She needs to distance the assassination attempt from herself and the Church.

"So, the god of Luminism is a Demon Lord, with the Lust skill. I am more inclined to believe it."
"So you gonna join the Trial of Heroes?"
"Honestly, its very tempting. I don't really need to become a Hero since I can win against anyone if they attack me. And even if I did, it will mean abandoning all the hard work I have done for years in the West.
A prerequisite for it is to break all connections with a country following Luminism.
But, I guess having an army of Heroes will be great. I will send some trusted people to check it out."

He used all the love energy stored in Maria to regain his youth, Razul gave him his life, and he evolved his Unique Skill [Unyielding] to the Ultimate Skill [Sariel: Lord of Hope].
Yet, he still lost as Luminous's Unique Skill [Lust] also evolved and became the Ultimate Skill [Asmodeus: Lord of Lust].
"Gran, why did you do something so unnecessary? For the continued existence of the world, you need to die."
"Is there really such a need to fear Milim so much? He hasn't even made any demands for the culprit to be handed over to him."
"He already knows that you were behind it. Glenda was taken over by an Archdemon serving him."

Luminous nodded, and stabbed Granbell through his heart with her Night Rose.

She took most of his life force, and Sariel that Gran gave her.
She ended Granbell's life.
Then, she dropped the barrier and walked to the little unusual girl.
"Sorry for killing your grandfather. This is the only thing I can do for you."
She patted Granbell's descendant's head and transfered Granbell's life force and the Ultimate Skill, [Sariel: Lord of Hope] into her.
Mariabell greedily took the power of the former Hero, and didn't stop Luminous as she took away Granbell's corpse.

Normally, a human becomes Enlightened through training, and then accumulates enough power to evolve into a saint through various circumstances. And even then, the body takes a long time to fully evolve into a Saint, unlike with Demon Lords.
With Granbell's power passed to her, she skipped the stage of Enlightened and has become a Saint. But to get actual power of a Saint, she will have to train and wait for years for her body to evolve.
Still, Mariabell grinned at the power flowing through her.
"Ultimate Skill... So there is something like that huh?"
Granbell's Hope, Mariabell, has discovered a new realm of power and become greedier.
