Chapter 3 - A Demon? or a Celestial?

Dean stood in fear, his whole body was still shrouded in the infernal glow of his demonic energy. He tried to wrap his head around the possibility of a demon absorbing a celestial energy, but it just didn't sit right with him.

A celestial energy was supposed to oppose a demonic entity in every way, harming them if they came in contact with it. But all Dean felt was a raging burning sensation that spread throughout his body when he stopped the constant healing in his body.

He felt different, he could feel something foreign circulating around his body. The presumed celestial energy that lurked inside his being was constantly eating away at his insides, threatening to consume him whole. The only factor that stopped his body from tearing apart was the healing that Dean activated on himself.

But even still, Dean felt utterly confused about the whole situation. The amount of energy that engulfed him was massive and raging. His body was able to counteract the effects of only a handful of celestial energy due to his weak demonic stage.

If all the energy around him was gone, and a fraction of it was currently in his system, then where was the rest of the celestial energy?

This question puzzled Dean's mind, but no matter how hard he tried to understand it, he couldn't.

He looked around his surroundings, the entire area seemed unfamiliar.

"I.. I have to find a way… to get back home," Dean thought to himself.

Fortunately for him, he was walking in a sandy layered ground. He studied the soil until he finally found his footsteps that traced far back.

Dean retraced his footsteps until he found a familiar place. He navigated his way through the neighborhood, making his way back home.

Upon reaching the entrance of his house, he saw a wooden rectangular box at the door. With a curious look, he picked it up.

On the top of the box, Dean could see a black shield that had two flaming wings. The wings appeared to give off a crimson glow. Dean recognized this sigil. It was the sigil that the institution of demonic arts used.

Already having a feeling of the contents of the box, he picked it up, opening the seal. He saw a letter written in slanted words. This only confirmed Dean's suspicion as he read.

"Good evening, Mr Dean Walts. This letter is to inform you that you are to commence training at the institution of demonic arts, effective immediately. Good luck."

Dean stared at the letter with an annoyed tone, "really? That's it? They don't get to give me any words of encouragement? It's like they already know that I'm someone of no importance."

Dean shoved the letter into his pocket, heading inside his home. He went up to his bedroom quickly, shutting the door behind him.

"Alright, let's try to understand what's going on with me,"

Dean sat on his bed, his legs crossed. He controlled his breathing, taking slow and steady breaths. Dean proceeded to close his eyes, he could feel his conscious mind slipping away, the background noise coming from neighboring homes fading away, and everything became silent.

Dean focused on the energy within him. His body was still covered in the demonic glow. No matter what he tried to do, the pain wouldn't just go away permanently.

After a while of deep concentration, Dean's view changed. His eyelids were still shut, but he had a perfect view of his body. He stared down at his chest, and he could see a deep red ball of light hovering about right beside his heart.

Every demon had a core within them. The core contained an internal demonic energy. This energy determined how powerful a demon was, determining their demonic ranking. At different stages of a demon's life, their core expands, being capable of housing more internal energy, making them stronger, and increasing their demonic rank.

Dean had a birth defect when growing up, which was the reason as to why he wasn't able to progress no matter how hard he tried.

The amount of internal demonic energy that resided in his internal core was incomplete.

About seventy percent of the whole core was empty, leaving the core mostly plain, and void. This was the reason as to why Dean couldn't get stronger. Without a complete internal core, there was no way a demon could harness their full potential.

Dean focused deeply on his demonic core, he could see the pulsating glow around it, the crimson hue that it emitted. Dean dived deeper, looking beyond the walls of his core.

He stared deeply at it, expecting to see a field of energy that was mostly empty, but what he saw almost made his body jolt.

Deep inside his core, Dean could clearly see red particles of energy moving about freely. But something about the movement of his internal energy seemed unusual.

The red particles of energy were all stacked together towards one end of the core, almost like there was an invisible force acting on it, stopping it from roaming to the other sections of the core. The energies glowed with power, vibrating rapidly, but they didn't seem to leave a certain section of his core.

"This is certainly strange. But what is the cause of this anomaly?" Dean thought amidst his observation.

Dean proceeded to focus on other sections of his core. His gaze was met with a hollow, dark, and void space… until he noticed something that he didn't register earlier on.

On the opposite end of the core, directly facing the red particles of Dean's internal energy was a glow. But that wasn't what made Dean's nerves spike up in shock.

The glow emitted a white hue.

The white beam of energy stood at the opposite end of the core, also stacked together like an outer force was repelling it from travelling directly towards the center of the core.

Dean watched as the white glow raged brightly in his core. The glow seemed to be made out of condensed particles, and it was clearly brighter than the red demonic energy that stood on the far end.

Dean also noticed that the white glow seemed to cover a large fraction of the empty space that was in his core, seemingly completing the gap. He watched as the two energies hovered, clearly repelling each other like the similar sides of a magnet.

Dean stared at his core in horror as he had already managed to understand what was going on. He now knew where the raging energy went, and why he felt a foreign sensation deep inside his being.

"Could it be…"

"That the celestial energy went directly towards the emptiness of my core, filling up the void instead of killing me?" Dean thought with a horrid expression, "If I now possess a celestial energy in my core, then what does that make me?"

A demon, or a celestial?
