Chapter 9 - Soul Art [3]

Fauslis, the goddess of Dawnglow, is the founder of the Dawnglow Church, the creator of the Root Soul Art [Holy Envoy], one of the ancient sages, and the inheritor of the [Blessed Angel] bloodline.

Among the many others, some became widely known after they proclaimed themselves as sages, while Fauslis's name was spread by others.

She was called the Goddess of Dawnglow because the continent of Tyrelis was suffering from plague and war at that time. The sick and wounded could only lie in bed and wait to die. The continent was swept up in despair and was lifeless.

[Goddess of Dawnglow] Fauslis, out of compassion for all living beings, generously contributed the Root Soul Art [Holy Envoy] she created, teaching it free of charge to all who could learn it. After that, the first healing-type Soul Art appeared on the continent.

This is what distinguishes Fauslis from other sages. Most other sage keep their Root Soul Arts hidden or only teach them to their loyal subordinates. Only Fauslis generously imparted all her knowledge without reservation.

As the strongest healing soul art in the past and present, the [Holy Envoy] has saved countless lives. Even today, is still remains the only healing soul art in the human kingdom and is still regarded as the "Dawnglow's Greatest Treasure" by the Dawnglow Church.

This is also the significance of the Dawnglow Church's existence. Now, the [Holy Envoy] has become the Church's exclusive soul art, and only those who join the Church are allowed to absorb and learn the [Holy Envoy].

Interestingly, despite being a direct descendant of Fauslis, Wensley is unable to learn the [Holy Envoy] skill because the [Holy Envoy] skill requires a four-star aptitude, while he only has one star.

Aside from his aversion to the Papacy, Wensley may have thought of this as well. He couldn't accept the fact that he, as a descendant of the Goddess of Dawnglow, couldn't even absorb thef [Holy Envoy]. He was afraid of being ridiculed and dared not contact the Papacy.

It's worth mentioning that Fauslis has an illustration in the game "Citrus Crown". She is a beautiful girl with light cherry blossom hair and pink heart-shaped eyes. Her gentle smile is like a healing breeze, yet she is also charming and alluring.

In the illustration, she wears a flawless white lace dress and white knee-high boots, perfectly embodying the image of a compassionate and holy angel girl.

Wensley, who had seen Fauslis's character art, felt quite disappointed that she wasn't one of the romanceable characters.

In "Citrus Crown", all the female characters are stunning beauties, but they are still slightly inferior to the heroine, Aisiefis. Only Fauslis is equally beautiful as Aisiefis in terms of both figure and looks. In fact, in Wensley's opinion, Fauslis is more to his liking.

Unfortunately, there's no way to romance the character; Fauslis died over a thousand years ago in the backstory.

Wensley couldn't understand why the production team would specially draw a character portrait for someone who had been dead for thousands of years.

As Wensley approached the statue of Fauslis, he looked up at it.

He came here not simply to pay homage to the statues of his ancestors, but because he had another idea.

After a day of trying, he felt he had a pretty good grasp of the mechanism of Merit.

If doing good deeds brings Merit, then how can praying to the Goddess in church not be considered a good deed?

If prayer could bring Merit, why would he bother spending money? He could just pray to his ancestors!

Begin the prayer!

So Wensley stood before the statue, clasped his hands together, and bowed his head in silence.

During this time, many Dawnglow officials passed by and saw Wensley praying devoutly. Some recognized him and all looked incredulous. Their expressions varied, and many of them were sarcastic.

In just one day, Wensley's clownish behavior at the royal banquet became known throughout the city. Moreover, the scandal was spreading outwards, reaching outside the kingdom.

After all, the stupid things this guy usually does are too unpredictable, and Mirecia's suitors are happy to see things escalate, and even secretly fan the flames.

Wensley was a notorious playboy in the capital, so disliked that he was like a rat in the street. Even dogs would hold their noses and walk away from him. He had no self-awareness and was crazy about pursuing the kingdom's most dazzling jewel. Whenever possible, everyone was happy to step on him and spread rumors about him.

Coupled with numerous rumors that Wensley was a fraudulent descendant of a goddess who had deceived the world, most of the Dawnglow personnel harbored deep resentment towards him.

