Chapter 230 - Chapter 28 (Part 7)

There was no place for discussion on that matter.

There couldn't be.

Anyone with a sliver of battle experience could tell at a glance how marvelous the bluish-white sword was.

Even Oliver Berdon, who experienced the might of the second princess of Nordenthele's Gale Karabela, which was ranked as the kingdom's treasure, first-hand, knew that this one was far more special.

It was worth more than a hundred… no, more than a thousand fools the likes of Simon!

It had to be his. Period.

In fact, the bluish-white sword held such power that if wielded by someone like Simon, it would easily allow them to defeat Oliver once they clashed.

In the first place, that sword's power was what made Oliver prepare so much just to take on the commoner student who was less skilled than it even before the deofolization.

It might have looked like the pact with a deofol granted Oliver seemingly monstrous reflexes, while in fact it changed its body to one that dodges all projectiles and deflects all incoming close-ranged attacks.

It also strengthened that body far beyond human limit, the one granting Oliver Berdon such power was a former Arch Deofol, so the autonomous response was off the charts.

Only that it ended up as a double-edged sword when faced with such a masterpiece as Calaldbolg's shadow. Since it worked regardless of Oliver Berdon's will, Oliver's body would actually seek contact with the blade… and lose miserably.

For Olvier's sake, a weapon such as Caladbolg's shadow couldn't get into the hands of anyone but him!

"Hmph. Fine."

Simon ended up scoffing and turning around, walking towards the main building armed with the scabbard.

"..."

Despite the surge of relief, Oliver Berdon did not show any and walked to the lone bluish-white weapon with a greedy look in its completely black eyes.

"Ahhh~"

The moment it picked it up, a gasp of awe escaped its mouth regardless of its will.

That sword…!

It felt like the pinnacle of weapons made for the swordsmanship magic system~!

Its mana conductivity was out of this world, basically sucking in the user's mana like a violent vortex!

It was such an insanely good weapon that it wouldn't be wrong to say it didn't stir up the greed of swordsmanship users but rather their lust!

The pleasant cool sipping into the flesh as it was held could only be an unexpected additional perk too~

"Polaris…!"

"NRAAAAAO!"

"...?"

Suddenly, the curled up commoner student whimpered, and his contracted fae responded from somewhere above, causing Oliver Berdon to take its eyes off of the newly acquired weapon.

Not in panic or worry, but rather a slight surprise. Curiosity even.

While the golden bear cub's spells did mess its clothes up a little, they were nothing that its deofolized body couldn't handle.

"!!!"

Alas, Oliver Berdon wasn't the target in the first place! The next moment, five beams of light ruptured the air as they originated from the top of the wall surrounding the premises of the Royal Academy, and in no time reached Simon, who stopped and was looking over its shoulder…

…and got dismembered by the light attribute spells targeting its main joints and neck without being able to react…!

"Pfft! Oh no, you got my annoying lackey! Whatever shall I do!? Idiot. This changes nothing! None of your attacks can reach me now!"

Instead of showing even a sliver of compassion for its fallen comrade, Oliver Berdon snorted and cried out mockingly before scoffing and reaching out its hand towards the curled up commoner student, pointing the tip of the bluish white sword at him while completely ignoring the gold bear cub perched on the wall.

"~!"

"?"

But as the two of them made eye contact, Oliver Berdon furrowed his brows at the sight of the ferocious grin twisting the commoner student's face.

Then…

*SQUELCH*

Before the deofolized human realized what was happening, its bones, that accumulated a copious amount of ice mana, burst apart into dozens of ice crystals, rupturing the flesh and skin, ripping its torso apart!

"???"

*thump*

With its brain unable to comprehend what happened, what's left of Oliver Berdon dropped to its knees, and its head dropped…

"!!!"

That's when it witnessed that most of its torso was straight up gone, and ice growths were digging into whatever was left of the rest, dyed black from the black liquid its blood had become.

In fact, that ice was the only reason its torso was kept upright, as most of the spine had been blown apart!

Those few last moments of consciousness were granted to Oliver Berdon solely because of the deofolization.

Because Oliver Berdon, the deofolized human, was, in fact, already dead at that point.

"Ghhh…!"

"...?"

The wheeze of pain made it attempt to look up at the commoner student.

In Oliver's eyes, Justin had sat up only to then wrap his arms around his torso and wince.

In reality, Blanid put her hands between her arm and torso, using them as a clamp to force her broken fingers back into place… or at least a relatively proper spot, and grimaced when the shattered bones scraped against her flesh.

She then forced herself to stand up, limping heavily because of the cracked bone, but with a lunatic level of determination, she got to Caladbogl's shadow that shot out of Oliver's hand as it blew it off, and picked it up, staining the leather strips she wrapped around its handle with her blood.

Then she limped over to Oliver Berdon's remains, glaring at them with disgust.

"What was the point of all of this…?"

The disguised girl asked coldly.

"..."

"WHAT WAS THE POINT!?"

Oliver Berdon's eyes slowly looked up right in time to witness Blanid's face stained with red as she roared.

"...you should already know…"

"???"

Against all odds, the fallen deofolized human answered, in a voice barely louder than a whisper, baffling the disguised girl.

"...I… I was suposed to be… the best… my talent… my hard work… it was all… destroyed by… you and that trash..."

The deofolized human muttered under the breath that it could no longer take. It speaking in the first place was, basically, a miracle!

"...why…? Why couldn't the two of you… stay as pathetic weaklings…? I was supposed… to be the hero… I was…! If I… didn't tear you down… how could I live with myself…?!"

"!!!"

The traitor to humanity wheezed and sobbed, shaking Blanid to the core.

"You…! Aren't you supposed to be a noble!? Where's your honor!? Where's your sense of du…!"

She couldn't hold back and growled in anger, pointing Caladbolg's shadow right at the traitor's face and…!

*stab*

"!!!"

Whether it was an accident or the proximity of the weapon triggered the deofolized human body's response, what remained of the former Oliver Berdon leaned forward and impaled itself on the blade right through its face, leaving the disguised girl stunned and at a loss for words.

"That…! That cowardly traitor…!"

Blanid backed off, pulling the sword out of the dead deofolized human's face, and cussed before biting her lips.

She then looked away, concentrating for a bit, and a whirl of white energy enveloped Caladbolg's shadow's blade, cleaning off the black blood, allowing her to sheath it.
