Chapter 125 - Temple

The memories Kenmyo had previously learned from the fallen Inquisitor Tossak-Rome concerned this 'nail' buried within the Imperial Cult, corrupted by the Slaanesh Chaos forces.

The only distinguishing feature, besides being beyond one's grasp—no, it should be said, was her identity as a Battle Sister, or perhaps a high-ranking woman within the Kerigran Imperial Cult.

However, Kenmyo had already screened all high-ranking Battle Sisters who might be problematic; the will of those Daughters of the Emperor was incredibly firm, with no trace of betraying the Imperium.

Elena had also helped Kenmyo check this, because followers corrupted by Slaanesh demons, to express their loyalty to the Lord of Pleasure, would often carve emblems symbolizing 'pleasure and depravity' onto their bodies.

But there was nothing of the sort anywhere; instead, there were only several terrifying and hideous scars, no less impressive than those of an Astartes Monks.

He could give face to his good partners in the Inquisition, the Battle Sisters, but the Imperial Cult had too many restrictions; it was time to let loose.

Kenmyo was not so friendly towards the high-ranking officials of the Imperial Cult; basically, all women found on the purge list were executed.

It now seemed that perhaps Kenmyo was too concerned with the living, and his thinking had fallen into a trap; in fact, if he had given a little attention to the dead, it might have been better.

If Kenmyo couldn't find such a Battle Sister in Kerigran, then was it possible that the sister he was looking for had already 'died,' which would explain why he came up empty-handed several times?

"Tsk tsk tsk, truly ostentatious."

Standing outside the main entrance of the Saint Sophia Cathedral, Kenmyo looked up at the towering spires that pierced the sky; the surface of the walls was made of expensive and sturdy stone imported from other star systems.

If merely looking at the exterior couldn't convey how much wealth this building consumed, then its interior was where its extravagance truly shone.

Through checking the memories of the original owner, Horst-Eisenholm, Kenmyo learned about these Imperial Cult church buildings; while without exception they were all luxurious and money-burning endeavors, they likely paled in comparison to this cathedral.

As soon as Kenmyo entered the main gate, the floor transformed into flawless marble tiles, whiter than milk; the massive dome, several hundred meters in diameter, was covered with exquisite frescoes, and there were colorful stained-glass windows. Kenmyo had just passed through a corridor where the stained-glass window, a full twenty meters high, depicted the Emperor himself seated on his throne.

Kenmyo's first reaction was, "This stuff is incredibly valuable."

Sure enough, smaller places paid more attention to these superficial 'face projects.'

"I hope the Slaanesh sister I'm looking for will be here."

"Inquisitor, please wait for me!"

Frey, rushing from behind, finally caught up to Kenmyo's side again. She didn't know if she was scared or not.

"I can't quite keep up with you."

Kenmyo simply said indifferently,

"Let's go, take me to the Saints' Rest."

Upon hearing the commotion, passing soldiers and Battle Sisters wanted to see what had happened.

Because loud noises were not permitted inside the sacred cathedral.

Frey feared that those people would clash with the Inquisitor, and the Imperial Cult would be at a disadvantage, so she didn't dare to delay and quickly led the way.

The Saints' Rest, located in the central area of the Saint Sophia Cathedral, was the true resting place of Living Saints who had made outstanding contributions to the Imperium. It was sealed and heavily guarded year-round.

Only when preparations began for the Imperial Cult's blessing ceremony for these Imperial heroes' souls would the magnificent sarcophagus be unsealed from its underground burial and brought into this room for display.

Led by his attendant Frey, Kenmyo arrived in the incredibly sacred golden Grand Sanctuary Hall.

Dozens of gleaming marble pillars, three meters thick and hundreds of meters high, stood on either side of the hall, supporting the gigantic dome above, weighing hundreds of tons.

Angel statues carved from white jade, some holding longswords and shields, others holding the rulers symbolizing fairness and justice in the Imperium, circled above the marble pillars—these sculptures looked incredibly lifelike.

The powerfully dynamic winged angels seemed to leap from the pillars, as if to soar into the towering starry dome fresco above, returning to the side of the infinitely benevolent God-Emperor.

Kenmyo recognized this as the'Soul's Return to the Throne,' a replica displayed at the headquarters of the Imperial Cult's Ecclesiarchy.

The air was filled with the scent of sacred wood, but there was also another smell—a strong scent of blood.

It came from the vast central area of the square, which was already covered with hundreds of red sarcophagi, and people were continuously bringing more to be placed down.

Kenmyo walked to a sarcophagus; inside was a body, the torso of an Imperial Cult priest, with a very peaceful expression, but it was only half a body, the lower half was missing.

Frey whispered,

"This is Priest Charles Anthony; he sacrificed himself by rushing into a building under attack by Eldar fighters to save civilians."

Basically, everyone here was someone who, at a crucial moment, could give up their life for the Imperium.

Kenmyo offered no comment on this.

However, what truly captured Kenmyo's attention was the high altar in the center of the plaza, where a sister knelt, her silver ponytail touching the ground, solemnly praying before the Emperor's statue.

Kenmyo gestured to Frey with his eyes.

"That is Arch-Sister Brino Harwell. She is not a Battle Sister; her status is somewhat special."

"She might be chosen by our Imperial Cult as the next Living Saint."

Kenmyo understood Frey's meaning; the Imperial Cult's sects were complex, sometimes even engaging in reincarnation practices, so she was likely deemed a reincarnated manifestation of a savior saint.

"Hmm? I seem to have missed her."

Suddenly, the main door closed. Kenmyo turned to look, instinctively wanting to draw his gun.

"Shh, Inquisitor."

Frey quietly reminded him,

"We've arrived just in time; the ceremony is probably about to begin."
