Chapter 1 - chapter 1

A small town—by the river, filled with white kash flowers, where the soft afternoon sun melted into the breeze. In that very town lived Arian and Mehrin.

They first met in their college library. Arian used to sit quietly reading books, while Mehrin wrote notes by the window. One day, a sudden storm broke out. The library closed early. Mehrin hadn't brought an umbrella—she stood in the corridor, looking a little worried.

Arian stepped forward and held out his umbrella.

"Come… I'll walk you home. You'll fall sick if you get drenched."

That walk together—rain-soaked roads, splashes of mud, and shy little smiles—was where it all began.

Days passed. Sharing notes, tea in the canteen, exam stress—amid everything, an invisible thread tied them together. Arian wasn't good at grand words, but he cared in small ways—bringing Mehrin's favorite blue pen, her preferred books, little handwritten wishes before exams.

One day Mehrin asked,

"Why are you so quiet?"

Arian smiled,

"Not everything can be said… some things are meant to be felt."

Then came the farewell day of their final year. Everyone was busy celebrating, but their hearts felt heavy. College ending meant separate paths.

That evening they met by the river. Kash flowers swayed, the sky glowed red. After a long silence, Arian said—

"I may not be able to give you a grand life… but I can stay beside you forever. Will you stay with me?"

Mehrin's eyes filled with tears. She smiled softly and replied—

"Love doesn't wait for grand things… it waits for the person. I'm here."

Years passed. Life wasn't easy—job struggles, family pressures, distance—everything came. They argued, they had misunderstandings, but they never let go. No matter what, the nightly "Did you eat?" never stopped.

One rainy day, many years later, they stood again by that same river—this time as husband and wife, their little daughter picking kash flowers nearby.

Mehrin laughed softly,

"Remember? If you hadn't offered that umbrella…"

Arian replied,

"Then the rain would've drenched us… but maybe brought us close anyway."

The river breeze flowed past. Their hands were still clasped together—just like the very first day.

Because love is exactly that—

not grand surprises, but showing up every day;

not big promises, but keeping the smallest ones true.
