Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: You Don't Want...

"Lady Tsunade."

Seeing there was no escape, Night Namikaze put on what he thought was his friendliest smile and greeted her.

Tsunade let go of Nawaki, who had once again been beaten black and blue, and waved at Night. The expression on her face was... intriguing.

"Um... Lady Tsunade, Nawaki and I are heading to the front lines tomorrow. It might not be convenient to spar right now," Night replied seriously, trying to dispel her urge to beat him up.

He had calculated that since they were leaving tomorrow, and it was already late afternoon, Tsunade wouldn't still be at the training grounds. That was the only reason he dared to come here to practice his sword skills.

"No problem!" Tsunade patted her chest nonchalantly—causing a distractingly impressive bounce under her casual clothes. "It won't affect your condition tomorrow. I'll go easy on you."

Night was distracted for a second and inexplicably nodded like he was possessed. He quickly tried to salvage the situation: "I came here to practice kenjutsu today."

Tsunade kicked Nawaki, who was lying next to her. Nawaki, knowing the drill, immediately pulled a kunai from his pouch and respectfully offered it to his sister.

"???" Night stared at Nawaki in shock. His eyes screamed betrayal: You traitor! I thought we were comrades!

Nawaki, who had been beaten all morning, could only offer an apologetic look. As the saying goes, Better a dead friend than a dead me. He turned his head away, pretending not to see Night's glare.

But Night underestimated Tsunade's determination. Before he could react, Tsunade kicked him in the butt, sending him rolling across the dirt field.

Seeing there was no way out, Night gritted his teeth and decided to strike first. He drew his new short sword in a reverse grip, exploded with chakra from his feet, and slashed at Tsunade with the speed of wind!

Experts know the moment they make a move. Even though Tsunade was only holding a kunai, her casual block sent a shockwave up Night's arm, numbing it and nearly making him drop his sword.

Night realized he couldn't be careless. He activated the secrets of the swordsmanship he got from Kushimaru, and his aura changed instantly.

Tsunade had been slightly dismissive, thinking he was new to swords and worrying she might hurt him.

But as they fought, she grew more surprised. His swordsmanship seemed to be evolving rapidly. Moves that were full of openings initially were becoming refined at a visible speed, like a venomous snake lurking in the shadows, ready to strike.

Night was absorbing combat experience like a sponge. Unlike ninjutsu, kenjutsu wasn't just about hand seals; it was about timing and control.

He slashed at Tsunade from a tricky angle. Because her kunai was too short to block effectively, she was forced to retreat, losing her relaxed demeanor.

Tsunade got serious. She wasn't an expert in kenjutsu, just stronger than the average ninja.

She switched from defense to offense instantly. The power behind her kunai strikes multiplied as she slashed fiercely at Night.

Night blocked with his sword in a reverse grip, looking for an opening to counter.

CRACK!

After multiple collisions, the kunai in Tsunade's hand snapped! A smirk of "gotcha" appeared on her face.

The arm holding the broken kunai retracted sharply, creating an opening. In that split second, her free hand punched straight for the opening in Night's defense at his waist.

Night couldn't dodge. The punch landed solidly on his side. He felt his ribs crack instantly, and the flesh swelled up, burning with pain.

Tsunade didn't let up. She followed with an uppercut. Night endured the pain and slashed at her. Tsunade didn't tank it; she pulled back her fist.

At the same time, she launched her signature "Heavenly Foot of Pain" kick. If that landed, Night estimated he would be isekai'd again on the spot.

He scrambled backward, clutching his waist and sucking in cold air, waving his hand frantically to surrender.

Tsunade realized her punch had been a bit heavy. Based on her experience, he definitely had broken ribs. She stopped.

Night noticed that even his brand-new sword, bought just this morning, had a chipped and rolled edge from clashing with Tsunade's "Monstrous Strength." It was ruined.

He smiled bitterly at his state, unsure if he could recover by tomorrow.

But then, Nawaki came running over enthusiastically. He stood next to Night like a seasoned veteran and lifted his shirt.

Tsunade walked over slowly. Her hands glowed with green chakra. Unlike the violent energy of the Eight Gates, this chakra was gentle as spring water.

"Good lord. Punch first, iodine later?"

Night finally understood why Tsunade was so sure it wouldn't affect their mission tomorrow. She was the best medic in the world. Seeing Nawaki's practiced movements, it was clear he had been beaten—and healed—many times this morning.

Under the medical ninjutsu, Nawaki was soon jumping around energetically, his bruised face completely restored.

Tsunade shooed Nawaki away and looked at Night, signaling him to lift his shirt.

Copying Nawaki, Night lifted his shirt to expose his waist. Unlike Nawaki's childish frame, Night's body was lean and muscular from his rigorous training.

Tsunade pressed her glowing hands onto the injury. In seconds, the swelling vanished, and the cracked ribs knit together perfectly.

"Good body," Tsunade commented flatly.

Night didn't know how to interpret that, so he just smiled awkwardly.

"Tomorrow on the front lines... please look after Nawaki. He's my only brother."

Tsunade suddenly spoke, her voice filled with genuine worry. Coupled with her slightly disheveled clothes from the fight, revealing glimpses of snowy white skin, the scene was distracting.

Looking at this very different side of Tsunade, a strange voice popped into Night's head:

"Ojou-chan, you don't want anything bad to happen to your little brother on the battlefield, do you? Kehehehe."

Of course, he only dared to think it. If he said it out loud, he might as well defect from Konoha immediately because there would be no safe place for him here.

He nodded and said seriously, "Nawaki is my best friend. Don't worry, Tsunade-nee. I've got his back."

Tsunade gave him a deep look, didn't say more, and nodded after confirming he was fully healed.

Then she walked toward Nawaki, who was stretching and acting lively again.

Soon, Nawaki's screams echoed across the training ground once more.

Night shook his head. Nawaki was truly "blessed." Although Night probably couldn't handle that kind of blessing himself, watching the "winner in life" get beaten up was undeniably satisfying.

Before long, Nawaki was face down in the dirt again.

And Tsunade's gaze turned back to Night.

The hair on his arms stood up. It seemed that to ensure her brother's safety, Tsunade had decided to be a "Devil Instructor" for the entire day.
