Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: The CEO's Assistant Is The Real CEO

Of course, Ellen hadn't forgotten her friend, who had calmed her mind last night. She'd had the pleasure of interacting with Penelope for quite some time, and now it was time to cook a variety of dinner dishes as a token of her gratitude.

Now all the dinner dishes were ready to be served on the dining table, just waiting for her best friend to enter the residence. While waiting, she kept staring at her phone screen, hoping for good news via email. Although she initially liked Fantasia Star Studio and was still interested in her, she was afraid the CEO would suddenly change his mind. She began to fear that the email would be bad news about her being openly rejected because the scandal was still heating up on social media.

At the same time, she heard someone entering the access code to the residence. She immediately got up from the sofa and walked quickly to the main door to greet her neighbor. She flashed a cheerful smile as she looked at her neighbor, who, as usual, was dressed casually.

"You finally came, Flint!"

Flint's reaction was an awkward smile, his right hand tucked into his pocket. "I thought you'd completely forgotten about me because you must be so excited about taking the test today."

Her eyes widened. "How do you know how I feel today?"

Flint slowly walked over to his beloved friend. "Of course I would know, because you love that game so much. Surely you're also excited to join your dream company."

"Actually, I want to tell you more."

"Before that, can you let me eat first?" He rubbed his stomach slowly. "Actually, I've been hungry for a while."

Ellen pursed her lips. "Why is eating all you think about?"

"If I don't eat, I won't be able to survive."

Initially, Flint thought his neighbor might only cook two dishes, but the sheer variety of dishes on the dining table left his mouth agape. He became even more enthusiastic, eager to devour all his favorite dishes with gusto. Especially since his beloved friend, who cooked all these dishes, always managed to make his heart flutter.

Meanwhile, Ellen laughed gracefully, watching her friend devour her food as if he hadn't eaten in a month. She took the initiative to move some bowls of side dishes for her friend, who was like a hungry lion.

"Just finish it all. It's like you're seeing food for the first time."

"I'm more likely to just like your cooking."

"Is my cooking really that delicious? My manager doesn't eat so much of my food."

"But your cooking is truly delicious. That's why I called you earlier so you wouldn't forget to cook for me." He placed the small bowl and chopsticks on the table for a moment. "By the way, how was today's test? Judging by the look on your face and the sudden appearance of you cooking various dishes, it must have gone well."

"Of course, today's test went smoothly. You don't need to worry. The CEO's assistant interviewed me personally."

Flint couldn't hold back his laughter again. He'd actually instructed Alfonso to ask all the questions and say things according to his pre-arranged script. If he let it slip now, would his friend be so shocked?

"Did he ask you any weird questions?"

"No. He's actually been very nice to me. In fact, he's been a silent supporter of mine all this time. I've even asked him why they still want to recruit me. But he's still willing to defend me in the midst of this heated scandal."

"Thank goodness that assistant is still nice to you. I hope you're truly accepted into that company."

Ellen rested her chin on her hands. "But I still find it strange. Who exactly is the founder of that company? Why does he keep relying on his assistant to deal with everyone?"

"Maybe the CEO is very busy."

She shook her head slowly. "No. I don't think he's busy. If he were, why would he keep hiding his identity everywhere? In fact, I even assumed for a moment that the CEO's assistant who interviewed me earlier was the real CEO."

Cough…cough…

Flint immediately coughed and choked as he sipped his chamomile tea. He hadn't expected his friend to guess that Alfonso was the CEO of his company. His jaw stiffened from holding back laughter. On the other hand, jealousy began to burn within him because Alfonso had actually won so much today by having a live interview with this sweet woman.

Ellen took the initiative to get some tissues for her friend, who was coughing and choking non-stop. "Flint, you should drink slowly!"

Flint lowered his head and wiped his lips with a tissue. "Actually, I'm coughing, choking on your ridiculous assumption!"

"But doesn't it sound plausible? The CEO's assistant is probably a real CEO."

"On what basis do you confidently dare to conclude that?"

"Because the CEO's assistant acted like he was a real CEO." Her eyes rolled. "I'm an actress, so I understand body language."

Flint laughed awkwardly, looking away. "You're not a perfect actress. I'm disappointed to hear that."

Her forehead furrowed. "What?"

"You recklessly assumed the CEO's assistant was a real CEO. I know you're an actress. But that doesn't mean you're making a guess based on nonsense!"

"So, you don't agree with my assumption?"

"Of course! If a real CEO were to hear what you just said, he would be very disappointed in you!"

Ellen folded her arms. "Why are you acting so defensive of that CEO? Do you even know him personally?"

"No, I mean–"

"You should try watching an office romance drama once in a while. There are so many male leads who are actually CEOs, but they pretend to be the CEO's assistant."

This time, Flint didn't want to play around with his friend for too long. He gave a serious look, crossing his legs haughtily. "What if the CEO disguises himself not as the CEO's assistant, but as an ordinary person?"

ting…

Hearing an incoming email notification on her phone, Ellen quickly reached for it and opened an email from Fantasia Star Studio's human resources department. Reading the good news brought tears to her eyes. She immediately jumped up from her chair.

"Flint, I'm accepted!"

A beaming smile lit up his handsome face. "I knew you'd be accepted, Ellen. Congratulations!"

"I have to thank that CEO for accepting me for who I am." She clutched her phone and stomped her foot excitedly. "I can't wait to go back to work next week."

Meanwhile, Flint paused for a moment, observing his beloved friend's enthusiastic reaction to being hired at his company. He was actually the founder and the creator of the game. He hoped that one day his friend would properly thank him. However, his friend had strangely assumed that Alfonso was the CEO, which left him slightly disappointed. He wanted to tease his friend again for annoying him a little earlier.

"I'm actually happy to hear you'll be working at the company next week. But are you going to thank the CEO's assistant for accepting you?"

Ellen laughed mischievously, covering her mouth with her hand. "Of course, because he's interviewing me."

Just hearing that simple yet disappointing answer made his body start to feel hot. However, he remained calm in the face of his best friend.
