Chapter 4 - A Pound of another world

"Possible prey". He says, both Dale and I while we continue to follow Renard who is much further ahead.

'So he believes at some point we might need to hunt bunnies?, are we going to be here for that long?.' I question as I avoid naturally formed obstacles.

'God damn it'

I think while swinging my leg knocking off the sticking thorns, we have now been walking for a good 2-3 minutes, somehow Renard has kept track of the bunny.

'He is pretty amazing!' I think in admiration, full well I would have lost it on first sight.

Not paying attention to us he continues his observation, while we continuing our movement, because of the constant walking I've done since I've woken up my legs have started to tire.

'I must continue'. As I was thinking we seem to have found a plains biome if I were to compare it to a game that's what I would call it, looking, we see flocks of sheep's, strange looking birds and many animals I did not know the names of.

"What a weird beetle". Dale mutters, I look to him to see what he was looking at, on the side of one of the smaller trees a blue beetle the size of an adult rat was slowly crawling upwards.

"Yep, seems to be after the fruit!". I say with no other thought on mind. Not wanting to lose distance between me and Renard I tug on Dales shirt and press on through the unruly forest.

Dale who was distracted reacted in shock at my pull but did not say any words of concern since he knows he was the one at fault.

I continue following until we reached a much bigger and clearly better clearing than where we had found the first berry bush, we might be able to even live here.

"Hmm, this is good!". Renard who had final stopped says, he was eyeing the area, probably looking for anything that'll warrant danger, unlike the previous clearing this one had a similar tree covering to where we had woken up,

Plus it's black berry bush was also twice the size, from what I can see anyway.

"I think we'll move our camp here". He tells us, he walks around the outskirts of the clearing, trying to spot any defects.

"Yes, yes good." He says with his hand on his chin, he had circled the entire area.

He begins to walk towards us.

'I wonder what makes him say this?'

"This place is amazing, we will have a constant source of food thanks to the berries and that bunny from earlier, I know where its den is."

He says with a smirk.

"How will we move the resources, Adam and the kids have made?" I ask him, it's not so easy as to just walk here.

"Don't worry too much, we still have to find a reservoir of some kind, before we begin to worry about that". He walks to me and pats my shoulders, he seems to have a shoulder patting habit.

I nod.

'He is right, I am not so experienced, I should I follow and listen'. I affirm myself.

"Okay, Dale and you will help me cover some of the exposed areas, with them." He says while pointing towards some fallen branches, Dale remains quiet making sure to listen.

"Okay!, how would you like them placed?" I question.

He thinks for a moment.

"Just make sure it's covered, so no small animals can get through, there really isn't any special way". He says while shrugging.

'Hmm, wouldn't we need small animals, for like a food source'. I think.

As if reading my mind he answers my question.

"We don't know much about the creatures around here, best to remain safe than sorry, I agree and follow along with his request, Dale was only waiting.

20 minutes flew by quite quickly, the air was beginning to feel chilly.

The makeshift bushes we made, were now complete, Dale was very enthusiastic while doing this.

"Okay, both of you are done?". While we were doing that Renard had marked the area.

"We'll let's find that water source". He leads us, we head out of the clearance.

I am just following Renard, similar to Dale, both of us useless in this situation, only here for moral support.

We travelled for quite a distance, until we came across a steep hill, Renard had us stop.

Drip*

Splash*

Quack*

"It's a pond!"he tells us in excitement." He peers over the hill, I copy only a canopy of rocks was seen, it must be below it.

'We have to go around right?' I think to myself.

"Let's go around, hmm, from the left". Dale stays silent, I match Renards pace, understanding where we need to go.

Coming down the back I see it.

A aquatic blue pond, riddled with lily pads and lotuses.

Ducks swam, and small fish hovered, it was clearer than any modern bath.

"Wow!, such clean water!". Renard shouts, causing the small flock of ducks to swiftly flee from the pond, scattering into the forest.

"We are extremely lucky!" Renard says, he looks to both of us.

"First we found a great place to sleep, now we find such a well hidden, and protected pond!". His expressions, became less tense and serious, he has become genuinely happy!

"Yes, it's amazing luck, I cannot help but feel excited as well!". I say walking to the pond and touching its blue waters.

Before I could wave my hand dry, the oldman pulled both me and Dale together.

"Okay, I'll be creating some paths, you stay here and observe the animals that come by, you can move about just make sure you are near the pound, I shouldn't be too long!".

He tells us, knowing that this is needed we don't say anything to disagree.

"Okay!" Me and Dale reply, Dale seems nervous, but holds himself together, well I was more worried about any hidden dangers we might not know about.

Renard begins his march.

I snack on some berries I had grabbed off a small bush near by.

'Sour'. I think to myself, but still munch on it, knowing I need energy.

I look to the boy he seems fascinated by the clear waters and the fish swimming within it.

"Any differences between them!" I shout to him, while crouching above a rock.

He looks to me.

"I've only noticed a few different types between them, but they all definitely share a common ancestor, just chose different textures". He tells me.

"Oh nice, I assume they snack on the dirt, since the pond is so clean and all". Agreeing with my take he nods.

Looking at the inner parts of the pond, glowing gems shone all a variety of colour.

'Hmm nah, shit like magic doesn't exist'. I tell myself to the intrusive thoughts coming into my mind.

'Yeah, it doesn't exist, it's definitely the fish!l' shaking my head I focus on the animals around us, they don't seem too afraid of us, I'm sure if this was earth, none of these beasts would be around, gazelle, bunnies, squirrels, sheep, cows even chickens.

"This is so random". I mutter to myself
