The people of Kinerik were simply people. They had no deep-seated desire for material things or wants, and hunger not for fleeting carnal pleasures.
This made them one of the most peaceful race out all worlds. The people of Kinerik were people who strived to live as peacefully and grace as the rushing wind.
However, they were not perfect. And, like the other six had their own vices.
Rushina looked at the strange man before here that called himself Breaker. Feeling immensely unnerved and uncomfortable by the way he just stared at me with a playful grin etched on his face.
"You're names Rushina, right?" he spoke with an ease and familiarity that greatly took Rushina aback.
"How…how'd you know my name?" Rushina asked with a trembling voice.
His playful grin then extended and widened into something almost sinister.
He then clapped his hands.
Hundreds of screens then lit up, surrounding them all and displaying within the entirety of Swifi from every nuke, corner, and alley.
"Slow and steady wins the race," Breaker grinned as he leaned back against his seat. "Funny how while moving at over mach two you tend to zip right past the little things,"
Rushina just watched the screens as the display Swifi, people zipping past the streets from their homes, work, everywhere, unaware they were being watched.
*Snap*
Breaker's finger clicked, and the screens shut off.
"Relax Rushina," said Breaker with a playful tone. "I'm not a creep. There aren't any cameras in people's homes. Just the streets, around locations specially designated to be able to see everything that goes on around the city".
"Just who are you exactly?" she spoke, her words heavy with fear as she looked on at the strange man before.
"I've already told you, I'm Breaker. And I can help you fix all your troubles," said Breaker.
"Fix?" she questioned.
Breaker then lifted his arm, showing the limiter on his wrist with 'X' flashing on it.
"I like to think of myself as a modifier. I'm sure you've already seen mine and my colleague's special limiters," said the man.
Rushina's gaze then shifted to the strange man standing by Breaker, the one who had brought her there. Spotting his limiter and 'X' flashing on it.
"Thanks to my modifications I and him can move freely at full speeds with little to no restrictions, despite technically being gear one," said Breaker.
Rushina's eyes shook upon hearing his words.
"What did you just say?" She looked at him, with eyes that lit up and shook with disbelief.
Greed and envy.
Some may call it a universal vice. A sin common across all worlds. The simple but selfish desire to covet what you don't have but was freely. To take what was denied you.
"I can make your one come true. Give the fast life you've always dreamt of," Breaker extended his hand to her. "All you have to do is take a single step and trust me,"
Rushina looked at him, the way his grin widened as he spoke.
This was too good to be true, and she knew it.
"What do you want in return? I mean, don't have much but…" asked Rushina.
Breaker chuckled lightly at her question.
"This is a world broken by rules set by those above to ensure those below remain shackled by chain of their own design," he spoke as he spun the chair like a child around with his hands on the back of his neck.
Rushina just listened, looked at Breaker, and wondered if he was insane and what exactly was his angle at.
Breaker then stopped to face. Looking at her with a serious expression on his face.
"What I want is break the chain that has been holding us back," Breaker looked at her with eyes so shaped that Rushina could have sworn they were striking her inside like a dagger to the soul.
"I…how do I fit in to all of this?" She grabbed onto her wrist where her limiter lay, nervously rubbing it as she continued, "I'm just a gear one. A…"
"Slugha" Breaker finished her sentence.
Her eyes fell as she spoke with a low voice, "Yeah."
Breaker, seeing the expression on her face, just smiled before saying, "You don't fit in."
Rushina's eyes sank down deeper upon hearing his words.
"You are small, insignificant. Barely a whisk in the wind, so don't bother thinking about the why," said Breaker as he brought out his hand once more. "All you should be satisfied with is that I can. And if you accept my offer, you will know true freedom Rushina,"
Rushina just looked at him, at his outstretched hand, wondering if he knew what he was offering, what this would mean for someone like her.
Limiter hacker, people who claimed to be able to hack and remove the restriction set by their limiters. It was an illegal act on Kinerik, and if anyone was caught with a hacked limiter, the consequence would be dire.
Rushina knew the risks and consequences that came with accepting would attract but…
"Slugha"
"You damn slugha"
"Goddamn, you really are slow Slugha"
She gritted her teeth and bit her lip.
After living with this for so long. Tired, hungry, slow, and alone for so long some long, she meets some random crazy guy promising he can fix everything.
She looked at her limiter.
A tired, heavy breath leaving her lip.
Maybe…
A soft chuckle then left her lips.
…it was worth the risk.
She raised her head.
"I'm in," she spoke with a firm voice.
Breaker just chuckled upon hearing her words.
"Splendid," he swiftly grabbed hold of her where her limiter was. "Let's get down to business,"
