Chapter 1 - Nestle and Davius

"Maybe.. I am just a stranger to myself."

A black haired boy with strange green eyes was squatting in front of a five-year-old boy.

"You're a student of Ivory City University? Shouldn't you be enjoying it? That's what my father taught me, if I somehow managed to enroll there then my life would be all fun."

Nestle laughed at the child's words especially at his 'All fun'. And that's what I call Manipulating your own children..

"Kiddo, you did well."

"Don't call me kiddo, my name is 'Dante'."

"Okay, so Dante, you know how many lives have you saved after informing the village about the murderous slaves?"

"Maybe.. A hundred thousand."

"Uh.. N-"

Suddenly, someone grabbed Nestle and replaced his position and then said, "Of course Dante more than that!"

Nestle looked at the man and saw a silver haired Sanguine, wearing neat clothes. His name was Gabriel, the president of the student council and the most promising youth of the nation.

The kid sighed and walked away, "Today's adults are more childish than kids."

Nestle laughed at the stupidity that Gabriel had done and said, "What were you thinking? You idiot!?"

"Absolutely nothing." Said Gabriel while revealing his red eyes which appeared even more majestic.

This was an average day in Ivory City.

Today's morning was especially nice, the great city bathed in the golden sunlight.

The dorm rooms in Ivory City University were very spacious.

The space was enough for three-four people to live comfortably although, only one lives it.

Nestle was a student of sixth-year and was about to graduate as an Imperial Scholar this month.

Everything seemed to be normal until it wasn't.

Nestle used to suffer from insomnia on a regular basis, that's what most people used to think but the reality was different.

He never wanted to sleep.

Nestle was sitting in the huge cafeteria of the university. He took a sip of the coffee and muttered, "Whatever it takes huh?"

He closed his eyes and saw a clock.

It's still not the time to wake up..

He opened his eyes and found himself in the cafeteria of the bright academy.

He was living a double life.

Whenever he sleeps he enters a bizarre world.

Where's that world? Are these his dreams or does he actually keep on living a double life?

Since, Nestle was born those dreams haunted him.

He was afraid to tell psychiatrists about this because he thought that they would consider him mad.

But today he'll visit a doctor.

He already hadn't slept from the previous four days, so he should have slept, but he couldn't.

"So, what's the problem?" Asked the doctor as he fixed his glasses and stared at his patient.

"Um.. I cannot sleep."

"Insomnia, you want to say right?"

"No, doctor, I cannot bring myself to sleep. Whenever I sleep I get these insane nightmares that drive me crazy and I ask.. Why am I the only one who suffers through them? Am I even real? Are you real?"

Suddenly he grabbed the doctor and looked at him in the eyes and then he asked:

"Are you real? Am I fake?"

The butler backed away as he faced young master Davius who was asking weird questions.

"What? I.. fell asleep in the hospital.. Fuck!?"

"Young master, what kind of rubbish are you speaking about? Of course you are real, I am also real. Lord! Maybe, the demon has cursed you, I should tell the household about this."

"No! Why?"

This household isn't normal, not anymore after they realise that..

"Young master, are you sure the demon hasn't formed a pact with you? You know they call you the unwinged angel after all, I could have been more happy if I heard that you are the demon's heir, because

You are."

Davius sighed and stared at the butler. "Is it the time for my training?"

"No, after-"

"I am going to the Battlefield of Chaos."

In the battlefield Davius did some basic warmups but the battlefield wasn't the place to do warm-up, it was a place to do something even more vile— Murder.

Everything that gives assassins money is assassination and everything that gives them pleasure is murder.

Because murder is the only thing they find pleasure in.

Growing up in a family of assassins Davius never saw murder as a taboo instead it was a thing that gave him happiness.

Unhealthy happiness.

However, Nestle knew happiness wasn't good, desires could destroy you.

Does it matter for Davius Sonata? No! Is Davius Sonata filled with some foolish and non sensical desires? Yes, of course.

If you can have endless desires then you'll have endless desires, if given the right to kill them you'll kill, you'll kill endlessly.

If you have been given the right to exploit then you'll exploit.

Veil the phenomenon that exists to balance. Humans were given the right to thrive, they thrived endlessly without looking at the cosmic tax.

Now that they don't have that right, they still thrive, truly some stubborn species of organisms.

And, when Nestle sleeps and wakes up Davius Sonata he doesn't have to worry about his desires and wishes.

This place wasn't a hell on a greater scale, but that place is.

However, that place is.

But why? That's why Nestle believes that he doesn't exist.

Why does this phenomenon keep occurring?

And the greatest question.

Why only him? Why not others? Shouldn't they suffer?

There's was a popular saying in Davius' world:

If you cannot be the chosen one, then be the one to choose.

Davius struck the air with such a massive speed that it produced a sound like thunder.

Davius wiped his sweat and looked at the butler. "Bring the human dummies."
