Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: A Gift for Lumine

"Isn't Amber's weapon a bow?"

Paimon tilted her head, a little confused.

"Since they are standard issue weapons, of course there are other weapon types with the same Favonius prefix. The way to obtain them is the same for all of them."

Amber huffed. "I still do not have a Favonius Warbow, you know."

"So that means this sword is really valuable?"

Paimon's excitement spiked again.

The more expensive something was, the more she loved it.

"Of course it is precious. Aside from its excellent quality, it represents recognition from both the Knights of Favonius and the Church. That is exactly what I have been striving toward."

If she could one day obtain a Favonius series weapon of her own, would that not mean she had already become a true, fully fledged knight?

Amber muttered that to herself in her heart.

"Jensen, is this not... too much?"

Lumine looked at him hesitantly.

Jensen shook his head. "I believe that sooner or later, Lumine, you will earn the acknowledgment of Mondstadt's people, the Knights, and the Church. I am just giving you something a bit earlier than scheduled."

There was a quiet encouragement in his tone.

"Exactly, exactly!"

Paimon was afraid Lumine might turn it down and hurried to back him up. "And when you get another one someday, I can keep that one in my collection, hehe..."

"You said the quiet part out loud," Lumine complained at her.

"This little Paimon, she is not secretly related to a legendary dragon or something, right?" Amber was utterly speechless.

"Then I will accept it."

A faint smile surfaced on Lumine's face.

She took the Favonius Sword and gave it a few experimental swings. It felt perfectly balanced in her hand... she liked it immediately, and very quickly became reluctant to put it down.

"There are also some basic artifacts in the chest. For a new adventurer, they are very suitable."

Jensen spoke up again.

"Artifacts?"

Lumine peered into the chest in confusion.

Inside were a glowing feather, a pocket watch, a small goblet, a circlet, and a vividly crafted flower.

The auras of the five artifacts flowed together, forming a strange, complete circuit.

A full set...

"These items contain mysterious power. For someone who can use elemental energy, they enhance your strength and protect you as well."

"If you can put together pieces from the same set, they can even trigger their own latent effects."

Jensen explained, "This set, Adventurer, is one of the most beloved artifact sets among adventurers across Teyvat."

"Alright."

Lumine carefully placed four of the artifacts close to her person, then took the last piece, the Flower of Life, and pinned it to the side of her hair.

"Thank you."

Her fingers brushed lightly over the blossom at her temple.

The unease she had carried ever since falling into this world, losing both her blood relative and her strength, finally calmed for the first time.

"Really makes a girl jealous," Amber said, a little sour. "A full Adventurer set like that is not cheap at the Adventurers' Guild, and you still need a certain amount of contribution points to even be allowed to buy it. We Knights of Favonius do not really get a chance at those."

Jensen had just given the whole set to Lumine. With equipment that valuable, she did not think there would be a second full set coming her way.

That promise earlier about giving her gear too... maybe that had just been politeness.

"Why?" Lumine asked.

"The Adventurers' Guild is basically a mercenary organization. We Knights of Favonius are an official national guard. How could we go and join something like that?"

Amber stood with her hands on her hips, as proud of her Knight identity as ever.

"Then the Knights of Favonius do not have any special artifacts of their own?"

"Kaeya sometimes brings back scattered artifacts to strengthen the Order, but those have nothing to do with me yet." Amber's round little face immediately scrunched up pitifully, then she waved a hand, and in the next second her energy bounced back as if nothing had happened. "Forget that. Remember I said I had a gift for you?"

"Even though it cannot compare in rarity or power to what Jensen just gave you, I am pretty confident when it comes to practicality."

"Oh?"

Lumine perked up, intrigued.

"Amber, what is it?"

Paimon, who had been sitting on the table gnawing on an apple, shot into the air again.

"In any case, you two go wait for me at the Statue of the Anemo Archon in the city first."

"If you do not know the way, just ask Jensen. I am going to prepare."

With that, she swung one leg over the windowsill and jumped straight out.

Neat and clean.

"..."

Jensen watched her smooth movement and could only be silent.

If any of her seniors in the Knights saw that, she would definitely get an earful of scolding again.

"Jensen, what is Amber going to give me?"

Lumine asked curiously.

"If I tell you, it will not be a surprise anymore, will it?"

He added, "The statue of the Anemo Archon is up on the high ground in Mondstadt, in front of the Cathedral. If you stand by the fountain below and look up, you can see part of it."

"Alright, I will go then."

Lumine spoke, but did not leave right away. She looked at him and asked, "Jensen, are you coming with us?"

"I still have other things to do."

Jensen shook his head.

"Oh."

Lumine answered softly, a little disappointed.

Unlike Amber, she did not take the window route. She and Paimon went obediently down the stairs.

"Pay attention to the wind, and to your own safety."

Just as she reached the door, that voice drifted down from the upper floor.

"Mm!"

Lumine's lips curved as she answered, and even her steps felt lighter.

She did not really understand why he was warning her like that, but it warmed her all the same.

"Then, I should head to the Knights as well."

Jensen watched Lumine and Paimon down in the fountain plaza, turning circles as they searched for the direction of the statue. Then he shut the windows on the loft and second floor and locked them.

"Sara, we are closing for today."

He came downstairs and spoke to his own waitress.

"Closing this early, boss?"

Sara blinked in confusion.

Business had been bad lately, but it was not so bad that they needed to close this early, was it?

"Do you have something important for me to do?" she asked.

"No. Put everything away and bring it back inside."

Jensen replied, "Today is a paid day off."
