Luellen froze at the reaction she got. She hung her head lower and only flattened her palms on her thighs. Before she could speak again, Leander cut her off. His words even ran together as if he wanted to cram as many as possible into one breath.
"The woman from Payroll is one of Gala's lackeys in the Tower. I'm sure she's only trying to make you look bad to everyone else. Also, she asked Summer instead of any of us three. She just lucked out." Leander let out a slight grumble. "…this isn't about your lost hours."
"Really?" Luellen looked up at him again. However, unlike earlier, his brows were already knitted. His eyes even moved sharply, as if stabbing everything he laid his gaze upon. "…uhm, Leander?"
"…I missed a turn."
"What?"
Leander stopped at a red light. He turned to her and stroked Luellen's head. "It's fine. We're passing through Gardner's Hall on our way home now. Do you want to get something?"
