"Reynold?"
"What are you doing here?" Asked Reynold with a stern and scary look on his face.
"I thought I told you not to come back here," he added.
"it's just... I had something. I had a case" Ben said, struggling to form a sentence.
"A case? How is a case more important than staying alive?" Reynold yells.
"It's... I..."
"I thought I made it very clear that you should leave and never look back," Reynold interrupts.
"Look Reynold, This case is really important to me, so just let me do what I want!"
"Let you? Do you think you even have a choice? I'm trying to keep you safe, to keep all of us safe and you coming back here is not helping at all. Do you think you're safe here hiding out with 013?"
"Don't call him that!" Ben replied, raising his tone slightly. "His name is Ares; and yes! I know I'm safe here"
"Why? Because you think he's your friend? You can't be friends with one of them you know where their loyalty lies"
"Friends? You've known Chase your whole life, and yet he still calls you 'master Reynold' does he not? He's being with you every step of the way and has been loyal to you and yet, you can't call him a friend"
"There's no time for friendships and you know that". Reynold says as he gestures with his finger pointed at Ben.
"Yeah, because you're too busy doing step mother's dirty work and being her favorite right hand man." Ben replies.
"I didn't choose those things; I never got a choice. You were all so young and I had to do everything I could to protect all of you even though it meant me losing myself in the process, I still did it anyway.
I traded everything to ensure the rest of you could live a normal life"
"This isn't about choices; it's about doing what needs to be done."
Ben is silent. His head is tilted downwards. Reynold looks at Ben who is now silent as calms himself and lowers his voice.
"Step mother already knows, she knew you had arrived the minute you stepped foot into this town."
"You've been able to avoid her so far but I don't know how long it'll last. You still have a chance you can lea-"
" I'm sorry but I can't, I can't leave. This case, it's really important to me and I know it may seem like I'm taking everything you're doing for granted but I just can't leave"
Reynold shakes his head in disappointment.
"Ben, what have you gotten yourself into? You really don't know how much danger you're in; you really don't" Reynold says as he backs away slowly.
"I hope whatever it is that brought you back here is important enough to make you trade your life for it. I've tried my best, but this is as far as I go". Reynolds says as he stomps out of the room through the front door.
Chase who has been standing there all this time looks up at Ben with a silence that seems to say so much.
Ben looks at him and then lowers his head down as Chase follows Reynold out of the house.
As they approach the car, they come across Ares who was just returning home from his outing.
Ares looks up at Reynold, but Reynold doesn't hold his gaze as he looks away immediately and walks past him. Chase soon follows.
Ares walks to the house to find Ben standing and looking down in a dejected manner.
"What happened here?" Ares asks with sheer concern.
"I don't want to talk about it" Ben says
"Well I do!" Ares replies as Ben stomps back to the bedroom and slams the door behind him.
