Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Supermarket Excitement

"Ha, it's actually a large supermarket! If we can get in, it would be so much fun!" Hu Laoda stood on a collapsed wall, his eyes shining as he looked at a large warehouse supermarket in front of him, where the dusty sign faintly showed the words Walmart.

"The place is good, but we need to be able to get in. There are at least seven or eight hundred zombies outside; how do we get past them?" Jack turned to Hu Laoda and said.

"Uh?" Hu Laoda was taken aback, then laughed and said, "Hehe, man, what do you think we should do? We'll follow your lead; you must have a way, right?"

"There is a way, but it's just to charge straight in!" Jack said calmly as he put down the binoculars he was holding.

"Charge straight in?" Cao Mei and the others were all taken aback.

Hu Laoda laughed and said, "Man, this is no joke. Although this is already semi-suburban and the population isn't that dense, just the thousands of zombies in front of us could take our lives. And if we make too much noise, the zombies around here will come over too. At that time, we'll be in big trouble!"

"I've already told you the plan; whether you dare to follow is up to you!" After saying this, Jack put away the monocular telescope and stepped forward. Hu Laoda was momentarily stunned, hesitating in place, while A Xue was indifferent. She had said before that even if Jack led her to hell, she would jump in without hesitation. As for Cao Mei, she merely raised her eyebrows provocatively at Hu Laoda and followed Jack forward.

"Come on, what's there to be afraid of? What's there to be scared of?" Seeing the three of them walking further away, Hu Laoda spat on the ground fiercely and hurried to catch up.

As they got closer to the supermarket, they were about five or six hundred meters away when they could no longer move. There were too many living corpses around; if one of them spotted them, it would trigger a series of chain reactions. Just thinking about facing thousands of living corpses attacking made one's scalp tingle.

"What should we do? We can't go any further; it'll be a big problem if we do. You're not really planning to rush over, are you?" Hu Laoda leaned against a flipped Jeep Commander next to Jack, his once fierce face now pale, and his tone was anxious and helpless.

Jack didn't look at Hu Laoda; he just kicked the lazy Mikael at his feet and said, "Let's go!"

Mikael rolled his eyes and shook his head, seemingly reluctant to move forward. As he walked, he muttered softly, "I knew you'd boss me around. I'm still just a puppy, you know? I haven't even lost my virginity yet!"

Although Mikael's voice was not loud, it was heard by Hu Laoda nearby. Hu Laoda, with a look of shock, pointed at Mikael and exclaimed, "It's talking! It actually talked!"

Hu Laoda turned his head excitedly, gesturing wildly to express his astonishment, but when he saw Cao Mei looking at him with disdain, his enthusiasm deflated. He weakly said, "Okay, I must be too tense and hearing things!"

A Xue exchanged a smile with Jack, not bothering to explain. They saw the lethargic Mikael had already walked into the square ahead, where a few slightly more alert living corpses had noticed him and were roaring as they lunged toward the sluggish Mikael. A hint of disdain seemed to flash across Mikael's face as he shook his head and barked twice. At his bark, most of the living corpses in the square turned to look at him simultaneously.

There were quite a few living corpses in the square, at least four or five hundred. After a whole year of exposure to the elements, most of the living corpses were naked, in a pitiful state, and their shriveled, dark bodies moved like mummies across the square. Living corpses indeed lived up to their name!

For a long time, the zombies finally saw a living, breathing creature, oozing with hot, fresh blood. They were all excited as if they had collectively taken drugs, howling and roaring, charging with all their might towards Michael in the center of the square. They craved the hot, fresh blood even more, and they desired tender flesh, and Michael was undoubtedly a big piece of tender meat!

But what kind of dog is Michael? It is definitely not a common countryside mutt, like those Chinese rural dogs. It would never sit there helplessly, waiting to be slaughtered; it is a three-headed hellhound, a proud three-headed dog. Although it was born a bit strange, with one less head than an ordinary three-headed dog, its pure bloodline is beyond doubt. Therefore, it is noble and proud. In its own words, although its body is that of a dog, its incomparable inner self has long transcended the category of dogs, possessing a noble soul that is hard for humans to match.

