Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Survivors

...It hurts, it really hurts!

"Ugh..." Jack felt as if his whole body had fallen apart, and even with his strong will, he couldn't help but let out a groan.

Slowly opening his eyelids, which felt as heavy as a thousand pounds, the first thing that came into view was not anything else but a huge dog head, covered in scabs of boiling hot blood. A long dog tongue was happily licking Jack's face, making a continuous "slurp slurp" sound.

"Get away, Michael, your breath stinks!" Jack weakly pushed away the hellhound, which now only had a head left, and forced himself to sit up despite the pain all over his body. He felt like there were thirty helicopters taking off in his head, making him dizzy.

"What time is it, Michael?" Jack touched his head, unsure if he had injured his brain, and actually asked the dog beside him.

"It seems to be almost noon!" An unbelievable thing happened; this dog actually spoke human language, and with a genuine Texan accent. It licked the drool from the side of its mouth, patted its belly in a very human-like manner, and said, "Master, I'm so hungry, I want to go get something to eat first!"

Jack fished out a few crimson capsules from his pocket, raised his head, and swallowed them. Shaking his head, he said, "It tastes so damn bad... Are you okay without one head?"

The red hunting dog named Michael raised a hind paw as thick as an adult's arm and scratched the spot where the other head used to be. Looking a bit confused, it shook its head and said with a full expression, "It seems there's no problem; I'm doing just fine! It's just that I might lose a bit of an advantage in battles from now on!"

"You're doing just fine? I thought you were dead last night!" Jack gently rubbed his abdomen and said in confusion.

"Haha~ That was a feigned death, wasn't it what you taught me? That fucking skinner had me pinned down, and I could only take the beating. If I didn't sacrifice a bit and pretend to be dead, those little bastards would definitely kill me!" Michael said proudly, wagging his tail, truly looking like a human in dog form.

Having seemingly gotten used to Michael's arrogance, Jack shook his head helplessly, looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings, and frowned as he asked, "Where is this? Has the zombie tide passed?"

"Roar~ Master, if you hadn't mentioned it, I would have almost forgotten! The corpse tide those little rascals attracted last night was really fierce. If I hadn't carried you and fled for our lives, both of us would have become fertilizer in this jungle by now!" Michael proudly wagged his tail, but then curiously said, "However, Master, I find it strange. Why don't those living corpses bite those bloodsuckers? They all walk around them as if they're afraid of stepping in dog poop!"

"I'm not sure either!" Jack slowly shook his head, which was exactly what puzzled him. Last night, those blood clan members walked calmly among the corpses, not only were they not attacked by any of the living dead, but they also provoked a massive frenzy of living corpses attacking them.

"By the way, Master, I found something good on the incomplete body of Glass; it should be our mission target this time!" Michael's eyes suddenly lit up, and with a joyful expression, he spat out a shiny gold watch. However, his dog face immediately turned red, and he shyly said, "No, no, this is the right one, hehe~ Glass is dead, so his gold watch shouldn't go to waste!"

As he spoke, Michael spat out a shiny silver metal piece, holding it in his mouth and smiling as he presented it to Jack. Jack frowned as he took it, carefully examining the metal piece. It was square and about the size of a delicate Rubik's cube, but there were no seams on it; instead, it was covered in intricate black mysterious patterns, resembling some kind of tribal totem.

Jack held the box in his hand and studied it for a long time but couldn't figure it out. Meanwhile, Michael eagerly said, "Master, I'm starving; can I go get something to eat?"

"Go ahead! I still need to rest a bit to absorb the medicine's effects, but don't wander too far; I currently have no ability to protect myself!" Jack said, then put the box into his pocket and casually leaned against a big tree to close his eyes and rest.

Michael excitedly dashed out with a whoosh, and before long, a commotion erupted in the forest, with the angry roars of wild beasts echoing. Half an hour later, Michael actually returned dragging a brown bear that was two to three meters tall, but the scariest part was that the bear seemed to have only been knocked out, still exhaling hot breath.

