Chapter 4 - First Danger

The Red Boar changed its direction when it smelled a human.

The moment it spotted Ling Tian and Shen Yueyan, its red eyes gleamed, and it slowed down its pace instantly.

Like a predator eyeing its prey, the Red Boar carefully and slowly approached them.

Its footsteps even barely made a sound, as if it were not a boar, but a snake slithering through the grass.

"We have cooking equipment now, so let's find edible vegetables if we can't catch an animal or find fruits." He was not picky.

He would eat anything as long as it was edible.

"Alright." She agreed.

When he was about to say something, a quest popped up.

[Ding! Shen Yueyan is Host's binding partner. Both of you have promised to survive and return home together. Protect her and survive the attack of a magical beast. Upon completing the quest, Host will be rewarded with 100 system exp, 100 cultivation exp, and one random card.]

'A quest?'

Countless questions flashed through his mind, but he stopped thinking about it right away because they were in danger.

When Shen Yueyan noticed his wary expression, she immediately asked, "What's wrong, Student Ling?'

"Nurse Shen, I got a survival quest from my system." He stood in front of her and skimmed their surroundings, looking for their enemy while protecting her.

Her expression instantly changed.

'A survival quest?'

She swept her gaze around.

Since Ling Tian and Shen Yueyan had noticed it, the boar stopped its stealthy movements and charged at them without hesitation.

"A wild boar?" Panic enveloped her heart as she saw the size of the boar.

But even so, she didn't cry or run in fear.

She controlled her emotions and stayed behind him because she didn't want to put them in a more dangerous situation.

When the magical beast charged at them, Ling Tian grabbed her slender waist and jumped to the side to avoid its attack.

He immediately rose to his feet and unsheathed the machete. "Nurse Shen, hide! I will lure it away!"

"No! You can't face it alone! It's dangerous!" she thought the Red Boar was as powerful as the White Lion or the Golden Tiger, so she tried to stop him.

"Don't worry. My instincts tell me that this boar is only slightly stronger than the ones in our world." He didn't feel as much fear as when he saw the White Lion, so he believed he still had a chance to survive.

She bit her lower lip before finally listening to him. "Promise me you will come back to me safely."

"I promise!" he replied.

"I won't forgive you if you don't keep your word!" She turned around and hid among the bushes.

"Hey, ugly pig, come here! I will face you!" Ling Tian provoked it as he lured it away from Shen Yueyan.

The boar fell for his provocation and ignored her completely.

Grrroorrrhhk…Grrroorrrhhk…

The Red Boar let out a deep, guttural growl as its eyes were locked on him.

"That's right. Focus on me! I'm your opponent." Even though his heart beat fast, Ling Tian was relieved because he managed to get its full attention. "Come, follow me. Let's fight in another place."

The Red Boar immediately chased him when Ling Tian ran away.

Shen Yueyan, who was among the bushes, stood up and looked at him with a worried expression.

'God, please protect him.'

She could not help him, so she prayed to God.

While he was running as fast as he could, Ling Tian turned his head left and right frequently.

His strength was weaker, and his speed was slower, so he looked for a fighting ground that would give him an advantage.

'Hmm?'

He quickly rolled to the side as the boar attacked him.

The Red Boar's eyes gleamed with fury when Ling Tian managed to dodge its attack. It immediately turned around and charged at him once more.

However, the result was still the same.

Ling Tian could avoid its attack again!

Even though it had transformed from a normal animal into a magical beast, a boar was still a boar.

It could not run in zigzags and only attacked in a straight line.

Ling Tian used its weakness to read its strike and dodge it.

But even so, it was still a challenging task because the Red Boar was fast.

'Dangerous!'

Ling Tian jumped to the side again, but this time, he could not dodge it completely, causing him and his machete to be thrown into the air.

Bang!

Blood splashed out of his mouth as his body crashed against a tree.

