Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Luring the Dragons

The next day, Acnologia began organizing the Dragon Slaying Generals into squads, led by the strongest Dragon Slayer Mages. There were ten squads in total, and their sole mission was to lure the surrounding dragons to Dragnof Royal City.

"Lord Acnologia, isn't this approach a bit too aggressive? What if we lure multiple dragons at once?"

Irene looked at Acnologia as he issued the orders, feeling somewhat hesitant. She truly couldn't imagine the scene of three or four, or even seven or eight dragons attacking the city together.

Acnologia smiled. "That is exactly what I'm hoping for. It's too much trouble to hunt them down one by one; I want to settle them all at once."

"But..."

"No buts. You all just need to focus on the defense; I'll handle the dragon hunting!"

Acnologia said calmly, "Irene, slaying dragons isn't as difficult for me as you imagine. Instead of worrying about that, you'd better practice your Enchantment Dragon Slaying Magic."

He didn't tell Irene that Dragon Slaying Magic would lead to Dragonification. As the first generation of Dragon Slayer Mages, Dragonification was inevitable as their power grew, even if she stopped practicing the magic.

Seeing Queen Irene's tacit approval, the generals felt tense. This was the first time they had received such an order; if things went wrong, the royal city could be destroyed in a single day.

However, they didn't dare disobey Acnologia's orders. Compared to facing this man, they felt that even dragons weren't quite as terrifying.

Three days passed in a flash.

Acnologia spent his days immersed in the Magic Library. Magic in this era wasn't as diverse as in the future; most of it was still in its nascent stages.

As an anime fan who had watched Fairy Tail, his favorite was Irene's Enchantment Separation Magic, followed by Brandish's size manipulation, and then Ultear's Arc of Time.

The Magic Library contained Enchantment Separation Magic, but he hadn't found the size manipulation magic or Arc of Time yet. He didn't know if they were lost to history or simply hadn't been created yet.

Acnologia's talent for Dragon Slaying Magic was the highest in the world, but he wasn't sure about other types of magic, so he intended to give it a try.

"Initial Enchantment Magic is buff-type enchantment..."

In her spare time, Irene explained Enchantment Magic to Acnologia. She took out a wooden stick, permeated it with magic, and handed it to him.

Currently, Irene had mastered intermediate Enchantment Magic, but her methods were still quite limited. Certain substances needed to be analyzed before they could be enchanted; she couldn't just enchant whatever she wanted.

Acnologia possessed memories from another world, so his understanding of matter and the various forces of the world far exceeded that of ordinary people. With just a few pointers, he had completely grasped the concept.

Of course, the most important factor was his total magic power. In this world, no one could compare to him, except perhaps Zeref after obtaining the Fairy Heart in the future.

Acnologia looked at the wooden stick in his hand and applied an enchantment with absolute magic power: "Weight!"

Immediately, he felt the wooden stick become heavy.

"Enchant: Ice Attribute!"

He swung the stick casually, and a blade of ice shot out, instantly severing a stone pillar.

Irene watched as Acnologia continuously applied enchantments and experimented on the stick, shocked by his genius. However, seeing the pillars supporting the palace being cut down one by one, she hurriedly said, "Don't tear down the palace."

"Don't worry, it won't fall!"

Acnologia had studied architecture in his previous world and knew which pillars were structural.

In the future, the dragonified Irene could use High Enchantment to enchant meteors. With his current magic power, he could do the same even without undergoing Dragonification.

To be honest, Erza being able to shatter a meteor with a single sword strike was a bit exaggerated, especially in a state where she was heavily injured and had only one functional hand.

With Acnologia's current strength, he would have to take such an attack seriously, or he might even get hurt.

The original story actually had many illogical points. From the start of the Fairy Tail Guild to its end, only the first master, that little girl, actually died.

If he had the chance, he would join the Fairy Tail Guild as well. That would be like having fate on his side. Then, he'd find a magic item to play BGM, and maybe he could shatter a meteor with a single spit.

Acnologia had already learned Enchantment Magic and intended to go look for the magic book for size manipulation.

He turned back and said to Irene, "The ceiling for Enchantment Magic is very high. If you can reach High Enchantment in human form, even a Dragon King Level dragon won't be able to kill you."

"Human form?"

Irene looked puzzled. Did she have another form?

Acnologia had no intention of explaining it to her, and she didn't dare ask more. With her current Enchantment Magic combined with Dragon Slaying Magic, she could already kill low-rank dragons. As for High Enchantment, she couldn't yet comprehend what kind of power that was.

"Your Majesty, Lord Acnologia, the First Dragon Slaying Squad has lured two dragons. They will arrive at the royal city in ten minutes."

A soldier came running in a hurry.

"Well done!"

Acnologia laughed. He had thought those squads were just lazy trash since there had been no news for so long, but it turned out there were some capable ones after all.

His figure flashed, charging out of the city like a bolt of black lightning.

Perhaps due to the Dragon Slaying Magic, he felt a deep, intense desire to slay dragons. Having not killed a dragon for three days, he felt uncomfortable all over.

Outside the royal city, the First Dragon Slaying Squad was running for their lives. Behind them were two ferocious Thunder Dragons, their roars deafening.

"Mere humans dare to provoke the great dragons? Who gave you the courage?"

The Thunder Dragon looked at the ants beneath its feet and laughed wildly. With a casual flap of its wings, it could kick up a gale that tore the earth apart.

"Damn it! Why isn't Acnologia here yet!"

A soldier couldn't dodge in time, and his arm was crushed by a giant rock. If his companion hadn't pulled him away, he might have died right then and there.

The squad leader general's eyes flashed with fury. He leaped off a giant rock, gathered magic in his mouth, and let out a roar.

"Roar of the Venom Dragon!"

A massive purple magic circle expanded, and with a boom, the roar was released with full force.

This general's magic power had reached the peak of an S-Class Mage. The terrifying roar, carrying wind and sand, slammed into the dragon. However, it was useless; it only pushed the dragon back slightly without even breaking its scales.

"Hahaha! You call that a roar?"

"Let me show you a real roar!"

The Thunder Dragon sneered. It opened its fanged maw to gather magic, and lightning filled with an aura of destruction was compressed to the limit. The destructive power began to warp the air itself.

Boom!

A terrifying and thick pillar of lightning shot out, like a beam of annihilation. Wherever it passed, space trembled and the earth cracked.

"Acnologia!"

The Dragon Slaying General let out a desperate roar as he watched the lightning approach.

He shouldn't have trusted Acnologia. He shouldn't have lured any dragons. These were beings they simply couldn't contend with.

In the next moment, a black figure appeared in front of him and raised a hand. The pillar of light that seemed capable of piercing heaven and earth was instantly blocked, unable to advance even an inch.

"You... you... you..."

The Dragon Slaying General collapsed to the ground, his face a mix of shock and terror as he watched the endless, terrifying lightning.

He actually blocked it with just one hand.

How is that possible!

Such exaggerated power!

Acnologia blocked the lightning roar with one hand and looked back at him, smiling. "Why were you calling me? I don't think I heard you say the word 'Lord' just now."

Cold sweat poured down the Dragon Slaying General's forehead. At this moment, Acnologia was as terrifying as a god of death. He hurriedly knelt and kowtowed to admit his mistake. "Lord Acnologia, I wouldn't dare do it again."

Facing such a terrifying existence, making excuses was seeking death. Admitting his mistake honestly might allow him to live.
