Six months after the proposal.
Six months of planning, waiting, anticipating. The wedding grew from a small ceremony to something larger—not because we wanted grand, but because so many people wanted to be there.
Darius insisted on being best man. "I've earned it," he said. "All those times I saved your life."
"You tried to let me die twice."
"Details."
Lyra coordinated everything—naturally. "Someone has to make sure this doesn't become a disaster."
Vera offered to bring Echoes musicians. "Our sound-mages can create music like nothing you've heard."
Theo and Mira promised to attend, despite the journey. "We wouldn't miss it," Theo wrote.
Even the gods sent word. Selene would come—briefly. Theron and Solara together. Mira, of course. Even Darian and Serena requested permission to attend.
I granted it without hesitation.

The Morning
I woke alone on the wedding day.
Not because Mei Lian had left—tradition demanded we spend the night apart. She was with Lyra and Vera and a dozen other women, preparing in another part of the academy.
The bond hummed with her excitement, her nerves, her love.
I smiled. Stretched. Faced the day.
Darius burst in an hour later. "Time to get ready, lover boy."
"I've been ready for months."
"Good. Because everyone's here. And I mean everyone."
---
The Guests
They gathered in the academy's great hall.
Darius had been right—everyone was there. Theo and Mira, holding hands, looking peaceful. Vera with her Echoes delegation. Lyra coordinating frantically. Sarah's memorial stone had been moved to the hall for the day—she'd have wanted to be part of this.
Cassian arrived with Darian and Serena. The first immortal looked... different. Softer. More human. Serena never left his side.
Selene came last, as expected. She stood apart, but she was present. That counted.
Theron and Solara arrived in a swirl of storm and light—dramatic as always.
Mira—our Mira, the goddess—waited at the altar, ready to officiate.
And then the music started.
---
The Procession
Vera's mages created something impossible.
Music that wasn't music—sound that touched the soul, that made everyone present feel the weight and joy of the moment. It swelled as the doors opened.
Mei Lian walked toward me.
She was beautiful. More than beautiful. Radiant. Her dress flowed like water, her hair caught the light, her eyes held everything we'd been through together.
The bond blazed with her love.
I forgot to breathe.
Darius elbowed me. "Close your mouth."
I closed it. Opened it again to smile.
She reached me. Took my hands.
"Hi," she whispered.
"Hi."
Mira beamed. "Shall we begin?"
---
The Vows
We'd written them ourselves.
Mei Lian went first.
"Ren. Before you, I was frozen. Not cold like Selene—just... waiting. For something I couldn't name. Then you walked into my life. Stubborn, impossible, hopeful." Tears fell. "You thawed me. You loved me. You made me alive."
She squeezed my hands.
"I promise to stand beside you. Always. In every battle, every peace, every moment. I promise to love you when you're easy to love—and when you're not." Laughter rippled through the crowd. "I promise to be your home, as you are mine."
My turn.
"Mei Lian. I spent my first life as nothing. A nobody who drifted through existence without mattering. Then I died—and was given a second chance." I looked at her. "You are that chance made flesh."
She cried. I cried. Everyone cried.
"I promise to fight beside you, live beside you, grow beside you. I promise to love you through every storm, every calm, every ordinary day. I promise to be worthy of you—for the rest of my existence."
Mira smiled. "By the power vested in me by gods and mortals alike, I pronounce you bonded for life."
We kissed.
The hall erupted.

The Celebration
Food. Music. Dancing. Laughter.
Darius gave a speech that was somehow both embarrassing and touching. Lyra presented a detailed timeline of our relationship—complete with charts. Vera's mages played on.
Theo and Mira danced together—slowly, carefully, perfectly. They'd earned this peace.
Cassian approached with Darian and Serena.
"Congratulations," Darian said. His voice was quiet, humble. "You deserve this happiness."
"Thank you. And thank you for coming."
Serena hugged me. "We wouldn't have missed it. You gave us back each other."
I looked at them—three beings who'd found redemption, hope, love.
"That's all any of us can do."
Selene appeared briefly. "I don't do speeches." She pressed something into my hand—a small crystal, cold to touch. "A wedding gift. From my mountain."
She vanished before I could thank her.
Theron and Solara danced together—storms and light, wild and beautiful. They'd found each other again after millennia apart.
Mira—the goddess—stood with Mira—our Mira. They talked quietly, two versions of the same name, bound by history and hope.
---
Night
The celebration wound down.
Mei Lian and I slipped away—needed a moment alone. We stood on the balcony where we'd spent so many nights, watching stars.
"Today was perfect," she whispered.
"Almost perfect."
"What's missing?"
I pulled her close. "Nothing. Not anymore."
She smiled. Kissed me.
The bond hummed with everything—joy, love, peace, forever.
"Together," she said.
"Together."
---
The Gift
Later that night, we opened presents.
Most were thoughtful—art from Echoes, spices from Earth, a carved figure from Chains. But one stood out.
A simple box. No return address.
Inside: a small stone, warm to touch, and a note.
Ren,
You've carried my blessing for so long. Now carry this—a piece of my temple, of my self. May it remind you that even forgotten things can be remembered.
I'll be watching. Always.
—Mira
I held the stone. Felt its warmth.
Mei Lian touched my arm. "The goddess?"
"The goddess."
We added it to our collection of precious things.

Forever Begins
Dawn broke over the academy.
Mei Lian slept beside me, exhausted from celebration. The bond hummed with peaceful dreams.
I watched her for a long time.
Then I closed my eyes and slept too.
No nightmares. No regrets. Just peace.
Forever had begun.
