Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Zero-Point Challenge and the Power Surge

The red dust of the desert was swirling around me like a big storm. The Crimson Fang was standing ten meters away from me. The Crimson Fang is a fast monster that is ranked A. It is not as big as the Abyssal Croc. The Crimson Fang is very good at moving quickly. The Crimson Fang is famous, for being so agile.

The warning from the System was a red color and it kept flashing on and, on right in front of my eyes:

[ Status: 2nd Tier Class Promotion Mission Active ]

[ Condition: The Untouchable Hunter (Zero Damage Challenge) ]

If the enemy hits the host once the whole mission will be over and we will lose all 120,000 experience points that we have stored. This means all that hard work will be gone for good.

"One little scratch and everything I worked hard for is gone " I said quietly holding the hilt of my sword really tightly.

The wolf jumped at me fast. It was so quick that all I saw was a blur. I quickly used my move, Shadow Step. My body turned into a mist and I leaned to the side just in time. The wolfs claws barely missed my chest they were that close. Whoosh! The wind from the wolfs swipe hit my face. It stung, but I did not get hurt. The damage counter still said zero. I was lucky the wolf missed me with its claws. The wolf was really strong. I had to be careful, with my next move using Shadow Step and all to avoid the wolfs attacks.

I turned around fast and hit back at the same time. I spun on my heel. Then I unleashed a counter-attack. This was my way of fighting back. I was spinning on my heel. I was unleashing a counter-attack, against my opponent.

"Spectral Slash!"

A blade of energy cut through the wolf. The wolf let out a howl and started attacking everywhere. I used Tactical Eye to figure out where the wolf was going to strike. I kept my mind very calm. If I made one mistake I would never get to Level 26.

I finally got the hang of it. The monster had a rhythm. I figured it out. I stepped into its guard. I drove my blade straight through the monsters throat. The monster turned into ash. The portal in the desert disappeared. Now the desert portal is gone and I am standing in my dorm room again. The monster is gone and I am back, in my dorm room.

[ Congratulations! Promotion Mission Success! ]

[ Unlocking 120,000 Stored XP... ]

The cold voice of the System was really loud, in the room:

The host has some news about getting experience points. So when you beat that tough A-Rank Abyssal Croc at level 10 the big difference in levels gave you a special bonus called the Great Overkill Bonus. This bonus is what gave you that amount of 120,000 experience points. The experience points from the A-Rank Abyssal Croc are really helpful. The Great Overkill Bonus, from the A-Rank Abyssal Croc is a deal.

Now that you have gone past Level 20 beating the A-Rank Crimson Fang does not give you much of a reward as it used to. You only get experience points for 2 levels. Crimson Fang is an A-Rank monster. As your level gets higher you will get experience points from fighting A-Rank monsters, like Crimson Fang.

[ Level Update Process Initiating... ]

Previous Stored XP: 120,000 (Enough to reach Level 26)

New Mission XP: +2 Levels (Mission Reward)

Final Result: Level 20 —> Level 28

Your class has been upgraded to Spectral Blade. This is now at the D-Rank Phase. You were successful, with the promotion. Your new class is Spectral Blade.

Something weird just happened to me. I had this burst of energy inside my body. The mana was moving through my veins really fast. I thought I was going to explode.. Then it stopped. This all happened in like a seconds. Now my muscles feel super strong like they are made of metal or something. And my senses are really sharp I can. Hear everything really clearly. The mana is still there it is like my body is filled with this energy. It is making me feel strong. My senses are sharper I can feel everything the mana is still moving through my body.

Level 28. I was now significantly stronger than any student at the Academy.

The morning a really big crowd of people showed up at the Academy training grounds, for the Ranking Rehabilitation Test.

I made some changes, to my Power Mask ability. I told the system to hide my power and show my level to others as Level 12. This way people will think I am strong enough to respect me.. I do not want the Hunter Association to know how strong I really am. They might bother me a lot if they find out I am a -Rank anomaly. I just want to be left alone for now.

Ryan and his friends were standing near the testing crystal. When he saw me he started laughing. "Look it is our Level 3 hero, Jin-woo. What is the plan Jin-woo? Are you trying to get to Level 4 this time. Are you just here to give up Jin-woo?"

I gave him a look and walked right past him without saying a thing. When I put my hand on the crystal it started shining bright all of a sudden. The screen lit up. Said: [ Level 12 ].

Silence fell over the field. Ryans jaw dropped. He said "What is going on here? The player went from Level 3 to Level 12 in one week. The player did this in a short time. How did the player manage to do that? It just does not seem possible for the player to move from Level 3 to Level 12 fast.

Soo-yun was standing there with a public level of 15. She looked at me with a smile but it was a real one. She really seemed happy to see me doing better. The instructors talked to each other quietly. Then they finally updated my rank in the records.

"Be quiet!" the lead instructor yelled. Jin-woos progress is really something. Levels do not mean anything if you do not have experience. Get ready everyone. This month we will have the Rehabilitation Test, inside a D-Rank Dungeon. That is where we will see what you are really capable of. The lead instructor was talking about the Rehabilitation Test and the D-Rank Dungeon. How that is where the students will be tested. Jin-woo and the others will have to do their best in the D-Rank Dungeon to show their worth.

Fear rippled through the crowd. D-Rank dungeons were notorious for being lethal to inexperienced students. I stood there, unfazed. Level 12? I thought. They have no idea that once we step inside, they're going to witness the power of a Level 28 Spectral Blade.