At this moment, the noble three-headed dog Michael lazily jumped onto a collapsed large billboard. It couldn't be bothered to compete with those lowly living corpses; waiting for them to tire was the best strategy. The billboard beneath it wasn't high, just enough to keep the living corpses from reaching it. Michael lay on top, bored, scratching its neck with its hind paw, watching the group of corpses below, each with their mouths wide open like Thomas but unable to jump up. It couldn't help but wonder how its heartless master could bear to make it do such dirty and exhausting work. Although its master's soul was as noble as its own, he was too cruel!

Not far away, Jack had no idea what absurd thoughts were running through his silly dog's mind. Seeing that most of the living corpses in the square were attracted by Michael, Jack waved to Axue and the others, whispering, "Stay close to me!"

Boss Hu had never thought that entering a large supermarket would be so easy. Why hadn't he thought of this method before? Although he didn't have a dog, he had people. Sacrificing one or two people could exchange for supplies from a supermarket; this business was simply too profitable. Thinking about it, it was entirely possible to make a comeback using this method in the future, and Boss Hu felt an indescribable excitement in his heart.

"..."

Jack raised his gun and shot off the lock on a fire escape door. With a strong pull on the handle, the door opened. Although the gunshot attracted the attention of several scattered living corpses, Jack and the others quickly slipped into the supermarket, taking the steel fire door with them.

Following the escape route deeper inside, the originally dim environment suddenly brightened when Jack opened a door. Although the power was long gone, it was daytime, and sunlight poured in through the glass roof, illuminating the interior of the supermarket brilliantly.

Probably at the moment the virus outbreak occurred, the supermarket activated its emergency plan, treating virus prevention like fire prevention. Not only did the rolling shutters on the several large doors at the entrance come down, but even the fire shutters inside the supermarket were lowered. As a result, the supermarket was immediately divided into many spaces of varying sizes. Even if there were living corpses, as long as the heavy rolling shutters remained closed, they couldn't move between the sections.

"Not bad luck, there aren't many living corpses inside!" Jack holstered his gun, happily whistling and surveying his surroundings.

Hearing Jack's words, Boss Hu, who was just about to pounce on a tobacco and alcohol counter, abruptly stopped in his tracks and turned to look at Jack, puzzled, and asked, "What do you mean there aren't many living corpses? I don't see any living corpses around!"

"Hmph~ What are you thinking?" Cao Mei casually picked up a wine bottle and smashed it against a glass counter in a shop, shattering it with a loud crash. Several axes of different colors immediately fell to the ground. This was a store selling mountaineering equipment, filled with various climbing gear. Cao Mei picked up an axe that was slightly shorter than a fire axe, weighed it in her hand, and turned to the furious Hu Laoda, saying, "In such a big supermarket, do you really think it's possible there are no living corpses inside?"

"Maybe when the virus broke out, they evacuated everyone!" Hu Laoda argued, his eyes wide.

"What about the security guards? The staff on duty? The virus outbreak happened in the afternoon. Even if the customers were all evacuated, there were still plenty of staff inside. Hmph, don't say I didn't warn you. If you're not careful, there might be one or two female living corpses hiding behind the bar. Just one touch, and you can say goodbye to this world!" Cao Mei casually slung the axe over her shoulder and said with a cold smile.

"You…" Hu Laoda was stunned by Cao Mei's words, wanting to get angry but not knowing how to start.

"Cao Mei is right. There are definitely no fewer than a hundred living corpses in here. It's better for everyone to be cautious!" Jack stepped into the mountaineering store, picked up a black short-handled axe marked with the JEEP logo from the ground, and handed it to Cao Mei, saying, "That axe is too heavy for you. You can't handle it. Use this smaller one!"

"Okay!" Cao Mei unhesitatingly threw away the long axe on her shoulder and happily accepted the axe Jack handed her.

"A-Xue, you should also pick a few weapons for self-defense. You're weaker, so it's best to take an axe like Cao Mei!" Jack turned to A-Xue, who was following closely behind.

"Oh!" A-Xue nodded obediently and began to select weapons inside the store.
