Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

If Leon had to describe his life in a single word, it would be "roller coaster."

Wild highs. Brutal drops.

He had won the jackpot in his previous life—only to be hit by a car shortly afterward. Just when he thought everything was over, he woke up again… reincarnated into a world that looked suspiciously like the setting of Jujutsu Kaisen.

And not just anywhere.

He had been born as Kamo Notsuna, the legitimate son of the prestigious Kamo clan—one of the oldest sorcerer families in Japan. In a society where lineage meant everything, that status should have guaranteed a brilliant future.

Except there was one problem.

The Kamo clan valued Cursed Techniques above all else. Talent determined everything—status, respect, inheritance. Whether someone was born legitimate or not meant nothing if they failed to awaken a technique. Those without cursed potential were treated as expendable, little better than outsiders.

And Notsuna… had none.

Cursed Techniques usually manifested between the ages of six and eight. Until that moment arrived, he had lived as the honored heir. Once the results were clear, however, everything changed overnight.

His parents—the clan head and the main wife—made their decision without hesitation.

The child of a secondary branch, Kamo Kenji, who possessed strong cursed potential, would become the new legitimate heir. Meanwhile, Kamo Notsuna would quietly lose his position and fade into the background. Official announcements were carefully managed, internal rumors redirected, reputations reshaped—everything done to maintain the clan's "stability."

The message was simple: talent mattered, nothing else.

What they didn't expect was Notsuna's reaction.

Instead of fighting for his status, he voluntarily requested to leave.

"If I don't have the ability to inherit the clan's techniques," he had said calmly, "then there's no reason for me to stay. Let me live as an ordinary person."

To the clan elders, that was convenient. Erasing him entirely meant fewer future complications. And so, after signing a binding sorcerer contract that required him to live in a designated region under quiet observation for several years, he departed the Kamo estate alongside Kamo Mayumi, the woman who would become his mother in name and in truth.

For Leon—the reincarnated soul now living as Notsuna—it was exactly what he wanted.

Why remain in a place where power decided your worth? The outside world was vast. Even without cursed techniques, he had believed he could still carve out a good life.

What he hadn't predicted… was the system awakening shortly after.

The Pokémon Trainer System.

It arrived with a beginner package and a single Pokémon Egg. When the egg hatched, the small Psychic-type Pokémon Ralts emerged—eventually evolving into the Gardevoir who now stood at his side.

Back then, Leon had nearly laughed himself sick from excitement. If fate wanted to play games, then fine—he would play better.

Eight years passed in quiet preparation. Under Leon's careful training, Ralts had grown into a powerful Gardevoir, strong enough that very few threats below special grade could endanger them. The observation period had ended, and the time to remain hidden was over.

It was time to step into the world.

Not using the advantage of foreknowledge would be a waste. Having a Trainer System but raising only one Pokémon would be an even greater waste.

Leon stood, taking his mother's hand with one hand and Gardevoir's with the other.

"Mom, you've endured enough for these past eight years. From now on, you don't have to hold back anymore. Let's move forward—to somewhere better."

Kamo Mayumi didn't answer immediately. After a long silence, she asked softly, "If I stay here, or if I return to Haruto… what do you want?"

"It doesn't change anything for me," Leon replied. "If you stay, I'll take care of you. If you return, you're still my mother. I'll just visit more often. And if Haruto has any complaints, I'll deal with him myself."

Mayumi stared at him for a moment—then finally smiled.

"You really have grown up. If you want to leave, then let's leave. This place has become far too quiet anyway."

Leon's face lit up. He lifted her slightly off the ground in excitement.

"Tokyo, here we come."

A wider world. More Pokémon. Greater opportunities.

And most importantly, a chance to prove that this second life wouldn't be wasted.

Mayumi immediately smacked the back of his head. "Don't get carried away. And another thing—starting today, you and Gardevoir sleep in separate rooms."

Leon blinked. "What?"

"Both of you are grown now. It's inappropriate otherwise," she said matter-of-factly. "Or are you planning to start a family already?"

Leon froze.

Humans and Pokémon were biologically incompatible, weren't they?

He instinctively glanced at Gardevoir, only to find her looking back at him with wide, innocent eyes full of confusion.

Leon slapped his own forehead.

Get your thoughts together. She's only eight years old. What are you even thinking?

Tokyo awaited—and with it, the real beginning of his second life.