Jack opened one eye and saw that Michael had dragged back an entire bear, immediately scolding, "You little rascal, I told you to go hunting, and you brought back a bear! Can you even eat that?"

Michael let go of the bear paw that made Jack drool and turned around, saying aggrievedly, "I just thought you were injured and wanted to get something good for you to recover. Bear bile can cure all diseases; otherwise, why would I go through so much trouble to get such a big guy? You have to understand me, Master!"

Jack immediately rolled his eyes dramatically and said with disdain, "Don't make yourself sound so righteous. I know you too well. Before we even got to Alaska, you were already asking me if there were bears here. Isn't it because you wanted to eat bear paws yourself?"

Michael, having his little secret exposed by Jack, could only grin foolishly and say, "Hehe, isn't it all the same? Master, you eat bear bile, and I eat bear paws; we share the blessings as master and servant!"

"Stop being so damn righteous, okay, okay, I'll rest for a while and you can deal with the bear." Jack cursed helplessly, and had no choice but to close his eyes and rest.

"Haha, fresh bear paws are roasted alive." Michael cheered, pounced on him and bit off the main artery on the brown bear's neck with one bite. However, the fainted brown bear only twitched a few times and died without even humming.

Michael, who had a mouth full of hot blood, raised his head and took a deep breath. His originally dry belly immediately swelled several times in size. A red flame more than two meters long came out of Thomas's mouth. The flames covered the whole body of the brown bear almost instantly. In just a moment, bursts of the aroma of barbecue emitted from the mutilated corpse of the brown bear.

More than an hour later, one person and one dog had a delicious meal, and the pills Jack swallowed before were obviously medicine that can cure injuries. Now Jack can move freely, but he is still relatively weak.

Unable to bury the remains of his comrades with his own hands, Jack could only take out three cigarettes, light them, and stick them in the sand. He suppressed the grief in his heart and bowed three times in the direction of where they happened last night.

"Huh..." Michael burped loudly, walked up unsteadily, picked his teeth with the tip of a shiny claw on his dog's paw, and asked lazily, "What should we do now?"

Jack took out the military GPS he carried with him and tried it. Fortunately, it was not damaged in the battle. After a little identification of the direction, he said, "Let's go fifty kilometers to the west. Someone will come to pick us up there."

"Oh my God, my god, there are still fifty kilometers. Don't you know that my thin arms and legs are the most afraid of walking?" Although Michael was unwilling, he had no choice but to follow Jack with his huge belly that was made by eating half a bear. He didn't want to stay in the deep mountains and forests of Fuck and become a wild dog from hell, even if there were delicious bear paws here.

...

"Master, can we not stay in that hellish place in Texas this time? Then we can find a big house and raise hundreds of female poodles. Well, actually I also like golden retrievers. Although their bloodline is not that good, they don't have the cold arrogance of VIPs. But I don't want St. Bernards. I don't like big fat people. I like hot ones. Hehe~ Master, why don't you find some beautiful women for me..."

Michael had been following Jack for several hours, talking to himself like a machine gun without stopping. Fortunately, Jack had long since gotten used to it and didn't pay any attention to him, not even a word. However, suddenly, just as Michael was getting into the swing of things, he stopped talking and simply stood there, shaking his ears continuously.

"What's wrong?" Jack also stopped and looked at him, knowing that the only things that could make him shut up, aside from food and bitches, were enemies.

"There's a helicopter that just landed about fifteen kilometers ahead, but it's unclear how many people are there!" Michael said seriously, tilting his head.

Since his watch was broken during the fight, Jack looked up at the sky and estimated the time in his mind, saying, "It seems like it's people coming to pick us up, but how could they be five hours early... Never mind, Michael, stop rambling and keep an eye on the surroundings!"

Michael nodded and said with a grin, "Don't worry, I've got this. Even if a fly passes by us, I'll tell you whether it's male or female!"