When Ling Tian was about to stand up, the boar was already close to him, ready to tear his body apart with its tusks.

Ling Tian had no time to dodge it, so he could only protect himself by grabbing its tusks and preventing them from piercing his body.

Blood came out of his back as he was dragged along the ground.

But even so, he didn't let go of its tusks because it would make him get trampled.

'I need to do something!'

Just as he was about to attack it, the boar swung its head left and right, forcing his grip to loosen and sending him flying into the air.

Ling Tian didn't want to make the same mistake again, so when the boar charged at him, he quickly moved to the back of the huge tree.

Boom!

The tree shook violently when its tusks pierced the trunk, causing leaves to fall to the ground.

While the boar tried to pull its tusks out of the tree, Ling Tian grabbed his machete and ran away.

'I need to find a way to deal with it.'

If he didn't make a plan, it would only be a matter of time before he died because its speed was fast and its attack was deadly.

'A ruined temple?'

He saw a ruined temple fifty meters to the south.

'I might be able to use that place to my advantage.'

He changed his direction instantly.

As he was running to the ruined temple, the boar finally managed to pull its tusks out of the trunk.

Ling Tian turned his head when the sound of its footsteps reached his ears.

'It has freed itself?'

He tightened his grip on his machete, stopped running, and turned around to face it.

Maybe it was because he had learned martial arts before, or perhaps because his adrenaline made him fearless.

At that moment, all he felt was his heart pounding.

Not the slightest fear appeared in his heart, as if he had faced magical beasts many times before.

'Come here, big pig. I will fight you.'

When the boar charged him, Ling Tian dodged it by moving to the left.

He didn't only avoid its strike this time.

He also did a counterattack.

Unfortunately, its skin was thick, so his attack only injured it slightly.

'Its skin is so thick!'

He believed the boar would have been severely injured or even killed if it were a normal one, because he swung his weapon as hard as he could.

'Then, I will target its eyes next. But I need to reach the ruined temple first.'

He turned around and ran again.

When he was in the ruined temple, he looked for the best place to face it. The ruined temple no longer had a roof, so sunlight could easily illuminate the interior.

'Over there!'

He rushed to the meditation room and stood at the corner.

Unlike before, the boar didn't attack him immediately.

Instead, it approached him slowly.

In its eyes, Ling Tian had already become prey that could be eaten at any time because he could no longer escape from it.

Grrroorrrhhk…Grrroorrrhhk…

Saliva dripped from the boar's mouth as its eyes fixed on him.

At this moment, Ling Tian's heart beat faster than before.

He could kill it if his plan worked, but he would die if he made even a single mistake, so his adrenaline surged as he prepared to risk everything.

Ling Tian raised his machete and said, "Come at me, big pig. Let's decide everything right here right now."

As if the boar could understand his words, it stopped walking and prepared to attack him.

Ling Tian's breathing grew heavy as the boar charged at him, but he managed to stay focused.

When the boar was close to him, he quickly moved to the side.

Boom!

The wall broke into pieces, and the ground trembled for a moment.

When the boar was trapped in the corner, Ling Tian took the opportunity to attack it continuously.

'Die! Die! Die!'

Blood burst out as he stabbed its right eye and head over and over again.

Some of the blood splashed onto his body while the rest fell to the ground.

But Ling Tian didn't care about it and kept attacking it because it was the moment that would determine whether he would live or die.

When he missed stabbing its other eye, the boar swung its head left and right.

Ling Tian was right beside it and focused on attacking it, so he failed to avoid or block it, causing him to fly into the air.

Bang!

He coughed up blood as his body crashed against a wall.

Since the fight was not over yet, he quickly rose to his feet and was ready to launch another strike.

To his surprise, he saw the boar running away from him with blood dripping from its head.

Maybe it could tell that the chances of dying at Ling Tian's hands were high, so it decided to run away.

"Huff…" Ling Tian took a deep breath before exhaling slowly.

'I survive!'
