Chapter 2 - 2) Rats. Lab Rats.

I died. I'm pretty sure I died.

You confirmed it. I confirmed it. Even god confirmed it…

SO WTF IS GOING?!?!

I gained consciousness to a failed body. Literally.

My senses were functioning pretty well for a dead person. But my body? I couldn't move it. At all.

It's like my body wasn't mine.

Wait. No. That's not it.

It felt like only my neural system and brain was functioning. Nothing else.

My eyes could see the darkness of my eyelids, but I couldn't move the eye ball.

My ears could hear the silence, but couldn't move. Not even that faint twitch which I was so proud of in my younger days.

My tongue could taste the saliva within my mouth, but my throat couldn't swallow, nor could my tongue move.

My skin could feel the cold around me, and the roughness of the material on which I was lying, but nothing else moved. That was all that functioned. Even my nose wasn't working.

I could feel when air would brush against my nose hair, but my chest, more specifically, my lungs, didn't take single breath. How the fuck am I alive?!?!

I focused on my working senses to take note of my surroundings.

From the darkness of my eyelids, I could vaguely feel the dim lighting of the room.

My ears could feel the strict silence in the room, accompanied by an occasional beep from beside me. My skin could feel the medicated, frosty cold air in the room.

*Creak…*

I felt my heart drop at the familiar sound. I couldn't help it. It was the same sound that had started my nightmare. Was it the killer?

*thud*

What is going on…?

*Tap tap tap*

I heard the faint sounds of the approaching footsteps. It stopped right beside me.

*click!*

That… sounded like a pen cap opening…?

*scratch scratch scratch!*

And that was… writing? Was the person writing? I don't know…

I tried to move my body. Or any part, for that matter, to get the person's attention. But to no avail. My body refused to listen and stayed dead. Or whatever vegitative state I was in.

*click*

That… sounded like the pen cap closing.

*tap tap tap*

And that should be the receding footsteps.

*creak…*

Door open.

*thud.*

Door close. Silence.

Well, that was quick… What now?

Time passed. I don't know how much, but time passed. A lot of it. My only benchmark for a new day were the visits.

I tried keeping track. I don't know if the person came into the room once a day or not, but, just in case, I kept track. Or at least, tried to. I lost count after 528...

However, if I was sure of one thing, that was the fact that my life only contained *creak*, *taptap*, *click*, *scratchscratch*, *click*, *taptap*, *creak* and then, *thud*.

These eight sounds kept me sane. Mostly.

Fuck. Just where am I…? What is going on, damn it?

More time passed. Like I said, I don't know how much. But time passed.

My almost 'serene' and 'tranquil' situation was finally shattered on some random, yet fatefull day.

That day started like no other. I woke up, questioned if it was a new day or not, and then jut stayed there, listening.

It had become a hobby for me now. Listening. It was the only way I could pass time. That, and sleeping.

*Boom!*

Just then, the tranquil silence that usually enveloped me, was shattered by an explosion.

Then, I heard countless new sounds. Sounds, I was glad to hear again.

*shatter!*

The shattering of glass.

*Ahhhh!*

Screams of men and women alike.

*taptaptaptaptap!*

Sounds of rushed footsteps.

*ratatatatatata!*

Gunfire.

And more.

My quiet 'abode' was now surrounded by a cacophony of voices.

Although I wasn't sure if it was for the best or not, I held on to hope. That was the one thing I never let go.

People say I used to be possessive. I used to disagree. But now? I… don't know anymore…

*CREAK. THUD!*

My thoughts were interrupted by a sudden visitor. From the sounds of it, he rushed in, and closed the door, breathing heavily.

Then,

*taptaptap*

Approaching footsteps. Shucks. I was getting looked at. Let's just hope he doesn't start stabbing the fuck out of me. Ahhh… trauma. How cute.

I wait for something to happen. But… nothing.

The man, by the feels of it, was just standing beside me, looking at me.

