Lisa wasn't Ziro the Hutt's slave. She was a free citizen.
A college graduate from some remote corner of the Outer Rim, Lisa had, like many ambitious people her age, chosen to come to Coruscant after graduating last year to make it big and chase her dreams.
But the glittering excess at the galaxy's center quickly dazzled her. Before she could catch up to her dream, she first became a captive of consumerism. Spending recklessly—and with almost zero awareness of scams—she soon racked up a mountain of debt.
With no other choice, she quit her original job and went to work off what she owed at her creditor's place—Ziro's nightclub.
At midnight on Galactic Standard Date 4/11/14, at a night market on Level 1313 of Coruscant, Max ate a late-night snack while listening to Lisa tell her story.
"Why would Ziro arrange for you to work in a Level 1313 club?" Max couldn't wrap his head around it. "With your looks and your dance skills, you absolutely belong in a high-end club above Level 5000. You'd both make more that way, wouldn't you?"
"Well… it's like this…"
Lisa felt a lot of goodwill toward the tall, handsome young man who'd pulled her out of deep trouble. More than that—he'd taken over her IOU, which meant he'd effectively taken over the rest of her life. If her owner for the rest of her life was him… maybe that wouldn't be so bad, she thought.
So she answered Max's question in full, holding nothing back.
Ziro's business on Coruscant was massive. From the clouds to the depths, he owned nightspots of every tier and size. At first, Lisa really was assigned to a top-floor high-end nightclub in the Uscru Entertainment District.
But as a newcomer who still couldn't let go of her "college girl" reserve, she'd scream the moment a guest even tried to take her hand. In just one week, she piled up double-digit complaints—and the manager kicked her out.
Fortunately, Ziro was a kind man. He recommended her to another venue in the Uscru Entertainment District—slightly lower tier. This time, in the first week, she only got two complaints for ruining guests' fun by refusing even hand-touching. But early in the second week, on the very first workday, she lost that job too—because she slapped a guest who'd come up and grabbed her ass.
Ziro didn't hold it against her. Not only did he compensate the guest who'd been hit—ten thousand Republic credits—but he also lined up her next job: waitress at the Outlander Club, on the lower-edge levels of the Uscru Entertainment District.
At the Outlander Club, Lisa's looks already put her in a different league. But in the beginning, all she could earn was small money—drinking a little with customers, playing a few party games. Coworkers who weren't as pretty or as well-built as her were outperforming her, bringing in far more credits.
Those coworkers were willing to go out for late-night food with VIP clients after hours. Lisa wasn't. Still, she stopped using slaps to reject unreasonable requests—every time she refused, she'd smile and drink as an apology instead. That's how, after she drank too much one night and threw up all over the client who'd invited her out for food, she lost her third nightlife job.
By her fourth job, she wasn't even in the Uscru Entertainment District anymore. Lisa noticed that every time she changed jobs, her workplace dropped to a lower level. What she didn't notice was that every time she changed jobs, her bottom line dropped too. By the time she landed at the "Radiant Charm" bar on Level 1313, she was already willing to dance topless.
Tonight was her first fully nude performance.
No—Not fully nude. I'm still wearing the necklace Mom gave me, Lisa thought.
Tonight, she'd heard the big boss, Ziro, was coming by to inspect the place. So she threw everything she had into it, twisting and rolling in the dance pit like a runaway crazy horse—because she didn't want to stay on Level 1313 anymore.
Max listened with intense focus. The way his young, handsome face held that concentrated look made Lisa's heart flutter.
He really cares about me, Lisa thought.
Max really did care about Lisa—but not in the way she imagined, or hoped. What Max cared about was whether Lisa had the potential to be trained and developed into an intelligence asset.
The Crazy Horse club Max planned to found wasn't only about "doing good" for Coruscant's high-end sex workers. More importantly, it was meant to become an intelligence station on Coruscant.
No need to "pry." Just recording the daily gossip these high-end workers traded, then aggregating and analyzing it, would produce plenty of actionable intel—because their patrons were political and business heavyweights of Coruscant, even the whole galaxy.
Right now, the Bespin Mandalorian Armed Forces Intelligence Bureau mainly relied on the "Mandalorian bodyguard service" pushed by the beskar-steel security company to run intelligence work.
And yes—providing close protection for big shots made intel collection extremely convenient. But pulling Mandalorian warriors out to serve as external bodyguards scattered manpower too thin. The army and navy already had major objections. With the Crazy Horse club as an intelligence station, the Bureau's Coruscant-direction collection could save a huge amount of manpower, and the army and navy could reduce unnecessary depletion of combat strength.
So the question became: who would lead the Crazy Horse club's intelligence work?
Pulling female warriors out of the Bespin Mandalorian Armed Forces clearly wouldn't work. That meant the only option was selecting suitable people from Coruscant's high-end sex workers.
So—could Lisa do it?
Max stared at Lisa, sinking into thought. Under that deep, steady gaze, Lisa felt like she was melting.
Hostility.
Max's eyes suddenly flashed with a sharp gleam, startling Lisa into a shiver.
"Don't be afraid. I'm here," Max said softly. He looked toward the direction his Force warning had flagged—some sketchy types were closing in.
"Mm-hm!" Lisa nodded rapidly, still not fully understanding what was happening.
Ziro really is a great guy—credits, a girl, and even an opportunity, all bundled together.
Once Max realized Ziro the Hutt was breaking the rules and trying to snatch back the credits from his hands—maybe even the IOU, and Lisa too—Max felt genuinely happy.
If he'd faked illness and run to Coruscant Medical Center to "be hospitalized," but then refused to cooperate with bloodwork, that would've looked a lot like petty obstruction—an ugly, shameless move.
But if he went out for a stroll and got bullied by a crime syndicate… well, then of course he had to cooperate with the Coruscant police investigation, didn't he?
Until the matter was investigated thoroughly and Max Vizsla got an answer he was satisfied with… in his view, maybe negotiations should be paused for now.
In no time, the late-night stall—originally pretty quiet—filled up with people. Then a Falleen with the Black Sun emblem tattooed on his cheek walked over.
"Hey, kid. Leave the credits and the IOU, go over there and pay my brothers' tab, and today you'll—OH!!!"
As he spoke, the Falleen reached out to grab Lisa.
Max flicked his wrist.
A barbecue skewer—still threaded with roasted meat—shot out and speared straight through the little boss's cheeks.
Max rose to his feet, trembling slightly.
Not from fear.
He was thrilled.
After more than four—almost five—years in this other world, he could finally experience the classic isekai joy: some trash-tier thug looks down on you, then you flex in front of everyone and make it legendary.
He'd been playing "the boss" for so long he'd almost forgotten he was only seventeen or eighteen—an age when he was supposed to be hot-blooded and reckless.
"Come at me together!" Max beckoned with his hand, striking Bullet Brother's classic pose. "I'll take ten of you!"
"Get him!" / "Shit!" / "Son of a bantha!" / …
............................
PS: The Falleen are a sapient humanoid species evolved from reptiles. During the Galactic Empire era, Black Sun's leader was the Falleen Prince Xizor.
In Legends, Prince Xizor was a major underworld power capable of influencing the galaxy's balance of power.
