Chapter 162 - politics 6

The main hall of East Horizon headquarters was filled with people. Officers, staff, and key supporters stood in groups, all watching the large screens on the wall. Live counts from polling stations across the western territories continued to update. Olivia stood beside Alexander, tablet in hand. Vanya leaned against a pillar. Tianya sat quietly near the front, her expression calm.

Olivia spoke first. "The capital is finished counting. You are ahead by a clear margin. The northern districts are the same. Refugee turnout is higher than any previous election."

Alexander kept his eyes on the screens. "What about the industrial cities?"

"Still coming in," Olivia answered. "But the gap is already large enough. Even if the remaining stations favor the Alliance, it will not be enough to close it."

A senior officer approached quickly. "Guild Master, the Alliance council just requested a delay in the final announcement. They're claiming irregularities in the eastern refugee districts."

Alexander's voice was flat. "Reject it. The observers from both sides were present at every station. There is nothing to delay."

Vanya pushed off the pillar. "They're scared. They know the numbers."

On the central screen, the final major update appeared. The remaining industrial cities reported their results. The gap widened further. A low wave of voices moved through the hall.

Olivia looked at Alexander. "It's confirmed. You have the majority. In the name of the remaining democratic process of the western territories, you are the elected leader."

For a moment the room was silent. Then the first cheers broke out. Staff members clapped. Some of the eastern survivors who had been allowed inside the hall covered their faces. Others simply stared at the screens as if they still could not believe it.

Alexander raised one hand, and the noise gradually settled.

"This is not a victory for me alone," he said. "This is the result of every person who refused to stay silent. The Alliance council tried to keep power through fear and old habits. The people chose differently."

A young officer near the front spoke up. "Guild Master… what happens now?"

Alexander looked across the room. "Now we take the formal position. The council will try to limit the transfer of authority. We will not allow that. Every department that answers to the old Alliance leadership will be reviewed. East Horizon's structure will become the core of the new administration."

Olivia already began giving quiet instructions to several staff members. "Prepare the official statement. Broadcast it on every independent channel first. Do not wait for Alliance approval."

Vanya walked closer to Alexander. "They'll still resist. Some of the regional governors won't accept the result cleanly."

"I know," Alexander replied. "That's why we move quickly. Public recognition first. Administrative control second."

Tianya, who had remained silent until now, finally spoke. "The people have chosen. That choice carries weight. Use it carefully."

Alexander met her eyes for a brief moment and nodded.

Outside the headquarters, crowds had already gathered. News of the preliminary results spread faster than the official channels. Some people celebrated in the streets. Others argued. Alliance-backed groups remained quiet for the first time in weeks.

Inside the hall, Olivia received one final confirmation on her tablet. She looked up.

"The last stations are in. The count is complete. Alexander Vane is the elected leader of the western territories."

The room erupted again. This time Alexander did not stop it immediately. He stood in the middle of the noise, the weight of the result settling over him. The democratic process that still remained on Vaelion had spoken.

The old council's grip had been broken.

But everyone in the room understood that winning the vote was only the beginning.
