Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Escape

Sofia and Leila crouched behind the tree, their eyes fixed on Arin as he fought off the attackers. Sofia's heart was racing, her mind numb with fear. This was all too much. Leila's hand was on her arm, her voice urgent. "Princess, we need to go." Sofia nodded, her eyes scanning the clearing. They couldn't stay here, not with Arin fighting for their lives.

Leila pulled her up, and they ran, dodging trees and leaping over roots. The sound of fighting grew fainter, replaced by the pounding of their own hearts. They didn't stop until they were deep in the forest, the trees swallowing them whole. Sofia bent over, gasping for breath. "What..what now?" she panted. Leila's eyes were scanning the surroundings, her expression tense. "We need to find shelter, Princess. Somewhere safe."

Sofia nodded, her mind racing. They couldn't stay here, not without Arin. What if he didn't make it?

What if... She pushed the thoughts away, focusing on the present. They needed to find shelter, and fast. The forest was growing darker, the shadows deepening. Leila pointed, her voice low. "There, Princess. That cave.

"

Sofia followed her gaze, her eyes widening. It was a small opening in the rock face, partially hidden by foliage. They moved towards it, their eyes scanning the surroundings. The cave was dark, the air musty. Sofia's eyes adjusted slowly, her heart still pounding. They were safe, for now.

As they caught their breath, Sofia's mind turned to Arin. Had he made it? Was he... She pushed the thoughts away, focusing on the present. They needed to rest, to gather their strength. Leila's voice was soft. "Princess, you should rest." Sofia nodded, her eyes heavy. She knew Leila was right, but she couldn't shake the feeling that they weren't alone.