"This good-for-nothing cripple must have suffered too much trauma; he's even come to the Church to worship the goddess," some clergy members muttered under their breath.

"Shhh, keep your voice down, don't let anyone hear us."

"So what if he hears us? Right now, the whole capital is condemning this mad dog who doesn't know his own limitations. What can he do to me?"

"Hey, don't say that~ No matter what, he always claims to be a descendant of the Goddess Dawnglow, right? Hahaha."

"A descendant of a goddess? Tsk, you actually believe he's a descendant of a goddess? Isn't that a long-standing claim?"

"Everyone's saying, how could the goddess's blessing suddenly disappear? It's likely that the real Fauslis—no, the real Fauce family has actually died out, which gave that shameless and despicable little clan the opportunity to impersonate her!"

"Look at him. Everyone knows that the Fauslis clan are all beauties of unparalleled grace, with hair and eye colors like goddesses: light cherry blossom hair and pink peach eyes. And him? He's plain-looking, and his hair is light blue. Fauslis? Doesn't he even know if he deserves that surname?"

Wensley ignored the slander and insults from those around him; he was too busy to care what these irrelevant people were saying.

At this moment, he had only one thought in his mind: My Beautiful Ancestor! Hurry up and give me some Merit!

The clergy members were discussing things without restraint, in what they thought were quiet voices.

Even if he's loud, it doesn't matter. Wensley, that awful guy, is now a rat crossing the street, hated by everyone.

However, what they didn't know was that while Wensley was oblivious, someone else had witnessed the entire scene.

"Please excuse my rudeness, Your Highness." At this moment, the Dawnglow Archbishop of the capital city followed Mirecia's gaze and looked at the scene in the church courtyard with an embarrassed expression, clutching the porcelain teacup in his hand tightly.

"The way your church's clergy greet the faithful is truly unique," Mirecia, dressed in a gorgeous lotus-petal-embroidered gown, said softly, ignoring the priest beside her.

With blonde hair, blue eyes, and skin as white as snow, her thin, golden eyelashes shimmered with light. Her noble and aloof demeanor made her seem like a jewel adorning a crown.

She arched her slender, long legs, which were encased in white over-the-knee stockings and looked as smooth as ice cream. The lotus-leaf-hemmed tie-up dress could not completely conceal her ample valley. Her dazzling golden hair, as bright as the sun, was tied into twin ponytails that flowed down to her thighs like overflowing gold with a dark blue butterfly hair clip.

The princess held a tea tray in her hand, took a small sip of tea, and stared coldly at the two clergymen below, as well as Wensley, who clearly heard them talking but completely ignored them.

"Uh, well." The Archbishop was quite embarrassed. Today was the important day that Princess Mirecia was visiting the church, and this had happened.

The Archbishop remembered that he had just praised Her Highness the selection process for being a clergy, highlighting its rigor, strictness, emphasis on etiquette, and high moral character...

Now it seems like a slap in the face to his old age.

Mirecia's words were elegant and aloof, as always, without any hint of mockery or accusation, yet they sounded like sarcastic remarks to the ears.

Perhaps this is the art of speech among royalty; their choice of words and tone convey no personal feelings, yet the emotions seemed to be expressed perfectly.

"No offense intended, I'm just curious, do your church's clergy greet other believers in the same way?"

"This, this... Your Highness, please forgive my rudeness. I will definitely strengthen my discipline in the future. As for these two, I will deal with them today." Upon hearing this, the Archbishop was drenched in sweat.

That's right, the Peony royal family can't interfere in the internal affairs of the Papacy, but as the first in line to the kingdom's throne, Mirecia could easily send a letter to the Pope, offering her greetings while subtly hinting at something. Wouldn't he be replaced on the spot?

Mirecia remained silent, simply turning her gaze to Wensley, who was praying before the statue, and taking a sip of tea.

It is truly rare for that spoiled brat to appear in the Church.

She thought that after being rejected at the banquet, given Wensley's personality, she wouldn't see him for a while.

What is he up to this time?

Mirecia couldn't figure it out for a while.
