Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Skipping Work Operation

Jordan lay comfortably on the sofa, watching his Stand's movements, when he suddenly felt like he'd discovered a new world.

"Having a full-time housekeeper definitely makes things much more convenient!"

A handsome pale purple face suddenly appeared in the void, its sharp, knife-like gaze shooting straight at him.

Noticing the death stare from F-boy, Jordan blushed—a rare occurrence.

He then remembered that the current version had fixed the bug where the Stand couldn't physically attack people.

Best not to be too arrogant!

The man chuckled awkwardly, slightly toning down his ugly capitalist demeanor.

"Don't overthink it! What I mean is, B-rank 'Precision' is definitely more suitable for things like housework."

Having foreseen his fate of being exploited, F-boy gave a disdainful look that said, "You old bastard, you're really terrible. I don't believe you for a second," before sinking into the void and disappearing.

Jordan even temporarily awakened his x-ray vision and saw the internationally recognized friendly gesture the Stand made in the void before leaving.

Sigh. Is this what happiness is for capitalists?

The person slumped back onto the sofa, hands behind his head, a smile playing on his lips. He immediately dismissed his earlier immature idea.

No. You can't even imagine the happiness of capitalists!

After leaving the apartment, Jordan walked the streets of Z-City and made two phone calls.

The first call was to the bureau. Anzu answered.

"Special Affairs Section. May I ask what brings you here?"

"Hey, Anzu, you're at the station so early?"

"It's already 8:40, Section Chief. Shouldn't this be normal working hours?"

Anzu recognized Jordan's voice. Her previously energetic tone immediately deflated.

A muffled thud came from the other end of the line, as if her chin had slammed directly onto the table.

"Ha, is that so?" Jordan chuckled, trying to hide the fact he'd forgotten about normal working hours. "By the way, I have some things to take care of today. I won't be reporting to the bureau."

Anzu was silent for two seconds. Then she let out a furious roar of impotent rage. "With the Section Chief's current superpowers, reporting to the station should be trivial, right?! So someone just wants to skip work, doesn't he?!"

Jordan subconsciously moved his phone away. Only after the energetic roar from the other end temporarily subsided did he pick it up again and continue, "Hey, hey, don't worry about such details. My dear subordinate, keep up the good work today!"

"Then please, our inconsiderate Section Chief, stop calling and hogging our precious line, interfering with the Special Affairs Section's normal operations! Over!"

Hearing the busy tone from the other end, Jordan blinked. The deputy section chief was able to speak such a long passage without punctuation in one breath. Her lung capacity was truly impressive.

This character card was definitely worth using!

Immediately afterward, he dialed the number of his Hero Association official contact, Lanny.

"Miss Lanny, This is Jordan Evans. I need to ask you for a favor."

Lanny, who was in a meeting, received Jordan's call early in the morning. She gestured for her team members to stay put, then quickly went to the next office and solemnly replied, "Mr. Evans, please speak. I will do my best to cooperate if it's within my capabilities!"

Jordan explained his idea. Lanny tapped her fingers lightly on the table, pondering. "You want a communication device that can receive information from the Association at any time? Indeed, if some heroes with strong individual abilities were equipped with such a special communicator, the efficiency of dealing with mysterious beings would definitely improve... Okay, I'll report your suggestion to headquarters. For the time being, we can provide you with an internal wireless walkie-talkie from the Association. After connecting to a specific channel, it can transmit immediately no matter where a disaster occurs."

"Okay, that's fine."

"How can I deliver it to you?"

"No need. I'll come get it myself." Jordan's voice came through the receiver. "Are you at the branch office now? Which office?"

Lanny answered instinctively. "2801. I'm in my office."

"Then could you please open the door?"

Just as the blonde female executive was puzzled, a crisp knock came from outside her office door.

"Please come in."

"I apologize for disturbing you, Miss Lanny. It's been a while."

As the tall figure walked through the door, Lanny was so shocked her pupils dilated. The explosion-proof phone she was holding, which she hadn't hung up yet, slipped from her hand and fell toward the ground.

A giant hand appeared out of thin air, caught the falling phone, placed it back on the desk, and casually pressed the hang-up button to end the call that was no longer needed.

Half an hour later.

After being pulled aside by Lanny to update his ability data, Jordan was finally able to leave the Association's gate, now holding a custom-made personal walkie-talkie from the Hero Association.

The police station had similar equipment, so Jordan was no stranger to it.

He tuned the signal to the channel Lanny provided and put on the matching wireless headset. After a brief crackling sound, he heard staff voices reporting.

"...Images of what appears to be a Wolf-level mysterious being have been captured on mobile phones taken by citizens of D-City. Special personnel have been dispatched to confirm the location! The specific location is..."

"Traces of B-rank bounty criminal 'Hammerhead' have appeared in C-City. Requesting permission to dispatch a hero of B-rank or higher to investigate. Over!"

In an instant, a series of messages concerning disasters and criminals played through the headset. A satisfied look appeared on Jordan's face.

With such intelligence gathering capabilities, coupled with increasingly powerful disaster response capabilities due to the ever-growing number of heroes, it was no wonder the police couldn't compete with the Hero Association.

Let's start with the nearest city—D-City!

At the Z-City Hero Association branch, Lanny, who had access to surveillance footage, watched as Jordan disappeared from under the main gate camera. Her beautiful eyes gleamed. A certain thought in her heart gradually became firm.

For that project headquarters is currently preparing, we absolutely must recommend our ace esper, Mr. Jordan Evans!

Compared to 'Blast,' who completely disregards his hero status, our Z-City's 'Super Cop' is far more deserving of the top spot!

Having made her decision, Lanny swiftly pulled out her chair, her determined figure suggesting she was stepping onto her battlefield.

On her office computer desktop, she opened a Word document titled "Special Work Plan for Adding 'S-Class Sequence,'" and her hands flew across the keyboard, thus beginning a battle for the Association's civilian staff.
