Dawn broke over Oracle's island like a promise.
I stood at the temple's edge, watching light spread across waters that had known centuries of solitude. Behind me, the chamber hummed with activity—gods preparing for the first real war council since before the Network existed.
Mei Lian joined me, pressing close.
"Nervous?"
"Always."
She smiled. "Liar. You're excited."
"Maybe a little." I kissed her forehead. "Twelve gods, mortal leaders from a dozen worlds, and us. Planning the biggest war in history."
"Just another Tuesday."
I laughed—actually laughed. "Something like that."

The Gathering
They came through portals, through storms, through shadows and light.
Darius first, stepping from a Curator's gate with his usual swagger. He looked around the island, at the gods gathering, and whistled.
"Not bad. Not bad at all."
Lyra followed, tablet in hand, already cataloging. "Twelve gods confirmed present. Representatives from seven freed worlds. Earth delegation arriving via Sarah's portal." She glanced at me. "This is the biggest coordination effort in history."
"Good thing we have you."
"Damn right."
Vera came next, leading a small delegation from Echoes—sound-mages who'd fought beside us, who'd earned their place at this table. She met my eyes, nodded once. Ready.
Sarah's portal opened, spilling Earth representatives in business suits and military uniforms. They gaped at the gods, at the island, at the sheer impossibility of everything.
"Welcome to the alliance," Sarah said dryly. "Try not to freak out."
Too late for some.

The Table
Mira had expanded the chamber overnight.
Now a massive circular table dominated the space—large enough for twelve gods and dozens of mortal representatives. Seats arranged not by hierarchy, but by need. Strategists near strategists. Fighters near fighters. Healers near healers.
I stood at the table's head—not because I demanded it, but because everyone expected it. Mei Lian beside me, steady as always.
Mira opened the council.
"We're here because the first immortal threatens everything we love. Worlds. People. Hope itself." She looked around the table. "We're also here because one mortal refused to give up."
All eyes turned to me.
I spoke quietly. "This isn't about me. It's about all of us. Every world represented here. Every god who chose to stop hiding. Every mortal who kept fighting when fighting seemed hopeless."
Theron rumbled, "Well said."
Solara nodded. "What's our first move?"
Lyra stepped forward, tablet glowing. "Intelligence. We need to know what we're facing. Network troop numbers. Immortal concentrations. Key targets. Supply lines."
"I can help with that," Oracle said. "My sight extends across many worlds. Not all—the first immortal clouds some futures—but enough."
"We have our own sources," a Earth general added. "Satellites, drones, signals intelligence. It's primitive compared to magic, but it covers gaps."
Nereus spoke. "The depths hold Network secrets. Underwater bases, submerged transport routes. I can guide strikes there."
Noctis added, "Shadows remember everything. I've watched their movements for centuries."
Information flowed. Lyra's tablet filled with data. Maps appeared—magical projections and holographic displays side by side.
For the first time, the Network's shape emerged.
---
The Scope
It was worse than we'd thought.
"Forty-seven immortal commanders," Lyra reported. "Approximately twelve thousand immortal soldiers. Network regulars numbering in the hundreds of thousands. Spread across at least sixty worlds."
Silence.
Darius broke it. "That's... a lot."
"That's an understatement." A Earth general shook his head. "Our entire planetary military couldn't handle those numbers."
"Your entire planetary military doesn't have gods," Valdur rumbled.
"Or mages," Vera added. "Or freed world armies. Or—" She looked at me. "—Ren."
I met her eyes. "We're not winning through numbers. We're winning through strategy. Through unity. Through the one thing the Network doesn't have."
"What's that?"
"Hope."

The Plan
Hours of discussion shaped a strategy.
Phase one: Disruption. Strike Network supply lines, communication hubs, key assets. Gods would lead these missions—their powers perfect for targeted destruction.
Phase two: Liberation. Free Network-controlled worlds, adding their populations to our forces. Mortal armies would handle this, supported by gods where needed.
Phase three: Consolidation. Fortify freed worlds, create defensive lines, prepare for counterattack.
Phase four: The final push. Find the first immortal. Confront him. Use Serena and the dagger to end it.
"Four phases," Mira summarized. "Months of work. Thousands of lives at risk."
"Any other options?" Selene asked.
"Hide. Hope he doesn't find us. Wait for Serena's hiding place to collapse." Mira shook her head. "That's not a plan. That's suicide."
Theron stood. "Then we fight."
Solara stood beside him. "We fight."
One by one, every god rose. Every mortal representative. Every soldier, strategist, healer.
I stood last.
"We fight. Together. And we win."

The First Mission
After the council dispersed, Mira pulled me aside.
"Phase one begins in three days. We need to hit them hard, fast, everywhere at once." She studied me. "I want you on the first strike."
"Where?"
"A Network weapons facility. They're building something—Oracle couldn't see details, but it's bad. Very bad."
"Who's leading?"
"You are. With Theron, Noctis, and a small mortal team." She touched my cheek. "First mission of the war. It has to succeed."
"It will."
"I know." She smiled. "That's why I'm sending you."

Night – Preparation
Mei Lian helped me pack.
Not much—a few supplies, the dagger from Ignis, the stones from Mira and Terra and Nereus. The blessings hummed constantly now, twelve voices ready to act.
"You're nervous," she said. Not a question.
"You can feel it through the bond."
"I can feel everything." She came closer. "I'm coming with you."
"No."
"Ren—"
"This mission is too dangerous. If something happens to you—"
"If something happens to you, I'd rather be there." She met my eyes. "The bond means I feel everything anyway. At least if I'm beside you, I can help."
I wanted to argue. Couldn't.
"Together?"
"Together."

Departure
Dawn came too fast.
Theron waited at the island's edge, storms gathering overhead. Noctis materialized from shadows beside him. A small mortal team stood ready—Darius, Vera, and two Echoes mages.
Mei Lian beside me. Always.
"Ready?" Theron asked.
I looked at my team. At the gods who'd chosen to fight. At the woman I loved.
"Ready."
We stepped into the storm.
