Chapter 53 - Chapter 53 — The Invitation from the Immortal Realm

Lin Tianren spent the better part of a day turning the Beast Queen's revelation over, unable to settle it into any shape that felt fully resolved.

*Did my parents know about the dragon sovereignty. If they knew, why did they never tell me. Or maybe — maybe they never actually knew either.*

He sat with the question longer than he expected to need. The version of events where his family had known exactly what they were protecting and simply chosen silence didn't sit right against what he actually remembered of that ancestral hall — the Patriarch's casual cruelty, Mu Yuhan's cold dismissal, none of it carrying the weight of people guarding a secret worth that much. If they'd genuinely understood what slept in their bloodline, surely something about that night would have looked different. Surely someone would have hesitated, even briefly, at the thought of throwing away something this valuable over a broken engagement.

He arrived at something closer to peace with it eventually. *Maybe my family didn't betray me. Maybe they never actually knew the truth either.* Passed down as tradition without explanation, generations removed from whoever had originally understood the reason behind the secrecy, until the reason itself had quietly disappeared somewhere along the way and only the habit of hiding remained.

It didn't undo what had happened to him. But it changed the shape of the anger he'd been carrying about it, softened something that had been sitting sharp in his chest since the night Var'Khal first explained why houses like his own existed to shelter bloodlines like his.

The stranger arrived at the sect's outer gate the following afternoon, and everything about the visit felt wrong before a single word had been exchanged.

His appearance carried nothing dramatic — simple robes, unremarkable features, the kind of presence that should have passed through the sect's outer courtyard without drawing attention. Instead, every elder within sight of him went rigid the moment he crossed the threshold. The Beast Queen's own composure sharpened into something Lin Tianren hadn't seen from her even during the worst of the siege.

The system flared with a reading unlike anything it had shown him before.

**[Unknown Individual Detected]**

**[Origin: Immortal Realm]**

**[Current World Authority: Unable to Analyze]**

*Unable to analyze.* The system had cataloged demon kings, tracked bloodline percentages down to fractions of a percent, quantified nearly everything he'd encountered since waking up in this body. It had never once simply failed to produce a number.

The stranger's eyes found him directly across the courtyard, unbothered by the sect's collective alarm.

"Lin Tianren," he said, voice carrying an ease that felt almost insulting given the reaction he'd caused simply by arriving. "I've come to offer you something."

"What kind of offer?" Lin Tianren asked, keeping his own voice level despite the unfamiliar weight pressing against his senses.

"A place in the Immortal Realm. In my sect, specifically, if you're willing to accept it."

He didn't take long to answer. "I'll go."

Something close to genuine surprise flickered across the visitor's face. "You've decided that quickly?"

"My bloodline is connected to something beyond this world," Lin Tianren said. "My system references a previous host with records I don't have permission to see. My enemies keep referencing an Emperor and a prophecy that both clearly originate somewhere I've never been. If the answers to all of that exist in the Immortal Realm, then that's where I need to actually go looking, rather than continuing to guess at fragments here."

It wasn't ambition driving the decision, and he made sure that came through clearly in how he said it. He'd spent enough of the last month reacting to threats he didn't fully understand. Going somewhere the answers might actually exist felt like the first genuinely proactive choice available to him since waking up in this body at all.

The stranger studied him a moment longer, something like approval settling into his expression before he bowed slightly and withdrew, promising further details would follow once preparations were properly in place.

Once he'd gone, the Beast Queen found Lin Tianren still standing in the courtyard, processing what had just happened.

"Sit," she said. "This deserves a proper explanation, not a hallway conversation."

She settled across from him, the fox curling up nearby, and began laying out something considerably larger than he'd fully appreciated until she started describing it.

"The Immortal Realm isn't simply a higher world stacked above this one," she said. "It's an entire civilization, with its own systems of cultivation, its own sects and ancient clans, its own sovereign-level cultivators who make everything you've fought so far look like a border skirmish by comparison. Beast territories considerably larger than mine. Demon territories that make Var'Khal's invasion look like a single scouting party. Ancient ruins holding records on dragon sovereignty that might actually explain what happened at 3.7 percent, if you can find the right ones and survive reading them."

He absorbed the scope of it slowly, understanding for the first time how small his last month's war had actually been against whatever scale she was describing.

"Here," she said, watching him carefully, "you're extraordinary, Lin Tianren."

She paused, letting the weight of what came next settle properly before continuing.

"There, you won't be."

The words landed harder than he expected. "What do you mean?"

"You'll find geniuses there who make your progress over the last month look ordinary. Monsters stronger than anything you've faced by margins you don't currently have a framework for imagining. And there will be people — plenty of them — who hear the words 'dragon sovereignty' and decide immediately that killing you is the safest response available to them."

"And the others?" he asked.

Her expression didn't soften. "Will want to recruit you instead, for exactly the same reason the ones who want you dead do. Power like yours doesn't get ignored anywhere, human world or immortal one. It only changes what people decide to do about noticing it."

That night, alone on what remained of the southern wall, Lin Tianren looked up at a sky considerably wider than the one he'd first understood this world to have.

Two mysteries sat in front of him now, distinct but clearly tangled together somewhere beneath the surface. A previous Dragon Sovereign who'd failed at 3.7 percent, for reasons the system itself wasn't permitted to explain to him yet. An entire Immortal Realm he'd never known existed until this afternoon, apparently holding whatever records might actually connect those two threads properly.

The system pulsed once, quiet and clear against the night.

**[New Main Objective]**

**[Enter the Immortal Realm]**

**[Requirement: Establish Sovereign Domain]**

He read it twice, something close to a real smile finally breaking through the exhaustion of the last few days.

"Seems like surviving thirty days was only the beginning," he said, to no one but the fox curled quietly beside him and the wide, unfamiliar sky stretching out above them both.

For the first time since waking up on cold marble a month ago, he looked past the world that had nearly killed him entirely, and saw an entire realm waiting patiently above it — one that had never once needed to know his name to already have opinions about what he was carrying.
