Eshaan did not return to the locked archive room that night. He wanted to, but wanting to do something and deciding that it was sensible to do it were two different things, and the last few weeks had taught him the difference rather painfully. He had already been attacked once because someone knew where he was staying, had watched a man with a strange mark on his wrist escape from the battlefield and had learned that reports about him had been circulating long before he even knew that anyone was interested in him. Breaking into a locked room in the middle of the night because he had found an old catalogue entry was exactly the kind of decision that could turn a small question into a very large problem. So he left the archive, returned to his quarters and went to sleep with the intention of returning the next morning with a legitimate reason to open the door.
The next morning, however, Bhaskaracharya gave him an entirely different reason.
