The next day, the university was very busy. It was the "Club Fair" day. Every club wanted new members. There were posters everywhere and students were shouting to get attention.
Haruki wanted to join a quiet club, like the Library Club or the Gardening Club. He just wanted to be invisible.
"Haru! Over here!" Hana yelled. She was wearing a bright tracksuit. She was at the Sports Club table. "You have to join the Tennis Club with me! We can practice together every day just like old times!"
Haruki felt nervous. "Hana, I'm not very good at sports. Maybe I should look around first."
Suddenly, he heard soft music. He turned around and saw Aimi. She was standing at the Art Club table. She looked beautiful in the sunlight.
"Haruki-kun," Aimi said with a sweet smile. "I heard you like art. Why don't you join the Art Club? It is very peaceful here. I can show you how to paint."
Now, Hana and Aimi were looking at each other again. The air felt heavy. Hana grabbed Haruki's left arm.
"He's joining Tennis!" Hana said loudly.
"He should choose what makes him happy," Aimi said softly, but her eyes were firm.
Haruki felt like a toy being pulled in two directions. But then, he saw a very small, plain table in the corner. There were no posters and no music. Sitting there alone was Rin.
She was reading a thick book. The sign on her table said: "Advanced Logic & Coding Club."
Hana and Aimi both looked at Rin's table.
"Hey, you!" Hana shouted at Rin. "Are you going to try and take him too?"
Rin looked up slowly. She didn't look at Hana or Aimi. She looked straight at Haruki.
"This club needs a person to carry heavy equipment and organize files," Rin said in her cold voice. "Haruki is quiet. He won't talk too much and ruin my focus. He should join this club."
Haruki was shocked. "Wait, you want me to join your club?"
"It is a logical choice," Rin replied. "You are not fast enough for sports, and you are too shy for the Art Club. Here, you can just sit in the dark and work."
Hana was angry. Aimi was surprised. And Haruki? He was just confused. Three different girls wanted him in three different clubs.
"I... I need to go to the bathroom!" Haruki yelled. He ran away as fast as he could, leaving the three girls staring at each other.
His college life was becoming a big problem.
