Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: The Spectacular Performance

The current scene was quite spectacular.

What was originally a painful field training exercise had now developed into Ryan Hartwell's solo moment to shine.

The students were already tired, but they still had to run ten laps. They all gritted their teeth, with slightly flushed faces.

Most of them had completed seven or eight laps, except for some who were in extremely poor physical condition and had only completed five or six laps.

Whenever a student was about to give up, Ryan would always turn his head to encourage them.

The student being encouraged would glare at him, with widened eyes as an unknown burst of strength and speed suddenly burst out from within!

Ryan and the students who received encouragement at this point kept a very "mysterious" distance.

Whenever a student was about to catch up to Ryan, he would suddenly sprint ahead and increase the distance again.

If this kept up, even those students who could have managed to persevere before would all collapse to the ground, exhausted.

Even more unbelievable was the fact that Ryan had only broken a slight sweat after running all this time, and he seemed completely unaffected.

Moreover, Ryan had now lapped them an unknown number of times!

Ryan thought smugly: You little brats, I am the man you will never catch!

"Damn, is Ryan some kind of superhuman?"

"Inhuman behavior! Why is he suddenly so strong? It is like he gained dozens of extra lungs!"

"Exactly! He was clearly exhausted after only a few laps before, but now he is like the national track team!"

"No, even the national team is not this good!"

The students lay on the ground, questioning their existence and racking their brains. They could not think of a reason.

They were making assumptions based on their existing knowledge, but Ryan was cheating!

With stamina of 35, it was the same as seven normal people, so there were fourteen lungs. Two against fourteen how could they possibly compare?

Vice Principal Sai had stood up from his chair at some point. He walked side by side with Coach Matthew Iron, the morning breeze blowing his flowing middle-parted hair.

Mr. Sai asked. "How many laps has he done?"

Coach Iron answered stiffly. "Forty-three laps."

He had completed forty-three laps four times more than the original target.

Mr. Sai's eyes lit up. He pushed up his glasses, and a rough guess formed in his mind.

Ordinary people who had not yet awakened abilities would sometimes show signs related to their about-to-awaken powers.

Elemental awakening would possibly bring immunity or stronger resistance to certain elements.

Strength-based awakening would possibly bring a dramatic boost in physical strength or speed, such as what Ryan was showing.

Transformation-type awakening would possibly display nascent qualities of the creature they would transform into tails, ears, fangs, and so on.

The above three were all mainstream awakening paths.

However, there were also some special awakening paths, such as spatial abilities, summoning abilities, and so on.

These strange and unusual abilities were all collectively called special types.

"Phew, I am finished running, Coach Iron. I should be the first, right?" Ryan smiled, showing a set of pearly white teeth.

Coach Iron answered reluctantly. "Yes, indeed."

The rest of the students in their class were either still running or already tiring out on the ground.

In every true sense, Ryan was the first to arrive.

"So, Coach Iron, I remember you said you could grant me one request, right?" Ryan asked casually.

Coach Iron reluctantly nodded in agreement.

Ryan paused for a moment, then smiled. "Actually, Coach, I will save that request for later. I have not decided what I want yet."

Coach Iron looked surprised. "Are you certain?"

"Yes, Coach. I will let you know when I think of something good." Ryan said with a grin.

Internally, Ryan was thinking: Better to save this for when I really need something important. No point wasting it on something silly.

"Very well. The offer stands." Coach Iron seemed much more relaxed now.

"Everyone come over here. Class is over for today."

Coach Iron shouted loudly across the field. The students still on the track, upon hearing this, felt as if they had been granted a pardon and immediately gathered together.

"What just happened? Did Ryan really not ask for anything?" A classmate asked the girl next to her.

"I do not know. That is strange. I would have asked for something immediately." She replied, equally puzzled.

Danny appeared next to Ryan without anyone noticing. "Dude, why did you not use your request? You could have asked to skip homework or even private instructions!"

Ryan shrugged. "Better to save it for something more valuable, do you not think?"

Danny thought about it and nodded. "Smart. Very smart."

Mr. Sai watched the whole scene with great interest. The boy was not only showing physical improvements but also showed unexpected restraint and intelligence.

"Alright, students. Let us all head back to our classrooms for self-study." Mr. Sai announced.

The students started walking back to the teaching building in groups, still talking about Ryan's amazing performance.

"Ryan Hartwell, come with me to my office for a moment." Mr. Sai called out.

Ryan's heart sank. "Yes, Mr. Sai."

He could not help but mutter to himself. "Going to the office never ends well. Is Mr. Sai going to settle scores with me later?"

Oh no! Ryan suddenly realized that he still had not written his five-thousand-word reflection essay!

Danny gave him a sympathetic look as Ryan followed Mr. Sai toward the office building.
