and politely at the old lady by the window.

Even Kate herself did not expect how lethal her current appearance—cute and petite, paired with a perfectly timed smile—would be to an old lady longing for a granddaughter.

Tina opened the door, shared a routine hug with her husband, and then her gaze glued itself to Kate.

"Quick, child, come in and have some hot tea. I also prepared some sweets; I don't know if you will like them."

Faced with such an enthusiastic mistress, Kate could not bring herself to display the awkwardness of a teenager.

Consequently, Newt watched as the child, who had just been looking nervous in front of him, seemed to become slightly different when facing his wife.

"Mrs. Scamander, thank you for your hospitality!"

"Mrs. Scamander, the tea you brewed is delicious!"

"Mrs. Scamander, I really like the sweets you prepared!"

After a string of "Mrs. Scamander" calls, Tina had already been coaxed into continuous laughter by this silver-haired cutie.

Newt swore that his wife hadn't even smiled this happily when meeting their own grandson.

What happened to the shy and bashful little girl? Why was this slightly different from what he had imagined?

Kate, busy establishing a good relationship with Tina, obediently ate the sweets handed to her while not forgetting to survey the surrounding environment.

From the outside, this house looked like an ordinary wizarding family's home. However, once she truly walked inside, she discovered that the space here was much deeper than it appeared from the outside; presumably, the Undetectable Extension Charm had been cast.

The entire house gave off the impression of having been lived in for many years, yet it appeared exceptionally clean and tidy, obviously maintained constantly.

There were no electric lights in the living room, no television or radio, nor any conceivable modern electronic products. placed in an ordinary British household in the nineties, this would seem inconceivable.

But thinking about how this was a wizard's home, Kate felt it was only natural. After all, only her old butler, out of care for her and at her request, would install various electrical appliances in their home.

Her peripheral vision finally shifted from the room's various facilities to Newt, whom the two of them had ignored.

Kate thought for a moment, grabbed a piece of candy that wasn't too sweet from the table, ran over, raised her little head, and stuffed it into Newt's hand.

"Teacher, you have one too!"

Finally feeling the care from his disciple, Newt raised his hand to rub her head. Although he didn't eat the candy, he didn't refuse it either.

"Alright, alright, little Kate, let's go upstairs and see your room."

Tina, whose heart and eyes were now filled with such an obedient child as Kate, was single-mindedly intent on taking her to see the carefully arranged small room.

Newt, instantly feeling like he had become a lonely old man again, stood in the living room with a bewildered expression. He watched them go upstairs before helplessly scratching his head.

Oh well, at least he didn't have to worry about how his wife and disciple would get along.

It was just that, recalling Kate's performance just now, and associating it with a certain fellow he had met in the past who also bore the surname Shafiq...

Newt poured himself some hot tea while looking at the candy in his hand, almost laughing out loud.

That old fellow he had met by chance during his travels back then, who always pitted himself against Newt—now his granddaughter was still calling Newt 'Teacher' all the same.

On the second floor.

"This room was originally prepared for our grandson. I reorganized it a bit; you can stay here for now."

Tina led Kate to push open the door at the end of the second-floor corridor. One wall of the room was filled with books, while a bed and wardrobe were placed on the other side.

Aside from that, there was still considerable space in the bedroom. Sunlight projected in through the window, reflecting on the wooden floor, making it appear exceptionally serene.

Kate walked to the bookshelf, stood on her tiptoes to take down a book, and opened it, only to discover that they were all books recording magical creatures. Sure enough, it was Newt's grandson; even their hobbies were exactly the same.

"Thank you, Mrs. Scamander, I like this room very much." She turned around and pointed to the small space in the bedroom near the window. "May I ask, can I put a desk here?"

Tina blinked lovingly: "Of course you can."

As she spoke, she gently waved her wand. Several empty flower pots by the window gradually transformed, finally turning into a set of desk and chair.

What superb Transfiguration...

Although Kate had not seen others cast Transfiguration, that didn't stop her from having read many books. Transfiguration of this level was already extremely rare among the wizarding population; she was indeed worthy of being a former Auror.

She curiously put down the book and stepped forward to stroke the desk in front of her, yet she couldn't feel any texture similar to the flower pots from before.

This was magic, simply miraculous skill.

"You will learn spells like this in the future too," Tina reminded her gently, seeing her look of amazement.

Kate retracted her hand and nodded seriously: "I will work hard."

With such a good teacher as Newt, she had to study magical knowledge well—at least so that after enrolling in Hogwarts, she could graduate alive!
