Chapter 1 - Day 1

Dear Diary

It is the first time I'm writing in this diary. I'm a bit confused to be honest. My parents brought me this diary today, right when I was about to leave for Atemus Academy for "writing my experiences down and remembering that I was their son no matter what" or so they said. Well let me explain. Every year, whenever someone turns 16, they are given a simple glass orb, which is said to measure their chi, which often used power things in our world. In fact, chi is ever present, and everyone can use it, it's just some can use to to a larger extent and with more flexibility than others. Anyways, I got carried off there. As I was saying chi was pretty common place. People use it to speed up healing, grow better crops or even make flying boats in the sky! However, what was rare was seeing someone use chi to bend nature to their will. For example, conjuring fire out of nothing or freezing an entire lake just by channeling chi. These people were rare in that their powers can grow as they condense that chi, which also makes them stronger. And that is when the orb comes in handy. Some people aren't lucky enough to be that gifted( after all they were only 9 of these people present in my nearly 2500 people village), however others are unfortunate in that they don't show any signs of having the potential and thus get their potential wasted. What the orbs do is that they show your chi potential, which can pick outs these talents early on.

Now that's we're me going to Atemus Academy comes in. You see, the orb shines blue when you channel chi into it. The better you are at channeling chi, the brighter the orb will shine, and the less blue it will become. Now, most academies will accept any student who managed to make their orb shine. Of course, the brightness of the orb decides which school the person will go to, with the best being the Royal Academy in the capital city. However, being the country bumpkin that I was, it was already quite exciting to be one of the nine people going to an academy, despite the academies being ranked in the 50s.

As the academy blimp( which is what they called the flying boats) started drifting down, one could feel the immense pressure of the chi radiating downwards, trying to crush people to beneath. Luckily, before that could happen a ladder dropped down and a voice yelled( probably amplified by chi) boomed down: " All students of Atemus Academy please say your goodbyes quickly. The blimp will be leaving in 20 minutes and we will not wait for stragglers". It was quite the teary occasion, with many parents and kids hugging and crying. After all, it was quite a life changing experience. However, my parents were a bit more…dignified. My mom give me one last hug while my dad shook my hands and handed me a red diary with a golden strap. Without going into to much details I might've broken down slightly there.

After regaining my composure I stepped into the blimp and bade my parents a final goodbye before the blimp slowly rose until everyone became ants, then became sand in the beach, indistinguishable from each other, before the blimp did a final turn, and sped towards the setting sun.

I spare some of the details. It was the same as many schools I've gone to before. A headmaster giving a lengthy speech, all of us getting traumatized by the seniors and then getting our timetables and eating a quick dinner before we were separated into different dorm rooms. My dorm mates immediately ran out to socialize, leaving me the only one here writing in this diary. I don't quite know why I'm writing this, but I feel that, one day, I will look back and see my actions, if only to reminisce.
