Chapter 5 - The Council’s Fractured Awakening: chapter5

Part 1

The Council members awoke, each one still groggy from their forced slumber. The air around them felt thick and strange, not like the cold, sterile metal of the Vortex Ascendant, but something far more… confining. They were no longer in space, no longer drifting through galaxies, but in a room—an odd, windowless, high-tech chamber deep underground. The walls were sleek, almost too smooth, and the only light came from the faint blue glow of hidden panels.

Some of them stirred slowly, their heads heavy, their bodies weak. It took a moment for them to regain their bearings, but once they did, panic began to seep in.

Khera, the Goddess of Despair, sat up first, her senses prickling with unease. Her icy gaze shot to the walls, and she immediately tried to summon the chilling cold that usually obeyed her will. Nothing. No frost. No freezing aura.

"What is this place?" she muttered, her voice low but filled with dread.

Zaroth, the God of War, bolted up next, his massive frame shifting aggressively as his fists clenched. "This… is not our ship," he growled, scanning the unfamiliar space. His eyes darted toward Abyssion, who had also stirred, looking around, his tentacles twitching in confusion.

But then, like a terrible realization, Zaroth and Sable (who had only just begun to come to) both made the same grim discovery—they couldn't summon their powers. There was no violent surge of godly strength, no primal fury. Sable even tried to shift into his more monstrous form, but his body remained humanoid, his muscles tight, useless.

"It's a trap!" Sable bellowed, his voice tinged with panic. "We're not free!"

At that, Nautara, the Siren, began to claw at the walls, her fingers scraping the smooth surface. Her eyes were wide with terror, her normally controlled demeanor shattering. "What is this? We're trapped! They've taken everything from us!"

Beira, the Frozen Queen, froze completely for a moment, her cold exterior becoming more pronounced as the terror seeped in. "No… no, this is a mistake. We're being imprisoned again," she whispered, her voice a chilling reflection of her dread. "They can't do this! I will not go back there!"

The panic was palpable now—Abyssion's strategic mind raced, but he couldn't even tap into his abilities to make sense of the situation. The usual cool and calculated tactician was now visibly agitated, his sharp eyes darting about the room, seeking an escape.

The Panic Spreads

part2

Khera's words were cutting through the growing hysteria, her voice laced with deep anxiety. "This is it. They're going to send us back… to the Blank Zone. We're never getting out of here!" She clenched her fists, her despair consuming her for a moment.

Suddenly, Elias, the human leader, bolted upright, his eyes wild. His body was weak, but his sharp mind had already caught on to the problem. He pounded on the wall, his panic rising. "No! This isn't how it ends! We can't go back to that hell! We can't be trapped!"

But no matter how hard they hit, kicked, or clawed at the walls, they couldn't break through. They tried to use their abilities again—each Council member desperate to summon their power, but the room itself seemed to damp their abilities. It was as though the very walls, floor, and ceiling were absorbing any attempt to exert their will.

"What is this place?" Elias panted, his voice cracking as he realized the cold truth: They were powerless.

Councilman 2 & 4's Intervention

part3

Amid the rising hysteria, two figures stood apart from the chaos. Councilman 2, Nautara, and Councilman 4, Abyssion, remained unusually calm despite the situation. Their eyes met briefly, and then Abyssion spoke, his voice firm but not without an edge of frustration.

"Stop. All of you, stop panicking."

His words cut through the rising noise, drawing the attention of the rest of the Council, but their fear didn't immediately abate.

"What do you mean, 'stop'?" Zaroth growled, taking a threatening step toward Abyssion, his fury uncontained. "We're trapped, we can't use our powers, and you want us to just sit here and 'stop'?"

"Yes." Abyssion didn't flinch. He was a master of calm in the storm, but even his patience was beginning to fray. "We're not trapped. We're healing."

Tension Rising

part4

Healing?" Sable snapped, his teeth bared in an animalistic snarl. "Healing? How do you know that? How do you know we're not going to be sent back to that wretched prison, that blank void?!"

"Calm down," Nautara said sharply, her voice cutting through the panic, though her own fear still lingered beneath the surface. "We have been in worse situations before."

"No, this is different," Beira retorted, her voice rising with desperation. "We have no powers. No control. We're being watched, and there's no escape!"

"You think I don't know that?" Abyssion's voice turned dark, his patience running out. "But you don't understand. We've been here before, we've been trapped in this kind of place before. This is not some random holding cell. This is different."

"What do you mean, 'different'?" Zaroth demanded, his arms crossed, glaring at Abyssion. "You've been here before? How do you know?"

A brief, uncomfortable silence filled the room, and then Councilman 4, Abyssion, looked up, his expression hardening. He spoke slowly, the weight of his words heavy in the stillness.

"Fifteen years ago, I worked with this woman. She's different from anyone you've ever met." His gaze turned to the door, as if he could see the one they were waiting for. "We saved a universe together. I trust her. She's the one who's been helping us. She's why we're here."

The rest of the Council turned their attention to Abyssion, their confusion evident. "You trust her?" Khera asked, her voice a mix of disbelief and concern. "How do you know she's not working for them?"

"I don't know how," Abyssion's voice grew more strained, defensive. "But I do know her. She's not our enemy."

A Moment of Truth.

Just as Zaroth was about to respond, Nautara's voice cut in sharply. "Enough!" she shouted. "We don't have time to argue. We've all been trapped, we've all fought battles where our trust was tested. But right now, we need to stay calm. And believe."

The room fell silent again. Every one of them was staring at Abyssion and Nautara, each member's anxiety simmering just beneath the surface.

After a long pause, Elias stood, looking at each of them with a strained but resolute expression.

"We're not going back there," he said, his voice steady, though his body was still trembling slightly from the fear. "Whatever happens, we'll figure this out. But we have to trust them… at least for now."

There was a collective pause in the air as everyone processed his words. The tension didn't fully dissipate, but the immediate panic calmed for the moment.

And then, as if on cue, the door slid open.

You can stop worrying now," the Butler entered, his voice calm and confident, stepping in with his usual collected grace. "She's stable. She's going to be fine. The healing process is underway."

The Council members stared at him, suspicion and lingering anxiety still hanging in the air. "Healing?" Zaroth growled. "Who is she? Why should we trust you?"

The Butler only gave a slight, knowing smile. "Because this woman," he said, pausing for dramatic effect, "is the reason you're all still alive."

The silence that followed was heavy, the question lingering in the air: Who exactly had they put their trust in?

The pieces were slowly falling into place, but even the Council knew one thing—whatever awaited them next, they would need to be ready.
