Ava's Pov:
"Leon?"
"Hey, Ava. Why are you awake?"
"I have a mild headache. Can't sleep I guess?"
"Yeah."
"Why didn't you just ask me to sing for you?" I asked, not that I wanted to.
"I didn't think you'd want to. And you're still recovering, I don't want to bother you."
God, why did he have to be so sweet. I was in a life and death situation and all I could think about was how good he was with his words.
"Let me just get some medicine from the pantry and we'll go upstairs."
I turned around and walked away fast before he could say anything. The look on his face told me he noticed the moment I zoned out thinking about him.
"Ready?" I asked after I got the medicine. He nodded.
I moved before him and he followed behind me.
"My room or yours?" he asked.
"Yours."
I had never been in his room before. It wasn't anything I expected. It was warm, and everything was neatly organized. I looked around until he noticed.
"You prefer this to your room?"
"What?" I answered quickly. "No I don't."
He smirked. My heart did that thing again. I low key hated it. I didn't have time to think of him like that.
"What song?" I asked.
"You call the shots."
I rolled my eyes, and went to sit on his bedside table.
He took off his shirt.
"Oh my God!" I quickly covered my eyes. "What the hell are you doing?
"What, you haven't seen biceps before?"
I moved two fingers and peeked at him.
"Ava, it's just my shirt. I can't sleep with it on."
"Oh, well, what about your pants?"
"I can take them off if you want me to."
"Mhm you're playing with your sleep."
"I'm kidding. I'll change in the bathroom."
I watched him close the bathroom door.,Why was he doing this to me? Whatever game he was playing needed to stop. I didn't hate it, but I couldn't take it.
He walked out shortly after with wet hair and only shorts.
"Sorry I took a while, I wanted to shower first."
"Ava? Are you good?"
"Huh? yes, yes I'm good. I need to go to bed soon so can we hurry?"
He smirked again. I was one step closer from yelling 'don't do that.'
He laid down facing the ceiling. He closed his eyes and I started humming the start of Godspeed by Frank Ocean. It was my favorite song.
By the time I got to the chorus, his body was fully relaxed and he was asleep. It was odd how my voice could fix a psychological problem.
I tiptoed out of the room.
I took my medicine and tried to sleep but I couldn't.
Everything hit me like a brick.
I stayed up the entire night, and by morning, I was so sure my eyes were going to fall out of its sockets.
Leon on the other hand was in a good mood. He always was every time he got the opportunity to sleep.
"Good morning" he created from downstairs.
"Morning. Going to the office?"
"Yes, but I'll be back early. We have an event later."
"We? Event?" I walked over to him.
"Yes, an exclusive party hosted by my good friend. I want you to be my plus one."
"Uhm have you forgotten I'm just your personal assistant?"
"Well with all that's going on right now, you might as well be more."
I know exactly what he meant by that. Nothing harmful but still I heard it in a completely different way. This man was turning me into a romantic and I hated it.
"Dont you think that's the exact reason why I should be hidden?" I countered back.
"You do have a point, but I have everything under control so you don't have to worry, okay?"
I nodded.
"I already told Pearl to take you to a boutique. Get a nice dress and everything you'd need."
"Oh okay."
He smiled, picked up his coat and left.
I went to the kitchen to serve myself. I so much loved how food was always available in varieties.
I settled down at the diner table and ate peacefully. Each staff that passed only bowed. It made me uncomfortable but there was nothing I could do.
I called Pearl after I was done and asked her about what Leon said.
"He only told me to accompany you. Marvin will take us there when you're ready."
"Hm, I see. I'll go get ready now."
She bowed.
"Pearl."
"Sorry Miss….Ava."
"It's fine."
I walked to my room and straight into the shower. I played loud music till I was done.
I put my hair in a low ponytail and wore the fanciest jeans I owned. Someone like Leon definitely didn't shop at the mall so I couldn't dress below average.
I got to where the car was parked and saw Pearl and Marvin waiting for me. They didn't say a word.
I got into the car and Marvin sped out of the estate.
It took us about thirty minutes to get to the store. I expected something big and fancy but what I saw was more than that. Walking in felt like walking into heaven. I saw so many things I wanted but Leon asked me to get just one dress and maybe a few jewelry pieces.
"Hello, Miss Ava? Mr Presscot said you'd be coming."
I looked at Pearl. She nodded.
"Yes." I answered.
"Right this way."
I followed behind her.
"Mr Presscot already selected a few dresses but he wasn't really sure of your taste so you can check out others if you'd like."
She took me to the back. It seemed like a private section. She brought a whole rack of beautiful shiny dresses with necklaces to match each one.
There was no way Leon was doing all this for me.
I spent hours trying on every dress, takingpictures, sipped wine. For a second I forgot I was a killers target.
"Have you made your decision?" Pearl asked. She looked at me in awe. She complimented me with a smile in every dress.
"I haven't. What do you think?"
"I really liked the red with the silver necklace."
"Really?"
"Excuse me!" I called the woman that welcomed me in.
"I'm taking the red dress."
"Wonderful decision. Shall I bring out some heel options to go with it?"
"Oh no that's fine. I already saw the one I wanted." I pointed at the silver heel I saw on the counter.
She picked it up and bagged it all for me.
"It's all been paid for. Don't bother looking at the price tags."
"Oh I wasn't going to. Thank you and have a good day." I smiled and walked out.
As I got into the car, I got a message from Leon.
"I'm ten minutes away from home. Are you done?"
"Yes." I texted back.
I got home thirty minutes later to Leon waiting for me at the balcony next to my room.
"Women and their problems." he said
"Whats that supposed to mean?
"I know you're going to make me late."
"Not my fault." I shrugged and went into my room.
I showered again and got dressed.
By the time I was out, Leon was ready as well.
As I walked down the stairs I could see the twinkle in his eyes as he stared at me. I couldn't help but smile. Nothing about my life currently was worth smiling about but I did it anyway.
"You look lovely."
"So do you."