*gulp.*

Eh? He gulped.

*click*

Sounds like he unbuckled something?

I waited for something to happen. And sure enough, a Loud sound erupted in my ears.

*Bzzzzttt…!*

Wtf! Static? Don't tell me… A radio! Holy hell, who uses that shit anymore?!

*bzzt!*

"Hello? Van-6 to Base. I repeat, Van-6 to base. Can you hear me? Over."

*bzzt*

"Base to Van-6. We hear you loud and clear. Over."

"Van-6 to Base, I'm on floor -3 of the facility. Room number 305. Get men over here. These bastards have test subjects on this floor. I need a support squad and a transport squad at my location. We have people to rescue. Out."

*bzzt*

"Base to Van-6. Two support squads and transports squads enroute to your current location. Over."

*bzzzt*

*click*

With a click, the static died down. But didn't hear any of it. My mind was still processing the conversation just now.

I… was in a facility. As a test subject.

*taptaptap*

I heard the man walk around to the other side of wherever I was.

"Hmm… will this turn it off?"

Eh? Turn off? Turn off what?

*click.*

Suddenly, I felt an influx of pain from everywhere. I felt my lungs squeeze into themselves, trying to grasp for air. My heart pounded recklessly, pumping blood for who knows what. My internal organs went haywire.

My external ones though? The ones that mattered? Still stiff and unmovable.

I felt the cold that I felt when I first woke up here leave the area around me, replaced by warmth. It was a weird feeling. But I had no time to complement it.

I heard the frantic beeping of the machines around me, each screaming one thing. I was failing. My systems was failing. Whatever that guy had removed, it was important.

"Uhh… was I not supposed to unplug it…? Hehe… oops."

FUCKER!!! I'LL KILL YOU!!! AHHHHHHH!!!

Then, I blacked out. My body shut itself down to conserve what was left of it. Or rather, that was my speculation. It may have also shut down due to lack of air. I don't know.

I woke up to the smell of medication and fresh air conditioning.

Moving my eyes from under the eyelids, I could feel that the room I was in was way different from the one I was in. This room felt smaller, the walls had less sound proofing. I could here the occasional steps of people walk by.

I swallowed.

Where am I?

What's goin-

Wait pause. Repeat that for me, bitch.

"Moving my eyes under my eyelids." And "I swallowed"

I can move?!

I can move!!!

Joy overcame me, overriding whatever thoughts I had. I tried to move my body and felt my fingers twitch. And… That's about it. Nothing else moved externally.

Internally, I was improving by leaps and bounds.

My throat could swallow. My tongue moved. I could feel my lungs breathing. I could move my eyeballs. I could feel my bladder do it's job. Yay!

*creak…!*

The door opened.

*clickclickclick*

The sound of something clicking against the floor echoed as the person walked towards me.

"Awake?" A voice sounded in the room. It was sweet, and carried a tinge of exhaustion to it. I quickly deduced what I could. A woman. Around her 30s from the sounds of it. How did I do this? Don't ask.

"Hmm… neural response to stimuli is perfect. However. You seem to be having problems with your motor neurons. They don't seem to be working quite right. O wonder your all stiff." I felt her pick my arm up and examine it as she spoke. Then, she let it drop. I twitched my finger in mild protest.

"Heh. Lively one here, I should say." She chuckled.

*tap*

*click*

She stepped closer, unbuckling… no. That's not right. That wasn't unbuckling. She uncapped something.

*squelch!*

Something pierced my skin. I trembled violently as bad memories resurfaced.

"Oh, sorry, forgot to warn you, just a little shot. Don't worry. This should fix you up in no time darling~ see you tomorrow~" she chuckled before leaving.

*clickclickclick*

Retreating footsteps.

*creak… thud.*

Door closes.

Huuu… I let out a breath as I lost consciousness. Hopefully, I'll be alright by tomorrow.
