Eshaan did not sleep particularly well that night. The broken piece of wax from his father's package remained on the table long after the lamp had burned low, and every time he looked at it, the same thought returned to him. The symbol was not identical to the mark on the cloth, but it was similar enough that he could not dismiss it as coincidence. Yet he also knew that similarity was not proof. A crossing pattern could be used by more than one person, a merchant guild, a household, a temple or even an ordinary craftsman could use a design without having anything to do with a secret organization. He had spent enough time around Kripa to understand how dangerous it was to take a small connection and turn it into certainty. So instead of deciding that his father had somehow become involved with the people watching him, Eshaan wrote the possibility down in his mind and left it there.
The next morning, however, the matter became more complicated.
